I think she's one of the most underrated female singers. Her voice and control is actually really incredible.
Those reasons you talked about are the very same reasons she is such a wonderful singer. Also, let us not forget an incredible knack for melodic singing, PLUS a warmth and richness of tone that would put "singers" like Jessica or Christina to shame.

What an amazing singer, to have the guts to cover this particular song, to make it her own, and just sing the hell out of it! If you've ever heard the original, you know what I mean--it's a classic, and she just takes it by the neck and owns it. Isn't she the best? Just to wake up one day and say "I am going to record this song for all eternity" and do it like this? I love her so much.

I always liked her style and respected the fact that she didn’t try to be Britney Spears or to be Christina Aguilera but didn’t really mind just being Mandy Moore. And as it turns out, not only could she be a great singer and songwriter, but a wonderful actress as well.
On her first two albums they tried to make her look and sound like Britney so bad, but she found her own style eventually
and ended up being better than both spears and aguilera!

My sister Jaclyn Sauls loved her movie A walk to remember . She loved her voice also. Little, did we sadly find out my lovely twin sister would be diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and lose her battle and pass away on December 3, 2018. This song is so beautiful especially all her songs. Listening to her voice reminds me of how much I miss my sister .

And I love how she diverges her music from all the other female singers of her time (and I also love Britney and Christina). Although she did tried to follow in their style (*wink* In My Pocket) but she didn’t like it. She probably felt it wasn’t her. And lucky for her A Walk to Remember came so she had the luxury to move from that music style and she also transitioned gracefully from music to acting
