Thanks Billyfishing. You are the only one I have found who has taken the time to explain how to set the pump up and given the information needed to avoid days of effort and very painful blisters.
Sometimes I can get 10 worms out of ten, sometimes not one out of 100. Now I know why. Top man!
That it exactly, and it not just pumping. Digging is the same. So the common denominator was tide and weather. Thanks Brother 👍😁
My wife bought me a bait pump back in 1998 (never been used) every time I go collecting I always reach for the fork. This is without doubt the best bait pump "how to" on youtube. I'm not going digging anymore I'm going pumping, Watch out Sligo bay here I come! 😁

I bought a pump over 20 years ago and i only ever got a couple of worms with it and then gave up and went back to the fork. To be honest I didn't really know how to use it. I saw people using fairy liquid for their pumps to help with suction. I will now pass my pump onto my son and show him this great vid. Thanks for posting. 😃👍

Great detailed video Billy !! clearly shows the differences between pumping for blow lug versus yellowtails and blacks. It was'nt that long ago that people insisted that you couldnt pump blow lug
Hi Robert, I first started pumping in 08,and it took almost a year to get right, I was told the same thing, it's not possible they said. But alot people pump blow like me almost exactly the same way, So if it works it works.thanks Brother 😊👍
@@Billyfishing_watch I think the reason people believed you couldn't pump blow is because they tried it at the same places where they dug them and, like you say, those places are WAY too dry. It's all about suction and it's the water that gives it! Great video.

Hi Billy. Awesome video, very informative and helpful. Unfortunately I got sepsis and nearly died so I wont be fishing again until probably the cod season so I'm going to try and put into practice what you were saying many thanks. I really enjoy watching your video's as I learn a lot from them eg pendulum casting I was learning to pendulum cast and I was on Eastbourne beach and I had a lead fly off course down the beach parallel with the sea and a family with 2 young children happened to be walking along so I never did it again. I did however cast off the ground ok but haven't done any sea fishing for nearly 20 years but I plan to get back into it after replacing my tackle as I had most of it stolen twice.

@@Billyfishing_watch I've picked up so many good tips from your video, as you made easy to follow👌. What diameter size pump do you use ? 👍
@@barryfox76 Hi Barry, the i.d of the pump is 30mm and it's 95cm long, I don't know if the slimer pumps, 22,23 mm are any good for blow lug, but the 30mm works fine.👍👍
@@Billyfishing_watch thanks, I've just bought a 22mm one. I was told the thinner diameter was the easiest to use. 👍
@@barryfox76 No worries ,I am sure it works the same 👍😊
Excellent video, perfect level of detail. Would you recommend the alvey pump?
Hi Leonardo. Yes I would, that is the pump in the video. The 35mm. Thanks Brother 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch Thanks for the reply! Someone has offered me a used one for 40 euro, but it's actually 50mm. Do you think it would still be worth picking up?
I started with the 50mm, they work to. But €40 is to much for a second-hand outdated pump. The old pumps are short, and not nice to use. I think for 10 or 20 Euros more, you will get a much better pump.👍

Hi. Glad you liked it, as pumps go they are all pretty much the same. But I would go for a stainless steel pump, with an ID of 30 mm. And the longest one you can get! Thanks Brother 👌
Thanks bro I appreciate it
Hey Billy you've got great videos on here & nicely done 👍but that pump your using is a 34mm, can you remember where you bought that & yep i know this video is 2yrs old but going down to dig today and its just killing me off the thought of it, you know yourself, no bait means no fishing tonight the dilemma off it all (lol)😂😅😊
Hi Derek. It doesn't matter what pump you use and the 34mm is good. Just make sure it's not the old short fat ones! I don't think the 28mm is good for this type of worm. Just search lug worm pump, and there should be lots to choose from. Thanks Brother 😁👌

Great video Billy, any chance of a tutorial on how to freeze/preserve the blow lug...I've heard people say blow lug won't freeze as well as black lug. Great channel, keep up the good work!
No probs Kieran, but it's going to be a few months, all good things come to those who wait. Thanks Brother 😊👍
I found years ago that blow lug with thin skin didn't freeze well. Skin was too thin. However, the blow lug that were black froze very well.
They need to dry off on newspaper, wrap them like black lug and freeze. Make sure they are air tight so they don't get freezer burn.
I used to use regular gutted blow lug like this...
Gut, spread on a couple of layers of newspaper, fold them into a parcel. , Leave them in a cold fridge.. They'll last a week and go off just enough to be a bit sticky....always caught on them.
@@wanderingminstrel1768 Thanks Brother , there is a way to freeze them all, I will do a vid on it some time , thanks again 👍😊

Thanks for posting this awesome video. Just wondering if this works in shallow water. I live in Sweden and we dont get tide like u guys. But we got lots of beaches with shallow waters. A couple of days ago I saw several signs of lug worms so Im curious if your technique would work. Cheers
Hi. it's funny that you should ask, because that is why I started using the pump in the first place. The tide didn't go out very much a where I was. most of time it was just shallow water, and answer to your question yes it does work in shallow water. just use exactly the same technique it takes a little bit longer because you have to wait for the sand to settle before you can see the worms sometimes. Hope it works out for you see you on the beach 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch haha oh I see. Well then I'll try your method. It seems like Lugworm's option nummer one when trying to catch flatfish. Were gonna try to go after Plaice and Halibut. Thanks for the answer and for taking the time making these awesome videos😃

what diameter is your pump i have seen 22mm 30mm 50mm.
32mm, but that is really not important. The length of the pump is what you should focus on, the longer ones make your life easier. After many hours you're back feels the pain 👌

Hi bud. Glad you liked it, got the pump from VMO. Thanks Brother 😁👌
Hello Billy
the lugworm is that the same as what we call here in the Netherlands and French tap
Hi Willem, in Europe there are mainly two types of w worm, one is large and has a single hole and the other one has two holes, one with a cast and one without. the worms in the video are the worms with two holes hope this helps you out. Fish on 👍😁👌
@@Billyfishing_watch I have now found out what we call French tap here in the Netherlands is black worm with you I think
if you have never used a pump to collect your bait then the diameter of the pump is also important because I assume that you need to gain experience pumping your worms i saw in other videos here about pumps with a diameter 5cm i assume the bigger the diameter the easier it is in the beginning
Yes easier to learn with but the other pump is more effective, once you get the hang of its 👍
