- When you experience an unusual health symptom, chances are that you’ll Google what it means before you visit the doctor. When asked where they get their health information, 26% of the public favored Google’s top results. Sure, this might be more convenient than scheduling a doctor’s appointment. Sometimes we do this because we’re looking for peace of mind that our symptoms aren't serious.

But unfortunately, the results are usually more serious than we’d like to see. There’s a reason that there’s an ongoing joke that WebMD always lists the worst scenario. Any time you Google your symptoms, odds are that cancer is one of the results. These kinds of diagnoses cause so much stress that it can lead to negative consequences. Because of this, it’s better to see a doctor first instead of turning to the internet.
The first example happened when a woman was experiencing fatigue and decided to look up a remedy. The internet convinced her that she had a brain tumor, but her doctor wasn’t available for another week for an appointment. In that time, she became so worried that she couldn’t eat or sleep. When she went in for her visit, she provided a list of all the scans and blood tests she wanted. The doctor advised her against these since they were hasty and expensive decisions. But she was so convinced that she needed them. As it turns out, the patient didn’t have a brain tumor. Her blood work showed that she was slightly anemic which could have been detected without so many tests. The woman stressed so much over something that could be resolved with a simple iron supplement.
Another woman, Debbie, visited her doctor for a strange feeling in her stomach. She had an MRI test which showed unexplained spots on her liver. The doctor said they could be benign or malignant, and Debbie would need to see a specialist for further diagnosis. But between visits, she made the mistake of Googling what could be happening to her. The results showed that liver cancer could only be bad. This led to her believing that she was going to die and she had to do things while she still had time. She dedicated special days to spend with each of her children one-on-one. Thankfully, the findings from the specialist showed that the spots weren’t cancerous. Debbie’s constant worry over the online misdiagnosis had wasted so much of her energy. She now admits that she’ll stop Googling symptoms and instead see the doctors first.
The final scenario is from a 32-year-old named Mark. He started having lung pain which he immediately assumed was lung cancer. He said it became an obsession and he couldn’t think about anything else. He expected that he only had three months left to live. Mark went to his general practitioner who was positive that it wasn’t cancer. But this wasn’t enough to convince Mark. He returned several times, convincing the doctor that he needed hospital scans. Despite these expensive procedures, the doctor gave in. Sure enough, the scans showed that it wasn’t cancer. It became clear to Mark that he was suffering from health anxiety, not lung cancer.
Even though Googling symptoms can be more convenient than visiting a doctor, there are almost always serious results. Unfortunately, these cause patients to stress and convince themselves that they have a major disease. If they worry too much, they’ll start convincing themselves that they need expensive and invasive tests to confirm if they have the health condition. Looking up symptoms leads to health anxiety, which causes people to need excessive reassurance from doctors. But even then, they may still think they’re suffering from the condition. This can make them alter their daily habits, and the stress will only worsen their health. Because of this, it’s best to steer clear of Googling symptoms and instead see a doctor first.

How does this anxiety feel bro ? How long u took to back normal ? I wad worried continuous 4-5 days googling symptoms frequently . But now even after knowing about google , still I feel sometimes worried and anxoius and sometimes good . But Now I always wake up with having unwanted anxiety. Idk why ? 🙃🙂

Google has told me I've had brain cancer, oral cancer, stomach cancer, lymphoma, skin cancer, and liver cancer. That's like almost all the cancers, gotta catch em all. Why is it always f***ing cancer with Google?
According to google, I too got Skin Cancer, Blood Cancer, Testicular Cancer, Colon Cancer. I also got Brain tumor and Multiple Sclerosi

Another one could be this: sometimes they use Google images to search their symptoms and the images shown are much more extreme than what the patient has, giving that patient a false sense of security when they actually have something serious. That was me with my ITP.

I felt unwell for almost 3 weeks, googled told me I have chronic fatigue syndrome or hypoglycemia. Went to see my doctor, she said I had covid and my tiredness and diziness were due to low grade fever and low BP.
Run the tests and sent me to do some scans. The results showed I had covid with pneumonia on the right side.

Had swollen tonsils a few weeks ago. Google told me I had cancer. Went to the doctor, and it was just mild tonsilitis. If there's any plus side to googling symptoms it's that stupid people will be scared enough to go to the doctor, like they should have. Also they're hilarious

@@thechazz8080 hi there, I was diagnosed with occipital headache and anxiety… by the grace of Shiva and help of my doc I am doing quite well now. The headache need follow every six months and the anxiety is gone for now. Never ever google your symptoms its pathetic

