RUN (S4E05) w/ KYLE GALLNER! Kid In a Candy Store & Michael vs. The Director #smallville #talkville #season4 #kylegallner - Zábava
When Bart gives Clark the hot babe's phone number and Martha's calls him, notice how Clark sneakily puts the paper in his pocket before he goes to his mom. One of Tom's most underrated comedic moments.
haha smooth
great catch
I agree, I wish they would have mentioned how Clark ditched town and hopped to another country to pick up girls lol. Bart also taught Clark how to enjoy using his powers, so much so that Clark decided to go for a run instead of taking the car. I also wish they mentioned the race at the end a little bit more and how shock Clark's face was when he realized Bart is so much faster than him. Go to any Smallvile site, CZcams channel, etc regarding this episode and when people talk about this episode they also mention Clark's face when he sees Bart just zoom across leaving him in the dust. They also state the Clark showed no hate, no jealousy, etc but was happy to be around someone like him, well not like him, you know what I mean. I wish Tom would have given a little insight on how he played that scene and what was going through his mind.
@@cainabel2009, Maybe that could be a question in a future convention. There are ways to find out :)
@@cainabel2009I agree
The ending of this one is the most memorable moment of Smallville. Clark got to see the world thru Barts eyes and remind him its okay to have fun with your powers. The nod to that with Tom & Schneider and John asking Clark " Alright you wanna use the Truck"? Clark replying "Nah, I kind of wanna stretch my legs" was perfect!
Absolutely. That scene stuck with me for years before I refreshed my memory more recently.
The ending to "Run" is so beautiful...the friendship & joy...brings to mind that knowing that someone like you will be ok, gives you hope for yourself
Seeing Kyle's natural astonished reaction to Clark throwing a dude through the roof would have been perfect for his character. He knows that Clark is fast but seeing that should have blown him away.
Actually that's a really good point. First of all it's hilarious picturing young Kyle on the set like that, but it's actually weird how few characters in the show are like "HOLY CRAP YOU JUST THREW THAT GUY THROUGH A WALL!" Usually it's villains who are just mean and cranky about it, not as much room for fun surprise reactions.
I thought this exact point while watching / listening. A young persons reaction could definitely be that.
I recall the final moment of this episode always stuck with me.
"Why don't you come with me?
"Why don't you stay?"
"Only if you can catch me."
That moment.....that moment.....Bart starts running, Clark playfully runs after. Bart has the lead, he knows it, waves goodbye. Speeds off. Then Clark stops as the music plays. I recall it was such a memorable departure. And it stuck with me.
And it feels like today!!!!
Same
I want a lawyer.
And I want a ponytail. Disappointment abounds.
That was one of the funniest parts of the entire series
lex’s jokes always hit
So happy you guys called Kyle!! This episode is the first step towards the justice league and I really like Flash's introduction!! ❤
Bart isn't The Flash.
It surprises me how little we really got. Justice, Absolute Justice and some spots here and there but I needed more league in my life over the 10 seasons.
@@44excalibur True. But in the Smallverse, he is since he used past Flash names as aliases.
Kyle is the man. glad he wanted to be on
@@GabePuratekuta Only because we as fans were forced to settle for that. Bart Allen isn't the one who got a TV show that ran for nine seasons on the CW. The restrictions imposed on Smallville were ridiculous and detracted from the quality of the storytelling.
I had a friend over to watch this episode who had never seen Smallville before. He didn't say much, except when Clark tells the thug he "shouldn't be here" and throws him through the roof, my friend stood up and said "He just killed that guy! That guy is dead!" I've never forgotten that.
Not necessarily, it depends on how high he threw him. If he travels 10 feet above the roof and he falls down on the roof, that’s only a 10 foot fall, which is harmful but not deadly.
Smallville's Superman killed a lot more people than Zack Snyder's did.
