  • A montage of some of the memorials to Operation Overlord that I visited in August 2024. Represented here are, in order, Pointe du Hoc, which was considered instrumental in the success of the invasion. The less visited (I didn't even know it existed before then) German cemetery at La Cambe. There are 20,000+ soldiers buried there, compared to 9,000+ at the American cemetery. The British Normandy Memorial, which was featuring an exhibit called Standing with Giants with 1,475 silhouettes of British soldiers, sailors and aviators representing the total number of British military who lost their lives on D-Day, 6 June 1944. Lastly, I visited the Normandy American Cemetery. A place I have wanted to visit for years, both as an American and as a former Navy Corpsman.
This is my first attempt at film making, so please forgive any amateurish mistakes. I am a photographer by trade and not a filmmaker. All that said, I admit to crying, while being there and even watching this and reliving it. I hope it makes you think of all that sacrificed everything for what they believed in.
Everything was filmed on my iPhone 15pro using a mixture of the Blackmagic film app and the new Finalcut app. Edited on Davinci Resolve 19 studio.
