From EPIPHONE:
Multi-platinum-selling and four-time Grammy Award winner Adam Jones, from the band Tool, is one of rock's most talented and sonically innovative guitarists. Now Epiphone has partnered with the Gibson Custom Shop to create a new model that pays tribute to what Adam calls "one of my top favorite guitars of all time" - his Silverburst 1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom. It has a three-piece maple neck with a custom Adam Jones profile, an ebony fretboard, and a mahogany body with a maple cap. Finished in Antique Silverburst, it also features a Custombucker pickup in the neck position and a Seymour Duncan Distortion in the bridge position, along with CTS potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors. It also has a Gibson "open book" headstock profile and even comes with a replica two-inch convex mirror included in the Deluxe Protector Series hardshell case.

I'm not clicking on the zz link and getting bombarded with ads... what's the price? Let me guess; $1,500 for a Chinese Epiphone... because muh Gibson headstock 😅
How new is the Adam Jones '79? Zzounds doesn't have them in stock at the moment, it's a 'reserve now' thing. Did they previously have a batch of them and sold that batch out or is this the first run?
@@jameslanclos568 They sold out everywhere the first day, but they will restock soon. Buying with "Reserve Now" will hold your place in line when they ship: www.zzounds.com/a--3979398/item--EPIEIGCAJLPC79N?siid=346158
Thanks for watching!
Thanks. That's what I did...reserve list, I'm on it! At Zzounds !!! I can't wait to get it. I'm glad I held out and didn't buy the AJ art series or the Alex Lifeson Epi. I came real close to getting the Alex EPI. Real close !!!@@PlayandTradeGuitars
Trogly is pissed that y’all got this review uploaded before he did
Mirror format too.
Currently waiting on his take on this masterpiece
Bro is punching the air rn.
Lol. Too bad Trogley.
He was so angry he fell down the stairs. He’s just laying there… 😢
Just picked one up today at the local shop. Epiphone sure has come a long way from where they used to be. This one is probably one of (if not) the best Epiphone that’s ever been released so far.
I was about to buy an artwork version last night, SOOOOOO glad I waited until this morning
love that it has the best looking Headstock shape possible
and it does not need to read GIBSON to be a BEAST of a real good LP Guitar
my kind of Custom Les paul right there
It’s got more bang for Buck than the greenie.
Without question. The high price can be justified
@@GKram13the high price is 100% not justified
@@chrisminor8742 it’s essentially an artist signature Gibson with custom specs. The greeny was not justifiable, at least this has the specs.
@@GKram13 Any way you look at it, it’s a Epiphone. No Epiphone should be over a grand period.
Essentially an artist signature Gibson? You’re kidding right?
@@chrisminor8742 this guitar should cost what the greeny costs and the greeny should cost ~$900
The biggest thing (it appears to me) you’re missing is the nitro finish and the words Gibson up top and the tuners. Damn, that is impressive given the pricetag!
It has a nitro finish??
@@CrazyNachooo I would think it’s poly given its price, I’d really be surprised if it was nitro, if it is, even more bang for your buck.
@@CrazyNachooo ya watch again, he says it’s poly
if this had a nitro finish it would probably be a 2+k guitar nitro takes a long time to work with. personally good on that its poly as its what allows it to be below 2k, i do however wish the back of the neck was atleast a satin, as that feels so much better, nothing some sandpaper cant fix tho
Finally! The non-art version! And it has the open book headstock??? Yes!!! Great pickups! Cool finish! Nice case candy! Imma shut up now. 😆 Good work, guys!
May i know why it's called the non art version sir? Thanks

Epiphone has set a new standard with this release - what’s not to love.
Excellent review
Well, still being made in china, using Laurel fretboards and still having QC problems vs similar/same priced Korean made LTD/Schecter which are damn near perfect.
What’s not to love is the retarded price tag
@@Masterfighterxnot lauriel it’s ebony
@@Masterfighterxstop talking out of your ass dude.. you CAN read… I assume.. clearly stated in the video and on the spec sheet that the fretboard is EBONY.. with true mother of pearl inlays.. damn … y’all just be saying anything on these threads😐
The artwork is what kept me from buying one of these, ended up with the wino Jerry Cantrell custom and swapped in a Gibson dirty fingers sm
I went for the Gibson. Happy as Larry.