@@spencergsmithcome on man. He threw him thru a sheet metal roof and then dog fell into a camper. Something in there had to stab cut or puncture the man
@@DrDickParkermaybe, but again, not necessarily. For all we know, Clark used his x-ray vision to know there was nothing that would kill him, and knew that a 30ft (or maybe less) fall wouldn’t kill him.
I’m not saying definitely, I’m just saying maybe.
@spencergsmith yeah maybe he is just paralyzed for life or something 😂
Love Tom’s depth and positivity every week 👍
Yeah, Tom is a solid optimist.
*Now that we're finally getting around to the episodes where the Justice League is introduced, please don't forget to highlight Lee Thompson Young in his future episodes 💔 He was an incredible actor and it's such a tragic loss that he's no longer here, he was such a class act!! May he rest in peace!*
I found it interesting how Smallville introduced the Flash into the show. I really liked the concept and enjoyed the scene between Bart and Clark to see who's faster. Thank you guys for having Kyle Gallner on the show and thanks for another episode ❤️
glad folks are diggin it. love
Also some funny facts:
- The Lucifer from Lucifer TV Show is actually from the DC Universe, and his first appearence on a DC comic was actually a Superman comic!
- In the crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, Tom Welling comes back to play Clark Kent, and Tom Ellis to play Lucifer... putting these characters in the same multiverse.
- That made Tom Welling accidentally play 2 characters from the same TV Multiverse (Clark in Smallville, and Cain in Lucifer)
Another extra accidental fun fact:
- Dean Cain (who played Clark Kent) shows in Smallville to play a DC character that is immortal and has lived since the beginning of humanity... just like Tom Welling's character Cain from Lucifer TV Show... that also played Clark Kent... 🤯🤯
Coincidences can be crazy!
love fun facts like this full circle
Though the comic character Dean Cain played was never named, we all know he was Vandal Savage.
@@JPDarkHeart02he actually was named. It was Curtis Knox, same initials as Clark Kent.
As a reference to Smallville, on Legends Of Tomorrow Vandall Savage uses Curtis Knox as a moniker in one episode.
@@romarqable yeah, the name Vandal Savage wasn't spoken in Smallville. Curtis Knox isn't the DC comic character's name.
WOAH no idea
Hell yes, I was really hoping Kyle would be on this episode. Such a great casting! This was the beginning of the Smallville Justice League, and it didn't disappoint.
The childish nature with Impulse portrayed perfectly thanks to Kyle Gallner. Also he brought the innocence but at the same also slowly became mature as the story progressed.
haven't seen your comments in a while
I'll never forget the first time this episode aired. I swore that day that, no matter what it took, I WOULD find a way to give myself super speed. I'm now 35 and slower than ever 😂
This was one of Smallville's best episodes! Kyle nailed his role!
Bro completely nailed the Flash character. Is one of my top 5 episodes.
"Let's put on our plaids and go to the city."
And there sits Rosenbaum...
I really loved this episode. Kyle nailed the young, carefree Flash character. Loved the vibe between Clark and Flash.
This episode and "Transference" during the early Season 4 are my favorite ones.
Tom said that was his favorite episode and that was one of his best work on the show
I'm with you. is the episode that made me fall in love with the song "Pain" by Jimmy Eat World. In the racing game, Midnight Club 3, I would always make sure that song was the first song on at the start of the race.
Me too! I watched those 2 episodes like crazy on dvd when I was young, still remember the song with the fight scene
WHAT?!?!?! Micheal voiced the flash in the JLU cartoon? He was my favorite character in that too. I had no idea. I love Michael so much more now ❤❤❤
The episode where Lex and Flash swap minds was great and had Rosenbaum playing Lex in animated form.
The best, most complete superhero origin story ever told in live-action.
Although he is much younger than I am, I am from West Chester and know people who knew Kyle and they always had nice things to say. Very happy to see someone from my home town doing great things and loved seeing him on Smallville back in the day and all of the various movies since. So happy you guys had him on! Great episode too!
