This is the way all reviews should be formatted. This guy can communicate what he likes and dislikes about the album without being incredibly dense and obscene. People like fantano and other brainrot "critics" wish they could be nearly as effective as this guy. Great job dude fr

We actually don't need a Trench 2 for Clancy. To me, this would be a step back. Clancy is, without a doubt, step forward. To the finale

I took a bit less stock in the "return to trench", assuming they were mostly referring to the story of DEMA and Clancy, so I was very pleased with the album especially after S&I. You make some really good points, it was fun listening! :D

I like how I agree with most of your points even though I disagree in the conclusion to those points. I really loved this album exactly because it switched away from that more intense sound that's all over BF and Trench. Great points made across this take

Paladin Staright, in my view, is Clancy going from Voldsoy to DEMA to fight Nico

I loved this review! I agree with nearly all of your points, and I'm really glad your video showed up on my recs.

I kinda love how the few, the proud and the emotional responded to the only album in the discography where the emotions on SAI were intentionally a facade. For me, I've always been intrigued by how TOP can juxtapose upbeat sounding music with some of the heaviest lyrics in the industry. Ironically, it felt weird when the these beats were accompanied with matching upbeat lyrics, because it felt fake, and it was. Obviously it fits perfectly with the context of the lore surrounding SAI, but best intentions for elevating the overarching concept did not sell the album.
Speaking of intentions, I'm convinced that the single version of The Craving, namely the video for it, depicts the failure of SAI. When you see the finished shotgun shell , you can see a blurry blue dragon in the background to the right of it, and the shell itself is blue (SAI color.) As well, throughout the video, the boys are working on their respective parts of the final presentation in different locations, just like they did for SAI because of the pandemic. Despite all the time and effort put into the shell (SAI) they handed it over to the industry, only to have it unceremoniously shot into the void, missing the target. Intentions don't mean much.

Super profound concept with The Craving, that's wild. Didn't notice that in the video

Great review, nice attention to detail with the endings. I hadn't noticed Routine's one. Personally Trench and SAI are on par for me since lighthearted pop is my main taste in music, but this album may top both of them for me. You and I got very different things out of Oldies Station's lyrics, but thats part of the fun of music.

Thanks a bunch! SAI isn't terrible, I've just tried to go back to it many times and couldn't really get into it. Top tracks on there for me are Redecorate, Mulberry Street, and The Outside.

This is a spot on review. I have been a die hard fan for years and was a bit let down with this album sonically. I had envisioned a heavier and darker album based on the marketing that backed it. Although this is not trench 2.0, I have learned to enjoy the album for what it is and not based on my previous expectations. I am hoping that the Paladin Straight music video ties everything together nicely and gives us the closure we are all yearning for. Until then stream Clancy!! :)

How do you pronounce Vignette incorrectly when they say the word in the song multiple times?
    Enjoyed the video though! :)

You've completely misconstrued Oldies Station though.
It's a song about pushing through difficult times (essentially an anti-suicide anthem).
'You start to feel your eyes adjust
      When darkness rolls on you'
This metaphor is meant to imply that, as you move through life, you will be confronted with difficult times but it is possible to cope with and adapt to the challenges you face.
The bridge section: 'You don't quite mind how long red lights are takin'
      Push on through
Your favorite song was on the oldies station
      Push on through
You have it down, that old fight for survival
      Push on through
You're in the crowd at her first dance recital'
Is another good example of this. The 'red lights' symbolise the obstacles of life, with Joseph suggesting that things which may been sources of frustration have now become things he can cope with better and endure. He continues this imagery of waiting at the red light in his car by commenting that his favourite song was on the 'oldies station'; essentially implying that he (or the listener) are older now, to the point where their music is considered an 'oldie'; what he's doing here is trying to convey how far he (or the listener) have come, how much that he (or the listener) have endured and that it is possible to get through difficult times because he is living proof of that. He recognises the battle that life can sometimes be in the line 'old fight for survival' and finally shoots us into the imagery of us watching a future daughter at her first dance recital (which is blatantly something Joseph himself has experienced with his young daughters). This line is clearly meant to convey WHY we should endure those difficult times, those battles and those obstacles: because at the end of it all, there is something positive to look forward to.
      Hope this helped.

Not a big fan of videos that are over-edited. It's so choppy. Just do 3-4 sentences in one take! Or the whole thing! 100s of cuts make this a hard listen for me. Perhaps others will disagree with me but this is how I feel...

This is all subjective. "I liked this song, I didn't like this song. I liked this album, I didn't like this album." I don't understand album reviews to be honest. I'm confused! I feel like it's all shadow artists who are afraid to write & put out their own music so they review and critique others to fill their time. Do you ever think Tyler Joseph would EVER do an album review of someone else's work? NO WAY! He is too busy CREATING music. Sorry to come off harsh, shouldn't we all be creating art instead of reviewing and critiquing art? I could be wrong

I agree with almost everything here just with the exception that the weakest song of the album is oldies station for me... it's got potential, i just don't think it turned iut as well as it could've. And then The Craving is an alright song, but it doesn't fit the labum, shoukd probably be a single and it's just not my style, but i hear the qualities behind it.

It seems like you're only looking for pop and energy and any song that doesn't have that is bad.
