I remember the young, unruly guy that Daugaviņš was when the joined the Latvian team. And look at him now - a calm, inspiring leader, even fatherly, taking the responsibility, still going strong and doing what needs to be done. A true Captain. Respect to Kaspars.

I think France is actually pretty tough this year, they got fighter spirit. Just from what I notice about their play. They were also extra pissed off about two games already lost.
Dude, France had players from top league clubs of Switzerland, Czechia and Finland in this match. And France was very motivated to win this since they lost the other two matches that they played.

As a Latvian myself, I wouldn’t say Latvia deserved this win. Quite passive defense, same as the 1st game against Poland, bad passing. The game was decided by our seasoned veterans Abols, Daugavins and Merzlikins with lots of saves. Otherwise, quite a poor showing. It looks like the team lacks motivation. Maybe the bronze medal against USA has gone to our heads, and I blame our national media for that. Always glorifying that victorious moment. It’s time to forget the past and move on.

And I wouldn’t say that Latvia didn’t deserve the 2 points, Elvis Merzlikins made many big saves and helped his team a lot when he occasionally stepped out of gate to pass the puck faster to his teammates. And Daugaviņš and other attackers did well too, it’s just that Latvia’s defence players made some mistakes and wrong calls when helping Elvis defend, but it has to be said that they made more mistakes against Poland than they did this match, so it can be fixed with training which they are doing today I assume since today it’s free for them. I don’t understand why you say they didn’t deserve it, they played until last second of OT.

@@Crimson19977 The only obvious thing here is your ignorance. Latvia's roster looks very similar to their last year's 3rd place winning one. They have only lost 1 impact player from the year prior for this tournament. So this lack of focus from them is inexcusable. I hope their coach trashed them for their subpar performance in the locker room after pathetic wins they didn't exactly deserve. But he won't because the staff of that international team is a boys-club.

France has basketball and football as their main sports focuses, so they get way less impact players in hockey than the likes of Germany, and almost the entire Scandinavia. They don't exactly have a professional enough hockey league happening there that, say, NHL scouts really pay attention to. Their most recent NHL experience players - Bellemare and Roussel (he isn't part of the internatial team this year) - were only depth players for their NHL teams at best. For Latvia, hockey is so important I heard the government granted everyone a bank holiday for that 3rd place finish last year there. Weather differences do their part too.
Don't fucking talk about Poland, they are just as poor as Latvia, you can tell with how many of their citizens immigrate away from there. To the UK, for instance. Ukrainian refugees coming in to Poland don't count.
Balcers was the only impact player this year's Latvia roster doesn't have anymore. Elvis is expected to play the same starter role Silovs had last year, but is playing poorly. So there are absolutely no excuses for these undeserved wins that should have been WAY more convincing.
I swear, if @ghyg3870 is a latvian as well, it builds a repeating trend of latvian people being just utterly stupid.