Side note, was great to hear Tom make a comment about Lucifer, great show and I was extremely happy when he was on it.
No doubts one of my favorite episodes of the season, if not my favorite of all. Being a troublesome kid at school from a broken home, growing up watching these kind of episodes would make my whole week up.
one of the best episodes in the entire series and certainly the one with the most iconic segments..... beyond smallville. That segment at the end between Bart and Clark running is just a DC universe treasure for the ages.
We need Metropolis 2024,let it be known it will be the highest rated and rating show. A lot of new people have watched smallville now who missed it so you'll have millions upon millions of viewers. We love you both and let's make Metropolis happen.
The race at the end of this episode is actually a great nod to the DC comic story Flash v. Superman, where they have a race together.😀🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love the fact that this is the start of Smallville's Justice League
This is definitely one of the most memorable episodes to me. I love the race at the end, too. You see Clark struggling to keep up , then bart gives the nod and just speeds off
“….IF you can catch me, I’ll think about it… 😏”!
OMG ! Guys ! Next week episode is one of the greatest episode of Smallville and probably THE best performance from Tom Welling ! Next week is Transferance !!!!!! Do you remember that scene in jail, with the song "Pain", and the slowmo shot of Clark entering the jail ? Omg ,chills !!!
Transferrance is my actual fav episode
Yeah, My Favorite Too
Of, Clark And, Lionel
In, Episode 72
Smallville Season 4
Transferrance
Lionel Was Originally Using The Kryptonian Artifact Switching Bodies With, Lex
But Instead, Decided To See What Clark Was Like Lionel Was Amazed By, The Strength And, Heat Vision Clark Had
Always my reason to smile, Wednesday/Smallville, seeing tom light up when kyle came on it was like seeing his little brother again they had great chemistry definitely one of my favorites episodes.
:)
I love the ending of this ep. Clark having fun sharing his powers and not having to hide it from a friend
Run is one of the best episodes, not just cause it's THE FLASH.. but because Kyle Gallner's performance, and the characters relationship with Clark was so good. Tom and Kyle had great chemistry, and the story telling was great. Also had a beautiful, near perfect ending for the episode.. Loving the Podcast guys keep up the great work! 👍🏼
There is someone faster than Clark, finally🙂I love "Run". Really good episode with iconic DC character. And Kyle is such a cool guy🙂
"Run" an awesome episode from start to finish. Love the dynamic between Clark and Bart. Plus seeing more of Lex's personality shift, as things around him change.
It is a feel good episode, every scene is wild, and fun. To see Clark enjoy himself more, working with friend's, creating a unique bond. Even when the things they do may be challenging, there is always a way to make things right
Bummer Kyle was never picked up for a series. Hmm you never know. If there is something in the works, maybe a JL crew reunion?
It's funny, I was just telling my mom that Kyle was in Smallville. I've been on a Kyle binge since I saw him in passengers last month, lol. He was phenomenal in that movie ❤
For Michael, Lana's tatoo is explained later on. It's actually very relevant to the story for season 4 with the knowledge stones.
Happy Valentine's Day TALK VILLE! Yay! Kyle Gallner! Glad you guys were able to get Kyle for the very first episode as THE FLASH which is an awesome episode with another one of the best ending scenes from the entire series! Happy New Year Again! Grateful Tom, Michael & Ryan all enjoyed "Run" together! #SmallvilleForever
Hey!! I think i follow your Instagram account 😂
@@RadcliffeAsu Thanks!
One of my favorite episodes of the entire series.
I loved this episode. This one felt like you were watching an actual comic book unfold, on-screen. And the throwback to the Superman vs Flash classic "who's faster!?" question was awesome!! As was seeing Kyle Gallner! He's great!!
Season 4 is the first season of the show where there is an overarching season-long plot. The stones, the map, China, the Teagues, all related. I suspect they didn't have the whole thing fleshed out at the start, but when Jason's mother appears, it soon explains Jason, the tattoo, the stones and so on. Hope you guys get Jensen Ackles on the show.