I have a “Vail Of Bees” and it’s great but I’ve always felt like I have to be careful not to ruin the art. I was waiting for the non art version. Add an open book headstock too. Nice! My non art shipped today. I’m going to play the $hit out of this one! 🤘
A friend of mine has an actual 1979 Silverburst in excellent condition. I've played this Epiphone, and it's very close to a well loved original and very well made. The biggest difference is that the Epiphone is lighter.
Nice review. Reminded me of how in the zone you were for the very first AJ Custom video you did!
Thats really cool... the shout out to Thomann. I used to live 10 minutes away from that shop. REMARKABLE facility.
just got mine yesterday and its awesome. its as close to a gibson as i've ever seen an epiphone be.
The second they release an alpine white LPC with that headstock, I'm buying it lol
i guess you got your wish lol
I like that Fender Mustang hanging on the wall behind you. A friend of mine had one, same exact color. When I played it I fell in love, the neck felt so good and easy to play. At the time my friend was a singer and didn't know how to play guitar, so I tried to buy it off him, but it was a no deal. It was a vintage Mustang, the one you have looks shiny and new. New or old, it's all good, I'm not a guitar snob!
Damn John! You were well into the “zone” with this demo. Wasn’t sure you were heading back! Seems like you really enjoyed this newest beast and totally committed to proving its worth! Extremely well done! Loved your tone throughout. Absolutely love the guitar. Hats off Epi on this one!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for YOU, John….OUTSTANDING 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Thank you!! I really appreciate that 🍻🍻
I do have to say that it's a very cool guitar for sure. Plus a very nice chainsaw case.
But (almost) 1800 euro is way too much for an Epiphone (to me).
Ordered mine after watching this review. It should arrive this month as it was back ordered. Pretty excited to try a custom bucker
I did get one of the first Gibson Series - after I saw this Inflation and mass production of this Jones model (limited or not) - I sold mine...nevertheless it is very beautiful instrument. They simply want to satisfy every the last request on this instrument. What was more impressing than this guitar for me, was how your playing nailed the Tool felling! Great...
Looks so good! Getting this guitar, the Gibson custom bucker in the neck and the chainsaw case is so worth the pricetag. Well done epiphone!
It’s so not worth the price, but if you want to waste your money go ahead
@@chrisminor8742that is your opinion, to which you are entitled.
Im getting me one thank you for this video and review
also love that SILVER SG BEAUTY shilling at the wall
talking about ultimate SilverBursting Ones
I got a Julie Hefner art series and I absolutely love it, I swapped the pickups in it because i could and i dont mind the Epiphone headstock but seriously?! They gave the non art the real mother of pearls (which I personally could take or leave) but they coulda at least stayed committed with it and the Gibson custombucker exspecally for the same price tags, like damn I coulda waited and gotten more "historically" accurate to the custom shop and not have to sell my kidney
Man, that is badass. I haven't agreed with the pricing recently but I'm sold. I repent. Look at that damn guitar! All the Custom touches, silver burst, pickups, and yes, the headstock. Protektor case. I do like it more than the artwork series. It sounds awesome. I think you may have been a little conservative in your rating. 😊
I will at least try one, and if it's what it appears to be, I'll be a happy boy.
Amazing review. Been looking forward to this since I got the Veil Of Bees release. Same with that guitar, it came with higher action than I prefer. Got that fixed and I love it. The Gibson headstock is a great thing to see, as well as the full burst on the back and the neck. Looks like they did this one right! Great review as always bros. Thank you! \m/
I have the anti laokoon art... I dont care for it, but can't see it when I'm playin'.. Amazing guitar.. and only paid $799 for mine.. I'll live with that 😉
Amazing epiphone though.. love it! 🔥
Gonna fly off the shelves for sure!
Doubtful, they will move some to the Tool fanboys and to people that actually think it’s a good deal.
Damn i’m gonna buy this one 💸
I just bought an art series two weeks ago! I'm so choked. I had no Idea this was coming😭
So apart from there being no art, a different headstock shape (that doeant effect playability) and different pick ups (that you can swap out anyway) - whats the difference between the other epiphones and this one?
