I made the icing today and am getting it colored and bagged. I did a practice run and it works great!! Tastes great, husband doesn’t usually like royal icing but yours was a hit. I’ll be decorating the cookies tomorrow and can’t wait. Each year I make sugar cookies, two years ago I finally found a cookie recipe we love but the icing/decorating always troubles and disappoints me. Not this year thanks to you and your lovely videos!! I have commented on your videos several times on how beautiful your work is and how incredibly talented I think you are. I have not yet tried to make anything because i dont feel ready. Your videos are encouraging me to take that leap. You have so, so many videos. I would like to ask if you can please tell me which videos to watch first? As a beginner, what videos would you recommend that I start with? What is the reason for the squiggles before laying down the flooding? These are beautiful.
It helps to prevent craters in the icing
Yes! It's to prevent craters which happens in smaller or narrower areas and sometimes when the icing dries, it indents or develops a hole.

I love your videos so much and thanks for the recipes! I make artisan soap and want to pipe on the top so I wanted to learn how to pipe flowers and then I saw the cookie decorating and have watched some shows where they decorate and I’m an avid baker so I want to try your recipes and attempt to decorate cookies first and then cupcakes, cakes and then be ready for soap lol. One question, can you freeze decorated cookies?
Oooh I love watching people make soap too!And funny how the decorating skills transfer over hehe. And yes! You can freeze cookies in an airtight container just make sure not to open the container when taking them out until they are fully defrosted!

I keep telling myself that I want to take a "cookie decorating" class but I have yet to find one since I relocated to a much smaller town in the State of South Dakota. I'm originally from Topeka, KS and I know there were several I could choose from back home. Anyway, I want to try my hand at doing this, thinking that I might be quite good. How do you keep a steady hand when drawing with the icing
I usually hold the bag with my right hand and I have my left finger against the bag to steady my hand. I secure my elbow or forearm against the table as well. Here's a real time version of how I pipe:
