    If you're like me then you probably applied to the TSA as a foot in the door to the Federal Government. 10 years ago the Federal hiring process was a mystery to me and everyone claims to have to magic formula. Stop paying people for useless advice or listening to those who have never been through the process. No one internally can get you hired to make any recommendations to get you "in". That's NOT how it works!!!!!!!
    Here I have explained my experience with the hiring process and what really happens during each step. I took me close to 2 years to get hired. I left in 2013 for a promotion to a different Federal agency. This job is whatever you want it to be. Its a career, retirement gig, or if you're me it's a foot in the door.
    I am using my channel to help those going through tough times during this recession with career advice and also talking about my own experiences from the 2008 recession and what I learned from them. I will also share stories of what i have experienced while holding my Federal jobs, especially at the TSA. I have a LOT of TSA stories, enough to cover 2 years worth of videos. I provide career advice for both private and public sector. I have been a career counselor and mentor for the last 5 years.
    If you want one-on-one career prep, resume help and interview prep then please reach out to me by email or post a comment on the video. I do not charge for my help. I am good at what I do and I don't have any interest in money.

      Effectively Answer all Interview Questions czcams.com/video/RQGf45oOlH4/video.html
      Types of Interview Questions with Examples
      czcams.com/video/ihr3skIZ1sQ/video.html
      In a next few weeks I'll be setting up a way to help people 1-on-1 with Federal job interview prep, resume writing and prep, and how to evaluate a Federal job posting and keyword evaluation.
      If you're interested in 1-on-1 help after you pass your CBT, let me know. I'll send you the details on how to get started.
      The types of questions on the CBT will be basic reading and writing, with the difficulty of an 8th grade final exam.
      The xray test is a different story. It tests color vision. To get an idea of what it will be like. go to Google and search "x-ray baggage screening images". Go through those images and try to identify the objects in the pictures. Those will be the same types of images you'll see on the xray portion of the CBT. I went in a took the test cold, back in 2009. There was no information on all this back then, especially no images on Google.

      I have applied to the FB group with both of my FB accounts.
      I completed the CBT, and filled out everything for the E-qip SF-86 and submitted it a few weeks ago but I haven't received any response about the background check. I'm wondering when they will start the investigation or if they already have.
      I'm still waiting for my airport assessment, and I even completed a second application to a different airport nearby to hopefully increase the odds of being selected soon for airport assessment.
      How would I know when the background investigation is complete? Does every applicant get interviewed by a investigator? Do they send a email to inform me that the investigation is complete?

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  Před 2 lety +5

      I worked at the Atlanta airport and my starting was $15.50. TSA and FAA are on an antiquated pay scale, so the pay is a lot different from the rest of the government. I left to a different agency with in DHS back in 2013, so I'm no longer on the TSA pay scale.
      If you want to ball park what you will be paid. Look up the GS-5 pay in your locality. Then subtract 10k off that. If you're part-time, after you subtract 10k, then you divide by 2.
      I never intended on staying at TSA passed 2 years. So I didn't care much about pay. I just needed a foot-in-the-door.

Being unable to contact HRAceess is a new problem that's surfaced during COVID. Right now you guys are going through the growing pains of the agency HR process having to adapt to new processes.
      The good news is since you're military I'm sure you needed a security clearance for your MOS and already completed a SF-86. So your information should already be saved in the database and all you'd need to do it just update.
      This is the only part of the process where my advice is limited.
      If you haven't subscribed go ahead and do . I'm working on getting more videos edited and uploaded.

    Hi! Thank you for the detailed video. I have a question. I took the new CBT exam and never got the results from them. A few days later I got an email with the conditional offer. I accepted and filled out a bunch of forms with deadline dates. At this point the E-Qip is the only form pending but I have not been given the code for it. I had applied for the TSA position 2 years and a code was provided to me but that has long expired. I reached out to the helpdesk email but response since a week. Any advice for me. I read on various forums that people reach out to the airports with similar issues but i have no contact with any airport staff that can help me with logging into the E-QiP website.

I have tried calling every number and emailing and I haven’t gotten a response or they don’t have the info that I need. Can you please help me

      Look in your junk mail search "registration code". I spoke to about 3 prior people who found it there. If you join the Facebook group, there's prior there that had the same problem that can help you through it. Libk in the description.

    I just passed my CBT today and accepted the contingent officer. the next step says selective service but it doesn’t give me instructions on what to do for that step. the step after that says airport assessment. Am i just supposed to be waiting it out ? it hasn’t given me any forms to fill out

      Your going to be emailed forms to complete. You'll also get a link and access code in 2 separate emails to begin completing your SF-86. You'll get either an email or phone call to schedule your airport assessment.

      Don’t put all you hopes into one job if you’re qualified for others that pay more. The speed of you hiring will depend on how fast your airport is hiring.
      Larger airports = higher turnover = faster hiring

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  Před 3 lety

      No this is not an automatic disqualifying factor. The investigator will look at your entire financial history to gauge your level of financial irresponsibility. The investigator will be asking you a LOT of invasive questions because they want to make sure your not a liability to national security.

    Hi I recently applied to a tsa position. It said they were accepting applications until 6/15. Does that mean they had positions available? Or would it be the same process?

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Alexa,
      TSA leaves the posting open till the due date. Whoever applies will start going through the process after the posting closes. There will always be positions available because turn over numbers are astronomical. The job posting closing date is just a way to control the flood gates and keep an adequate supply of candidates in the hiring pipeline. Hiring is a year round process. You can always apply to one airport and then contact HRAccess and tell them to transfer your application to another airport. So don't worry about dates.
      Ex. If there's 50 spots open, and 150 apply. Then all 150 will go through the hiring process. You will all sit in the "Ready Pool" until it's your turn to get a start date as more openings come up. Then rinse and repeat.
      If you haven't subscribed yet go ahead and do so. I'll have more videos coming. Also I made a facebook group for people in the Federal employment hiring process to compares notes and ask questions. Link is below.

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  Před 2 lety

      When you start you SF-86 process you will be required to provide you selective service number to verify that you registered. Unless you're specifically being asked for a specific form, don't worry about it.
      Request access to the facebook and you can ask the community there. But I don't remember completing the Form 1157.
      You can use this link the also verify your registration and print a card. Just keep the link for future reference. www.sss.gov/verify/

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  Před 2 lety +1

      There should be a phone number on your candidate dashboard. You call that number and tell them what's going on. From what I know now they are only accepting emails. You should see that on the candidate dashboard as well. The link to the fb group is in the description box. You can also ask the group. This happens pretty often.

      You won’t be able to take you kids to FLETC unless you have some one to live off campus with them. I don’t think home airport training is an option anymore. Does the TSA conduct a "home interview" like some law enforcement agencies do. Where they come to your house and want to look at everything, including search your computer for anything unusual? I knew someone applying for a position in records and they showed up and asked to look around.