Great playing! Thanks for review! Seems a Custombucker is a overkill for this guitar.
Wow that sounds great,
I wanted the Wino but now that this has the Gibson headstock, I am torn. I would jump on the Wino with a Gibson headstock. I like the color thats all.
Nice to see you gave it a proper review the first time, unlike the Greeny... Price isn't as big of an issue when you're an AJ fanboy 😂 Great review and great playing, cant wait to get mine later this week!
Congrats on picking one up and thanks for watching! Enjoy!
I've got a Squire Tele Custom and it don't sound any better. But this looks FAB !
Having been able to get the Veil of Bees the day they came out, guitar shop even ate the tax for me, this kinda piss's me off just a smidge.
How does the mirror attach to the headstock?
with all the copies going around, this is the closest to the real thing, but cheaper and still in the family name. gonna try and get 1!!!
okay wow they made the headstock look amazing and they added a gibson probucker! I really wish that headstock was on my art version, damn epi why you do me like this?
I would have liked to have been shown what came in the case, especially the 2" Convex Mirror
I don't know about others but I personally view this guitar as something revolutionary. Let's be honest, that headstock looks so muh better. From what I know, Epi is starting a new line-up where they will regularly produce LPC's with that very headstock (Epi Inspired by Gibson Custom or smth). So excited for these guitars.
their high end guitars will have it, so probably all 1k+ epis
Awesome guitar but was shocked at the price these are listed for here in Australia at $3,800. The Gibson version is $4,800
It's closer to what Adam actually plays than the Gibson Adam Jones Standard tbf
That's crazy that the Gibson is only 26% more in Australia. Its twice the price compared to the Epi in the US.
Interesting note. I measured the neck thickness on mine and got significantly different measurements. .082" at the First fret and 1" at the 12th fret. Seems to be allot for a production variation.
Now we just need the Adam Jones Es-355 that he's been teasing
Where has he been teasing this? I saw them live a couple months ago and didn't see it. Haven't seen anything on social media either. Maybe I missed it.
@@Dog-O saw Tool live twice in two different cities and he had it both times. He only used it for about 2 min for the invicisible intro then switches to the V. I did manage to take pictures. He also used the reverse silverburst les paul with thr bigsby
@@zigzagrz looks like you got a scoop bro. Haha. I must’ve missed it at the show or he wasn’t using it yet. Show was November 11th. I’m guessing we’ll start seeing on his instagram at some point soon then. Do you know if it was a Gibson or Epiphone?
@@Dog-O both Gibsons, the les paul he's already teased in a youtube short. I was sitting on his side by the guitar tech so I saw the whole rack
@@Dog-O Part of Gibson/AJ's new business model - if he has been in the same room as it, or knows someone who has, it's a new Gibson 'Signature' with his name on it en route. Thus far none of the 'Adam Jones' guitars have been guitars he actually plays. One of them was $20k too.... that has to sting!!
Honestly, if all epiphone came with the Gibson headstock, I’d probably start buying them. I just hate the epiphone headstock
SO literally after putting down my Art version tonight (Korin Faught's Sensation) I fire up CZcams and find out that Epiphone did this to me after having bought it from GC 2 weeks ago. I'm still within the return window. I need this one. LOL
How much was your Art version?
Cool
Interested in how the DC High-Gain Humbucker, in the bridge of the Gibson version, compares to the Seymour Duncan Distortion in the Epi???
Any word when the firebirds will be released??
Yes. 😎
I just bought the queen bee 😅
As a gigging musician chic I say it's WICKED BAD ASS SEXY !! GOT TO FIND AWAY TO GRAB THIS ( FULL TIME GIGGING MUSICIAN SO CREDIT SUCK LOL)
This seems like a better deal than the Gibson USA Standard model, am I right in thinking that?
The fretwork with most new imported guitars are hit and miss. This one ive tried in store and the fretwork is extremely gritty rough feeling especially while vibrato or bending. When ur donr buying it make sure it goes to a luthier for a fret polish and levelling.
What is the mirror for ??? I’ve never heard of that! Please tell meeee 😂 seriously great review and this guitar actually got me excited hahaha. Not usually a fan of silverburst but dang this is a beauty and it sounds fantastic.