I do wish Kyle had reprised his role a few times over the years. It was fun to introduce a new hero to the mix and expand the world with other DC characters. They bring so much to the world-building aspect of the show.
Transference is my favourite episode of the show I reckon, looking forward to that rewatch!
THIS EPISODE is what in my opinion changed TV & Smallville from then on! Probably other shows before did it, but this was the current when after having cameos and crossovers exploded!
Michael, be nice. Both Tom and Ryan were giving thanks and praise and you shut them down. "Paging Dr
Freud", Tom interjected. Great guest, Kyle! Fun. Thanks guys!
Rascal flatts playing at the end is a core memory for me. Perfect song choice.
Oh, I was soooo hoping Kyle would return for this. Before there was Grant, there was Kyle, and I loved every moment he was on Smallville. Or as Bart would put it, "Smellyville" ❤❤❤
Smallville begins to tip more into the DC/superhero world with having it's own version of the Flash. In that of Bart Allen/Impulse. So glad you got Kyle Gallner on as a guest this week.😀🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤
Two more to go. Four if you count the Wonder Twins.
@@GabePuratekutaOh there's way more than that
There's quite a roster who still shows up later.@@GabePuratekuta
@@WolfEatZombies Certainly as the seasons continue, quite a "League" of heroes begin to form. As many more enter Clark's world.
Bart Allen was my Kid Flash when I read comics. I loved this episode. Especially when it shows how much faster The Flash is to Clark
That's because Barry Allen was dead so Wally West had to be Flash.
@GabePuratekuta I know. I did also grow up on the Justice League show with Rosey playing Wally, Aka Flash
This is one of my favorite episodes! The introduction to the Flash that led to the introduction to other DC characters down the road was so awesome! Loved the names on the I.D cards 😂😂 So glad you were able to get Kyle Gallner on the podcast!! 😁🙌
Justice League Unlimited isn't the only DC show Micheal voiced somebody. He also voiced a bad guy in an episode of Batman Beyond. Another great DC animated show!
Michael Rosenbaun Was Voicing A, Smart High School Jock In, Terry McGinnis's Story
Joining, The Jokerz Gang
Because His Mom Wanted Too Much Expectations From, Him
Its cool that tom said the “map” looks like a tree
It certainly did look like a tree.
@@GabePuratekuta it is certainly a tree
the symbol is used and clarified. It means water - transformation. this is a series trying to give the characters more than an episodic arc, and for lana its this and her ancestors - and it includes clark.
Tom's acting was superb in this episode, this is probably one of my favorite episodes of all time in smallville.
Chloe is about to become the best sidekick ever! Thats when the show really picks up sometimes when i rewatch injust start at s4 lol
A fun episode - liked the little tinge of jealousy from Clark when Bart gave Chloe attention. 😂
More Kyle Gallner?! I'm here for it. 32:35 exactly that. Was fun to have Clark in the backfoot with someone else taking the lead. I was all in on this dude as an actor after this episode. Everytime he popped up on a tv episode or in a movie he is always a delight.
This is a top five episode of Smallville all time for me, it’s the episode I can go back and watch over and over again and always enjoy it!
