  • Well... My Ol' Trailer needed some love, so I decided to give it a good overhauling. It was a ton of work and not a ton to show for it but it needed to be done.

    I completely stripped my 5x8 snowbear last spring. Since it's an all steel trailer it was a full month process while at work and sourcing parts lol. I installed the e-track wheel chocks and what a game changer for loading and unloading, so much easier. Keep up the good work, maybe someday I'll ride NB more than up Campbellton.

    you could use one of the new wheels for a spare tire....after having a flat on my trailer, and NOT having a spare, that's exactly what i did, without a problem since...just a suggestion.

      @Maritimer  Před rokem

      Hey man, yeah I bought a 3rd tire on a rim to use as a spare. I plan on doing a short video on mounting it to my trailer. So your suggestion was spot on, ahead of the curve haha thanks for watching !

    Put a fair amount of grease in the palm of your hand, then push the backside of the bearing into it. It'll push the grease. Into the bearing itself. Thus it will pack the bearing.

      I know from working on trailers here that the brown wire for running lights don't have anything to do with brake lights. It is the signal lights that are used for the brakes. They are brighter.

    I recommend pulling and fully cleaning the inboard bearing then using a bearing packer to replace the grease within. New seals also. That undercoat looks interesting. I had not seen that before. You might mention that most trailer tires require higher PSI than normal car tires, and it is important to them performing correctly. Consider some treatment on the new wood? Maybe a stain to prevent water absorption?

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  Před rokem

      I would have neded a bearing press to get the back one out, I dont have one nor was I going to buy one haha but yeah if you have the ability to get that bearing out, then for sure you should clean it the same.

    • @nathanbuck929
      @nathanbuck929 Před rokem

      @@Maritimer In most cars, you can usually put the nut back on without the outer bearing and yank the hub to pull the bearing and seal out of the hub. That does not work on same size trailer bearings, but a punch or drift and a hammer will knock the seal lose and release the bearing. If the seal was not damaged and there was no evidence of water (which there wasn't any), you are fine doing what you did. Sorry to be getting technical on you here. You make great videos!

    Nicely done!
    The tires on my toy hauler had the exact same wear pattern on them. The reason for this is that the axle tube is not heavy enough. I replaced it with one of a higher weight rating and presto; no more inside wear on the new tires.
    Oh, and don't use bearing buddies. All you're doing with those is pushing more grease inside the cavity than it can handle, so it'll push out the backside. Once the bearings and bearing cavity are properly packed they don't need to be touched until the next scheduled maintenance. Most mechanics will tell you this.
    Awesome vid buddy! Thanks for sharin!

      Under inflation would wear both shoulders on the tire. Center if over inflated. Wearing on one shoulder on a trailer is load related. Inside edge is over loaded, outside means under loaded. Your axel is pre arched to take the load.
