How would you as a landowner NOT take pictures of the state of the house? I thought that would be a basic thing to do.
I was thinking the same thing about the deposit. I thought she was dismissing that claim. I guess she seen enough in the pictures.
Think about how smart the average person is, and then realize that about half the population are dumber than that.

How do I know? I’ve watched *a lot* of JJ and she frequently asks them questions regarding their financial information. I’ve been poor or middle class my whole life so it’s all very relatable to me.

Yea normally JJ would not award a plaintiff who cannot provide proof. But I think in this case she did, only because she could smell the attitude on the defendant and probably figured the plaintiff was telling the truth.

She lied about all the occupants of the house. " Her husband" .. and said dogs get in the trash.. etc. If the city taking photos then somethings continues to be wrong. I don't get how people can feel so entitled.

I’m a poor senior living in a housing cooperative. For 28 years, I’ve mowed, raked, weeded, trimmed, shovelled, pick up trash - on the street and around the community mailboxes.
I’m no saint, but I despise filth. I keep my unit spotless on the inside as well. I may be poor, but I don’t have to like it and I certainly don’t desire to give the impression that I’m a bum.

My neighbor's dog gets in our trash sometimes. What we do is...clean it up! My husband doesn't always put the trash in the bin, so who can really blame the dog anyway. Lol.

Exactly! People have no sense of pride anymore. I’ve rented for over 10 years - and I hate when renters fail to take care of the property. Many use the excuse of it not being “theirs” and other people are just lazy. There were 4 teenagers and 2 adults living there… they all could’ve cleaned up a little
When my fiance and I moved in to our house we knew it was going to be a shitshow mess. The tenants before us trashed the outside and the inside of the house, and never cared to replace the wood rot and the decrepit ceiling as well as squatting on the property rent free for four years. They finally got evicted after months of fighting them in court. We have had the house for a little over 6 months now and she's already looking better from the TLC

You can’t run a commercial mechanic shop in a residential area without some type of spot zoning approval or grandfathering. The defendant sounds dense acting like it’s no big deal her husband was doing this.
Yes also insurance wise residential and commercial insurance are completely different and if anything happened on the property due to the commercial business the homeowner AND the tenant would be personally liable.

This frequently happens with certain renters. A nice looking one rents, then the next thing you know, others are living there too, spouses, adult children, grandchildren, etc.
I know being a mechanic is demanding and messy... but I really hope I never live next to one... I think it is so trashy when people have multiple cars parked on their grass in a residential neighborhood...
I'm a mechanic and my places have never even looked a fraction of how bad these do, always had grass and no cars parked in it
thankfully l dont live in an area that restricts what you can do with your property, you can not have broken down cars on it, but you can build a boat, work on or wash your own vehicles, have pets, and kids play houses and paint your house what ever colour suits you, unlike some areas of the city
Especially in a rental, condo, townhouse or subdivision…just an eye sore.
I live in a nice neighborhood and my neighbor has had their brand new jeep suv parked in their front yard for months and it’s driving me insane. Their driveway is huge!

It's fascinating to think about how photographs play such a vital role in evidence today considering we went several millennia without such technology.
Even more fascinating to consider how many people lost everything and had their reputations tarnished because the only evidence a judge had to rely on was the word of another person. Trials were a popularity contest and if the other person was more likable or renowned you lost before the trial even began.

Quick case! To be honest I think something doesn't sound right if the defendant damaged the property then where are all the photos. She only showed the outside and she didn't show any receipts that she paid for certain things to be done and fixed in the house. Judge should have taken her time. Cause 4 minutes is not enough to get all the evidence.
The Plaintiff was suing for unpaid rent and property damage. She proved they didn't pay rent for 2 months, but didn't have the evidence needed for property damage other than outside photos which warrants her as a renter to keep the deposit. Because no additional proof of the inside of the house, JJ wouldn't award more. If the Plaintiff is truthful and there was a lot of indoor damages, she could have gotten more with photo evidence, but she didn't have that. If she was lying about internal damages, she still had the outside photos which warrants her to keep the deposit regardless.
Looks to be no counter-suit based off it not being announced, not even for asking for the deposit back, so the case is therefore finished. IF the defendant had a counter-suit for deposit back for example, you could THEN argue that there needs to be more to this case, but the outside photos are enough evidence against giving back the deposit. Plaintiff would still win, which is probably why the defendant didn't even bother filing one.

At 1:56 it looks like the tenants tore the metal pole off the house--the pole that the gate attaches to is on the ground. That's why the gate is standing open.
There's also trash hanging out of the trailer in the yard, in addition to lumber, car parts, & trash behind the fence...where they parked a vehicle in the grass.
At 1:58 the blue tarp that's strung up, overflowing trash can, discarded bottle on the lawn, & a lawn that's turned into mud with gouges from tires.....none of that is from a dog.
Defendant is a liar. And a grifter. She & her husband are teaching her children to live like that, with no respect for themselves & no respect or pride in their home.

Any decent person who lives in a home, no matter whether it is rented or owned, is going to clean up the trash in their yard when "dogs get into it", or for any other reason it occurs. Because if YOU don't do it, who do you think is?!!! You shouldn't expect your neighbors, landlord, or any one else to do it. YOU live there - YOU take care of it. (But hey, this wasn't a decent person, was it?).
