It’s not that you’re not allowed to have a backwards hat it’s about understanding the situations you probably shouldn’t where it in. After practice and after workout interviews sure, but postgame at the podium in a press conference you probably take it off. If you don’t get that you might not understand how optics affect public perception of you and your organization

Yes, JJ Reddick is far more accurate and knowledgeable about actual basketball. Nick Wright is all about narratives - which is his job, to be fair, but the two really don't compare. Anybody who's interested in bball will take more from JJ Reddick, even though Nick really is entertaining.

Completely agree with the consequences argument. There has always been something about people trying to excuse their bad behavior with “the woke are trying to cancel me” that has always bothered me that I couldn’t quite put my finger on but that’s it. They’re conflating consequences and cancellation.
Eh, idk if I agree. None of those comedians he used as an example (Louis CK and Kevin Spacey) were “cancelled” by the woke mob. Those guys strictly faced consequences for their actions. A better example of the woke mob trying to cancel someone is what they tried to do to Dave Chapelle for simply telling some funny trans jokes. That’s the real issue ppl have with the woke mob; it’s how eager they are to be offended. And if they’re offended, forget about it, they’re going to try their hardest to cancel you, fair or not.

My point is, it shouldn’t even come to that. He easily could’ve been canceled and lost all of his sponsorships if he played his cards differently.

They can financial afford to lose sponsorships and even lose an audience. But what if you’re a rising comic or artist that just landed your first major deal and the you lose that sponsorship to the woke mob? Are you going to double down and watch your career go up in flames or apologize and try to undo that financial damage?

I’ve seen Jerry Seinfeld live a couple of times. His show was pretty funny. Not fall down laughing funny, but not a feeling of getting taken for the ticket price.

A while ago the Kelce brothers if I remember correctly talked about basketball players and such, and they did agree on something: the best athletes are on the NBA. As in maybe the top 3 or 4% of NFL and NBA are roughly similar in athleticism, but when you start going down the depth chart the average NBA guy is the superior athlete against the average NFL guy.
Add to it that, besides skills of course, at it's core basketball is about height. Micah Parsons is an amazing athlete, but he is 6'3. Derrick Rose and John Wall, who looked quite small amongst other players on a basketball court, are also 6'3. And sure, Micah has 50 pounds on them, but that is not gonna help you much if you don't have the dribbling and shooting skills to upset the fact that everyone is taller than you and most of them are not significantly inferior athletically to you.

On the whole walking the line between engaging analysis, and ridiculous thing is why I think FTF is the best sports talk show on TV rn and why its had such a meteoric rise. Those guys have awesome chemistry and really maximize their personalities. And that walking the line is much easier said than done. Couple buddies and myself did a sports pod 3-3.5 years ago, did about 50+ 45-60min episodes and we still couldn't get it consistent. Sometimes it went perfectly, but most times 1 of the guys would be drunk or too stoned to joke in the structure of the pod, but when me and the other guy tried doing a few episodes without him it felt really stale and boring. Just sports takes and numbers you could probably find on any other show lol

I can kind of get the point with the backwards hat. It's not a personal turnoff for me with a QB, but just like we'd judge other professions for wearing or doing certain things (ex. Surgeon walking in in gym shorts and a backwards hat) there are certain things a QB does in a press conference that can leave a negative impression. I think Colin is a weirdo for caring about the backwards hat for a QB, cause even though they represent a franchise its really not that serious.

Nick apparently saw a 15 second clip from a Seinfeld interview and completely missed the context. All the best comedy TV shows are ones that started many years ago (Curb, Always Sunny, South Park). Seinfeld says shows like Curb have been grandfathered in and are allowed to get away with things that a new TV show couldn't. And he doesn't say that stand-up is hurting, but rather that the dearth of new funny TV shows is helping stand-up comedy.