Love how during the pod they say very coily "We have a surprise guest, stay tune👀" yet when I clicked on the video I see Kyle Garnell in 1/3 of the thumbnail 😅
Kyle Gallner is so legit. Perfect guest hope he comes back later ❤
The ending with the music is absolute perfection. It's one of those endings that always makes me smile. The start of a life long friendship and the Genesis of "the League"
I love the episode for many reasons, one being that it seems to be the first time Clark encounters someone with powers that didn't come from the meteor rocks (Kryptonite). So, this introduces the notion, for the first time in this series, that people who have powers don't always come from Kryptonite. Plus, you have someone showing up with superspeed (one of my all-time favorite superpowers, alongside Flying), like Clark, and for the first time Clark is really able to hang out with someone (who has a power like his) and not worry about them turning crazy or about keeping his secret. I also really like the ending with both of them running down a road with their superspeed, having fun. And this scene is also great because Bart shows Clark just how fast he is truly is. You have Clark in that scene already struggling to keep up with him, then Bart shows Clark just how good he is by turning around and running backwards, then finally (my favorite part) you see Bart super speed away, while they're already running at super speed. And this leaves Clark in disbelieve (that someone could be that fast) before he smiles, probably thinking how he has made a cool and great friend (this is my favorite scene in this episode, and maybe the entire series, but I have to think about that). And this made me come up with a theory about Clark and other people with powers from kryptonite (the meteor infected, also known as meteor freaks). We know that Clark blamed himself for the death of Lana's parents because they died in the meteor shower (which he arrived with in his ship), and this guilt probably increased when he discovered the meteors were remanences of his home planet Krypton (of course Clark is not responsible, but that is how he felt). So, it's logical to assume he might feel the same way about anyone that got abilities from the kryptonite, and any deaths that occurred by these people. So, maybe part of the reason Clark is able to have fun, and hang out with, Bart is because he knows Bart got his abilities from a different source, and not the kryptonite (but that is just my theory).
Hell yes!!!! Not even an exaggeration, but run is my absolute all-time favourite episode of Smallville. And you guys managed to get Kyle Gallner on the podcast?! Legends!! ❤🤩
This was one of my favorite episodes. I wish that they could call Bart the Flash but they couldn't so his name was Impulse. The Lana and Martha reminded me of Clark telling Whitney he'd take the man over the memory when Whitney's dad was sick. The relationship between Clark and Bart was great. I loved the "League" comment and the look and Clark's face when Bart went supersonic. I did find it funny how Lex said he didn't want to keep secrets from Clark but kept the map reveal from Clark. This was a solid 2 roses for me. I really liked Kyle in American Sniper. He's really talented. Glad you guys had him on. I love how most of your guests say that they felt safe on your set.
Bart isn't The Flash, so it would have been inappropriate anyway.
Lex this season definitely crossed over to just being willing to straight up lie to Clark now. Something has been broken between them forever. After Clark discovered the room, and perhaps after the experience with his father and taking full control of Luthorcorp. He wouldn't mind being friends, but he has his own agenda that takes priority, and he's happily keeping up the facade of let's be friends without having the real heart behind it anymore.
@@jerodast It was definitely when that dagger disintegrated.
It's interesting to hear Michael say the Justice League animated series didn't run very long; since if you take the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited - which were technically two separate, but continuing series - as one whole, that spanned from 2001 to 2006. So that spanned most of the time he was also doing Smallville, ending just a couple of years sooner.
Obviously, the amount of time doing voice work for an animated series is very different from a live action series; they can cover multiple episodes or even an entire season in a few sessions. So it may not have seemed like he did that for very long.
Still, I do agree that he was great as the voice of the Flash. I loved the episode where (DCAU) Lex and the Flash swapped bodies; and Michael, as Lex in the Flash's body, is like, "Well, I might as well learn the Flash's secret identity." and then pulls back the mask and looks in the mirror and goes, "I have no idea who this is."
I think Michael would still make a great live action Barry or Wally.
It is awesome you got ahold of Kyle to talk to him about his time on Smallville!! I've seen him other stuff, and I think he's such an interesting actor.
I know around this time he was also in an SVU episode, where his character slept with his English teacher.
*Best line between Bart & Lex.*
*Bart-I want a Lawyer*
*Lex-...and I want a Ponytail, disappointment abounds*
Kyle Gallner is the perfect Flash. And Michael Rosenbaum voiced the Flash in the JL animated series. I see the Smallville 'Impulse' as the same character as 'The Flash' in the JLAS/JLU. The same personality. Perfect casting!