Clearly not a AJ fan if you have to ask
@@chrisminor8742you could have answered the legit question with the time you spent typing,
I want it right now
They got everything right here.
...Except for the metric style bridge. Anything to save a couple pennies, huh Gibson 🤣
edit: And of course the 3 screw truss rod cover, but I wasn't expecting that to change.
Well, i am really glad i've purchased art collection during sales. In france, i paid 1275€ (sensation was even lower at 1090€) , this new 1979 model is 1775€ here, much much higher price for minor add (imo).Never use neck pickup, don't really care about headstock or MOP... the art ? i never see it.
Pass on the thin neck. Epi’s thick asym neck on their Les Paul Modern is my fav.
I am wondering if it has the Switchcraft switch and input jack, or the Asian copies. Could someone answer this?
It does indeed
CHIBSON
It wouldnt surprise me if Epiphone eventually replaces the Gibson USA production line and the only Gibson USAs will be $6k plus Custom Shops.
You can’t be serious? That would absolutely never happen and just stupid to think it would.
I doubt they’ll remove standards, but yeah, these crazy Epi prices kind of ‘’justify’’ the outrageous gibson prices. Who gives a damn about epi headstock when the damn thing costs what a standard cost just a few years ago
Dude that's silly.
Doubt they pull the Jackson move, but more likely raise even more prices
So is it just the headstock that’s different to the Art Versions?
No the neck pickup is a Gibson custombucker and real MOP inlays.
great to see gibson headstock on epip, no matter whats they try to in future , maybe nitro finish, but just dont copy fret lips, if i have to choose, i pick this epiphone over gibson one ,just because no fret lip , they got same pickup ,the only different just the name on headstock and the nitro finish , and i hope all epiphone model get the gibson headstock, not only signature model , but really getting expensive now , thats big downside , same price as the gibson les paul modern lite.
Great guitar. Bad price. Since when is 1500 ok for a chinese guitar? Unless you’re a big AJ fan and need the custom silverburst look, the gibson standard is worth the relatively moderate price jump. I mean 1500 is already expensive, why not go full gibson?
Are you really going to get a Gibson with those accoutrements for anywhere near that price?
Yeah that's how I feel. Unless it's some kind of very particular epi like this one, I can't see not just saving a little more and getting a Gibson. It's worth it.
@@LORDJPXX3 There is the AJ standard. Sure, its a farcry from the AJ Lp custom, but its a Gibson. I know its a petty stance, but thats of Gibsons own doing.
Wish I’d not purchased my art one now
Not many upgrades over my Veil of Bees model. The Custombucker is cool, but not worth it for me.
The pickup, real mother of pearl inlays, open book headstock… even if it’s not worth it to you personally, I feel the guitar justifies the price.
@mountainpeakcloud8442 I agree, if I didn't own an art model, I'd be in line for this one for sure.
One-thousand-seven-hundred-and-fourty-nine euros ... NOPE, thank you.
Is it a tad overpriced? Maybe
Am i gonna buy one? You betcha
WTF , I got a guitar for Xmas. Bought a fixeruper last November and now I want this beautiful piece of awesome. I think I may need help! Is there a 12 program for Guitar P@rn Addicts? Or am I going to end up owning a music store? Please😢
Dude if only epiphone used nitro I’d start buying from them again, tried nitro and will never touch a poly again
It does not have the abr like bridge like greeny, thats a minus at the price point... I'd rather pickup a 2nd hand art version and upgrade pickups if needed
Agreed. That can be converted at least, but it seems odd that Greeny and the upcoming "inspired by" models coming out next month all have the abr bridge, and the AJ doesn't. Anything to save a couple pennies I guess lol.
I would say because a 1979 custom came out with a nashville bridge, not an abr bridge.
fair point@@philabrahamson6841
@@philabrahamson6841 correct, we were mistaken.
The point is, the guitar comes with a metric style bridge featured on most Epiphones. Unlike greeny and the other “inspired” Epiphones coming out next month.
@@trevor4533 my point is it is still inspired by a 1979 Les Paul Custom not a 50s Les Paul. I dont think it is a big deal. Faber make a great conversion kit if you want an abr bridge.