I had lower back pain from 1.5 years according to google i had bone tumor but in mri it shows sacroilits inflammation of joints in autoimmune disorder
I had high lymphocytes percent which according to google was due to lymphoma( a form of cancer)
I had high esr which according to Google was due to colon cancer but It was due to sacroilits
I also have a lump in my buccal mucosa which according to google is mouth cancer and the thing is in age of 20 there are almost no cases of mouth cancer
I have rib pain which according to google is lung cancer
11 haemoglobin which due to leukemia according to Google or multiple myloma
I had met multiple doctors all have said it's nothing but I have done a lot of tests including MRI x-rays and blood tests
From 3 months I m not able to sleep eat or do anything properly
I will go after few weeks for another Blood test
I know I m normal but I may have mania
I have literally cried after listening to google and nothing showed on reports
Plzz Never search any symptom on Google
Just spend some bucks and visit to your doctor

@@shahriarhussain7859 bro I am still facing it, I have tried everything ,even to cure my Anxiety I have visited to doctor still it's not working, however researching from internet I came to know it's a mental disorder known as hyperchondira, everyday sometime I m out of this overthinking then it returns back and I got fear of death,I started noticing anything uncommon in my body and relate it to cancer,like I think I have tounge cancer because I found an abnormal bump on my tounge,from 4 days I have headache and I relate it to brain tumor, no energy left in me no dopamine to do anything, always thinking that I m gonna die from any fatal disease,and the worst is tha I can't share this to anyone people can't understand mental disorder as it is not visible, however i will not let you end this on negative perspective follow the give below tips which I am following
1-keep busy yourself in your work /study make routine and just be busy
2- make a social life,the more you are busy the more you are out of the Anxiety
3- believe that it's a phase of life,God has given you this mental disorder because he knew that you can overcome this
4- spend more time with family
5- listen Kr$na rapper (or any other thing of your hobby)
And the last but the most important,spend time in worshiping God saying that you believe in them they never let you down (Hanuman ji is my best friend 😀 after this disorder)

i am experiencing restless leg syndrome so i contacted my doctor she said it could be iron deficiency anemia so she got my blood work tested i get results back on wednesday so while i’m waiting i decided to google causes of RLS and it said could be diet or could be colon cancer, parkinson’s and other life threatening illnesses now i’m sitting here worried that my results are going to be bad, please don’t do what i do and google stuff (i’m only 19)

ive got mild headaches that worsen at night, and of course google says i could have a brain tumor, i freaked out when hearing this, i have a doctors appointment for something that could possibly be the cause but who knows, my parents think its due to me being on a screen for hours a day and not getting enough sleep.

What videos and people like this don't understand, is that the reason some people Google in the first place, is because they can't see a doctor. For two years, I was misdiagnosed by the "experts", eventually, through hours of online research, I finally got to the bottom of my heath problems. I was super stressed and anxious all the time, but it was a case of having too.

I've had a lump on my chest (male) (16 years old) that is next to slightly ever so above my nipple and i'm really scared it's breast cancer and yes i have been googling things which i feel has been making obsessed because i'm so scared my soonest time i can to a doctor is on Wednesday (31st of May) to have it checked properly it's only been 3 days but it's been scaring me so much i feel sick i am obese or just under i'm not 100% sure but i saw that was a symptom i just really need help from someone or something that isn't just the same thing over and over again
I think you may have a pimple because breast cancer is found only in 1 male out of a 100 females so you probably don't and you're also young and many different skin conditions such as acne can look like a lump.

@@akgamer8466 When your vitreous body detaches, you may see those flashes of light. The symptoms may stop within some month and nothing may happen. It’s a bit common thing for old people. Vitreous detachment may not be serious but it can cause something serious like ratinal tear or ratinal detachment while detaching from the retina. The chance may not be very big but the chance do exist. So it’s better to have a check up, untill it’a too late to do. What’s your age? Myopia can also cause it in young people. I’m almost 18 years old and have myopia. I see floaters but no other symptom of it is visible. Floaters aren’t that serious usually. Flashes of light may be or may not be. But if you see any big shadow covering your vision, than it’s an emergency for sure.

I even read some studies about psychology students that learn about mental ilness and they identify with the disorders but many people say it's not possible to have mental illness hypochondria. However, I know that if I read about a mental ilness symptoms I will start thinking I have that and notice every little thing and associate it with some disorders.
@@Annie-fq5jp I believe it might be a result of overthinking or rumination. A video recommended that try disconnecting thoughts from yourself. To separate your thoughts from your personality as they are not the same thing. Hopefully I can stick to this and hopefully this helps ya!

Gone through the same thing. Had bad stomach pains for 2 days straight,had mental breakdowns that it was appendicitis because of Google,started thinking about what my family would become after my death and it turned out that is just my stomach ulcer acting up

Bro how much times it takes to recover from anxiety . I was anxious for entire 4-5 days but now even after knowing about google , i sometimes feel good and sometimes again worrying . And I also waking up with anxiety for some days .. idk why ?? Just hoping to be normal again … 🙂🙃