Speaking of cats, I'm aware of in the comics, Supergirl has a super-powered pet cat named Streaky.
And she gave Streaky to Power Girl.
And Streaky was a member of the Legion of Super-Pets, along with Krypto, who was the inspiration for Smallville's Shelby.
You know what... Kyle Gallner would be perfect for Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in James Gunn' DC Universe. He even has the facial hair to pull it off.
Love Kyle’s energy as Flash everytime he comes thru the episodes 😍 season 4 is 🔥🔥🔥 love Talkville 🎧♥️
I remember this episode being so cool when it came out. The intro for the flash was crazy. Moments like him running on water and speeding away at the end were great.
Was he the Flash though? I ask because Barry Allen and Wally West are certainly the Flash, but Bart is Impulse which is what they call him in later episodes.
@@Maikigai I think Kyle kind of touches on that in this pod, that they went the impulse naming route because of a possible Flash series and maybe other legal stuff. You could be right based on the names.
@@ShadowBendAh, I didn’t catch that. I still like his version, though. He was a fun addition to the show.
I love how this was clark first intro to the wider dc universe. Cause it finally feel like smallville was being part of a bigger universe than clark life. Which is why I love comic books is seeing two heroes team up. It's great to see a joyous clark in a episode .
That was interesting! Thanks for your special guest. My favourite scene is when Lex recieved a box with russian art and caption on it says "ФРАГЫЛ". Russian is my first language and here's a funny fact it isn't a word, means absolutely nothing and many fans around here are confused. "Smallville" just took your caution note "Fragile" and wrote each letter in Kirillicy alphabet instead of our "Хрупкая тара" 🤣
Talkville should do a special thing for the Justice League episode. You could have all the JL actors on that would be awesome to see. Alan Ritchson (Aquaman) Lee Tompson Young (Cyborg) Justin Hartley (Green Arrow) and of course Kyle Gallner (The Flash)
Lee Thompson Young sadly passed away years ago, way back in 2013. But otherwise, getting the others on, that would be awesome!
@@LivstevMotherEarth Awww that sucks I really liked his Cyborg he played the character well. Thanks for letting me know..
Yes please ❤
When I think of Smallville, this episode is always the first one that comes to mind. Kyle was fantastic, hard to believe it was his first 'bigger' role. Great chemistry with Tom.
Man, this was great! So cool you got Kyle for this episode. Such a laid back dude. You guys should try to get John Glover for next week’s episode Transference. I would love to hear both point of Views from Tom and John.
The scene where clark saves impulse is one of my favorite scenes in smallville. We sart seeing a lot of change in how clark reacts and deals with his powers. And its the first time clark is just absolutely fed up and doesn't give a f---. Its just a fun scene. He turns to that one guy and he's like.. you don't want to be here after tossing a guy like 10ft in the ar or more. And hes like... you know what... your right... bye see ya! 😂😂😂
Great to see Kyle on the podcast. I loved this episode of Smallville!
"Directing is giving someone a nugget so that they can be creative and find their own voice with the moment."
As a director, I really like this and I know exactly what you mean.
I'm a huge flash fan so this is one of my fave eps of the series. I love the ending. The look on Clark's face as they both super speeding and then Bart takes off in a blur gets me every time. Such a great ep
Nothing can beat the ending to this episode. Best music moment in the show, makes me sad and happy at the same time. Run barry run!
Yes! Get Jensen on the podcast!!!
It is immeasurable to say about the initiative of Michael, Tom and the team, in discussing each episode of Smallville. It is definitely one for fans of this Show and each actor and actress. I wish each of you success. Congratulations and thank you very much for providing this experience.
This was such a good episode and Kyle Gallner's debut was just great. The disappointing part was they couldn't call him the Flash or by his name Bart Allen or something.