Man.. Neck might just be a wee too thin in the beginning to my taste.. I main an ESP Standard Eclipse and while it's very nice, I wouldn't mind a little extra thickness.
I prefer thick necks and mine doesn't feel all that thin. It's very comfortable and full feeling IMHO
Waiting on Joe Perry version
Is it just me or this Epiphone AJ sounds dark? It sounds muffled and not enough highs? I’m concerned it wouldn’t cut through in the mix.
It's you.
Why does everybody act like the head stock is all a new thing ❓❓❓❓‼️‼️‼️‼️😤 They changed to the open book Headstart 2 years ago where is everybody been ❓❓❓
Because those are two totally different headstocks.
The Epiphone Adam Jones LP Custom in silver burst with artwork is $1299 at Sweetwater and this one without artwork is $1499? What's wrong with their math? Is it maybe because it has the Gibson headstock?
Non at is better spec
That’s right!
Besides the difference of the open book headstock, it has a Gibson pickup in the neck and real mother of Pearl inlays. For an extra $200, that’s a good deal… it’s even closer to the specs of AJ’s guitar. Keep in mind the art on the back of the artwork series is essentially printed on, where as the burst in the back of these are painted, which involves more work.
@mountainpeakcloud8442 many will agree that the artwork takes more time to do as its more labour's intensive and has greater detail than the plain '79. That being said, the headstock is where the bread and butter is!
@@dragan4658 The artworks, done by different artists, were already completed before these guitars were even in conception. Epiphone basically took reproductions of the art works and printed them on the guitars, so while yes, a painting does take longer, these painting were not made specifically for these guitars, so there's not really part of the labor of making these guitars beyond printing them... so I would not agree that these are more labor intensive than say a burst. Yes, the headstock makes a huge difference. I actually ended up getting a Japanese Burny LPC because I can't stand the usual Epi head stock, even the improved updated one. It's open book or nothing for me... LPs just look wrong with anything else.
Sounds like s custum ephi.
Damn I thought I wasn’t gonna buy one cause I already have a graphic series Frazetta but with the custombucker, MOP inlays and headstock change it might be different enough I could justify getting this and pairing it with my graphic one…but at that point for the price of owning both I could just buy a Gibson AJ standard. I also feel a little jipped by Epiphone. I’d have skipped the graphic one and waited for this better non art series version if I knew they had these upgrades planned all along.
Step 1 after buying: Flip that neck pickup. haha
I did and then I flipped it back
Doesn’t the original have a maple neck? And does this one?
Yes this has a 3 piece maple neck. Thanks for watching!

Jeez, why would *anyone* buy the Gibson AJ Standard!?
Because it's a standard in silverburst. I've played a few of them, and they all play better than the epiphones. Don't ask me why, they just do.
Because you are falling for eye candy, and not quality
All in your head my friend!@@mofomartianp
I'm wondering this very thing! The AJ Standard is a very nice guitar, but missing the LPC aesthetic and pickups.
Because it’s much better, genius! $1499 is about $609 too much for this
I had this guitar pre-ordered with my Tool fandom heart. My first LP. I couldn't get over I was paying $1500 for a fucking EPIPHONE. I came to my senses and bought a used 2018 GIBSON Studio Deluxe Silverburst for $1100 that already had Kluson locking tuners instead of the junk put on this model. Gonna use the savings for a DDJ pickup and make it more legit than this eye candy can ever be. Now I dont have to punch myself in the face everytime I see "Epiphone" on the headstock while playing. $300 more than the already ridiculous art guitar price for a pickup Id never use, nor is to signature spec (not that AJ uses neck pickup), and a different cut of the headstock. LOL fuck dat. Maybe Ill buy the AJ Epi in 3yrs for $600 used...because its a fucking EPIPHONE no matter how good the QC gets....which to be fair Ive heard lots of good things about in recent years. @@aureliusandthespiral ok, let play that game. An epi LP custom is $799 at Sweetwater. Add a $250 pup to Gibsons bill of parts, and deduct ~$75 for the omitted epi bucker. On specs that still only makes it a $1000 guitar.
It will sell, so arguably Gibson have priced it right. But let's recognise opportunistic gouging when we see it.
