  • The Birmingham Balti became one of the staple dishes in the city after its invention in the 1970s, but only four of the original 30 restaurants remain in the Balti Triangle. Jack Carson reports.

      Mate that's not even true. The CAZ is essentially a ring around central Brum. Balti Triangle is in the Sparkbrook area. I believe Shababs is on Ladypool Road.

      Might well be true. I used to live in the area (Sparkhill), most white people moved out and Asians moved in. They are hardly going buy an expensive Balti or other curry when they can cook at least as well, if not better, themselves. I expect now these restaurants rely much more than they used to on the tourists, rather than the locals. Hence the drop in custom and revenue.

      Terrible muck food? What does that even mean? Indian food is the best food in the country! British Indian food has become a staple world wide to the point they opened a fancy upscale restaurant in New York City called "Brick lane" 😂🤣😂
      If you don't get it Brick Lane is a road in East London that has a load of Indian restaurants but it's just a working class neighborhood. But the food has become so famous they name fancy restaurants on the other side of the world after it 🤣☠️

      What the hell you talking about 🤦😂 no they don't. That's literally the fast food places where people are paid minimum wage to serve food they don't care about. My local Indian restaurant even cooks the food in direct view of the restaurant. Literally everyone can see the entire process.

    Went down the pan over twenty years ago, the last time I did go which was also over twenty years ago a young lad who had stepped outside of restaurant for a cigarette with his parents inside was punched in the face for refusing a “local“ a cigarette, after bein hit he was told to get out of “my” area, haven’t been around that culturally enriched dump since.

    The balti restaurants have been replaced by Desi pubs. Usually old run down pubs taken over, refurbished and serving great mixed grills as well as the traditional balti.