I’m so glad Kyle appreciates this episode as much as we all do! Such an underrated performance! The ending where Clark looks blown away how fast Bart was is so cool! They both really made eachother better people. Beautiful writing and acting on this episode. Can’t believe this wasn’t a 🌹 🌹! I probably rewatched this episode more than any other. It was like a movie!
aahhwww thank you so much for having kyle over! "run" is still one of my favorite smallville episodes, and it's also what made an instant fan of kyle, and still am 20 years later! this was so much fun to watch ☺
Kyle’s a good guy and a wonderful actor! Warm to his fans. So glad you had him on guys. He doesn’t get enough credit. Check him out in Dinner in America and The Passenger! He’s one of the greats.
This is one of my favorite interviews ever. Been smiling ear to ear. Always Hold onto Smallville!
Clark quickly returns to "Being in the world, but not belonging to it!" 🥺 But living with someone you can compete with without having to hold back all the time is a great relief! It's another form of belonging, I don't remember it completely, but I think this question will still come to the football team. Reaching one's own limits, especially during adolescence, is fundamental to structuring one's self, but it is not always simple for those with high skills.
Since this is the episode Smallville's version of the Flash appears. It might be worth bringing up how you Rosey, of course voiced Wally West, in the Justice League Unlimited animated series. Wally is a character closely tied to the Flash. Always liked how you branched out into that part of the DC world.😀
I remember when I first saw this episode (I live in another country so there were no teasers or posters so I had no idea that Bart was going to be in it), it widened the Smallville world for me. For one thing, it was a sign that they were going to bring in actual DC characters and not analogues or poorly-disguised versions. For another, that there were other sources for superpowers that wasn't from Krypton (I also like how they never bothered to explain how Bart got his powers). Smallville always felt so self-contained, which was fine for the first 2-3 seasons, but now it was stretching its wings and this, for me, was them putting us on notice.
I think this episode is also the catalyst for Clark unlocking new levels of speed seen in later episodes.
This is one of my all time favourite episodes of Smallville
I like this episode because it slowly introduces us to important DC characters

Love the introduction to the Flash, Kyle Gallner definitely brought that fun charisma to the character, lots of witty dialogue, great lines foreshadowing and dropping hints for what these characters will become. Ultimately this episode was very well written.
I didn't initially care at this point for Lana's tattoo storyline along with the scenes with Jason but it's a little sub-plot that pushes the overall season arc/story forward.
Loved the growing Clark/Lex tension, their scenes are always great.
Another iconic moment at the end of the episode and Season 4 has plenty of them which is why it's in my top 3 seasons.
You young city slickers don't get the Plaid! During the 70s they were relatively inexpensive and more durable than pullovers and dress shirts. While working in hay to keep the stems and such from sticking you in the arm you were your sleeves long. The corn stalks have leaves that have fine serrated edges so you keep the sleeves long as not to get what is like a papercut with the irritation of whatever happened to be on the plant. When you didn't need your arms protected you could roll the sleeves up so your arms were cooler.
Love this episode! It was great seeing another future JLA member and the first time Clark meets someone else with powers that isn't a meteor freak. Plus I love the iconic race scene at the end where Clark is amazed that someone is actually faster than him. Some version of a Superman/Supergirl vs Flash/Impulse race has appeared in pretty much every show or movie that has those characters and its always so fun to watch.
This was such an important step for Smallville, the beginning of expanding the world outside of just Superman characters. We got to feel that it was part of the wider DC universe of characters and it was so fun seeing these characters pop up and reappear in future seasons. It was great to hear from Kyle too!
It will be nice to have Janssen for the later episodes of the season! :)
I STILL REMEMBER THE PROMOS FOR THIS EPISODE THE WEEK IT WAS GONNA AIR. MY GOD WAS THAT AN AWESOME TIME
Since you brought it up, that cage scene is one of the sickest Lex/Flash/DC universe scenes ever. I can't wait to talk about it. Michael Rosenbaum is 11/10, same for Kyle. For me, that's DC to the max
