Many years ago, I bought a very old Katana from the widow of a man at an estate sale. I gave $500 for it, a princely sum at the time. Once home with my acquisition, I took it apart to clean it and found it was signed. I worked with an old Japanese man at the time and asked him about the signature. He looked at the rub of the signature and grunted saying, it's a cursed blade and that I should get rid of it. But didn't tell me the name of the smith. I sent it to Japan to a polisher that I had worked with on other Katana restorations. He in turn passed the blade to another polisher because he told me he would not work on an accursed "Muramasa" blade. I got the sword back about 6 months later and it is absolutely beautiful. I also found a new polisher. Oddly according to the superstitions, it is supposed to whisper to its owner, cut you on its own accord and move around at night. Funny how these superstitions persist as it has done none of these things. But I treasure it for its history and beauty.
I had a katana signed Muramasa, Ise province. Possibly a hundred yrs old or less, probably signed in imitation of the smith. It had kizu or flaws, a tiny crack in the edge, but the tsuba was elegantly simple, in the 4 lobed melon outline, chiseled melon & leaves on one side, & exquisite tiny vines & a butterfly outlined in gold wire as thin as a hair, locked in place with thousands of tiny crosswise chisel marks.
I actually have a wakizashi made by the second Muramasa's apprentice Masatoshi.
How much did you pay for THAT?

Have you heard it talking to you at all? Don't go slashing up your neighbours if you can help it.
That sounds more like muramasa made high quality blades so many people bought them.
