    I am studying in the USA, in my lab when I told how old Tamil is all my colleagues were so keen to learn about the whole history and now they all greet me saying vanakkam. On top of that I made them eat vadai, Pongal, idly dosa etc. I guess open minded people will always seek truth.

Sad thing is now a days all our tamil greeting turned into English for example "Pongal wishes". I dont like this at all. Wishing somebody in tamil becoming out of fashion. We cant speak pure tamil like thiruvaluvar but can maintain our feel good speaking language of Tamil, is my opinion.

      @@parthipanselvaraj2629 This is the answer I had given for some claiming Sanskrit as the oldest language in another comments section.
      "It will only remain as a mantra language which no one can use for any practical purposes. People advocating Sanskrit are simply in awe of this artificially coded and mystified language out of fear of the unknown or expecting some imaginary prosperity. Every time you try to reason out with them you will be argued out quoting about some bizarre sound frequency working wonders for the users of the language. If that was the case all users should be nobel prize winners and geniuses. I too love the language, it's special turns and twists and some times the sweetness just like any other language for its novelty. It's use for liturgical purposes is like latin or Armenian for Christians. It should not be for creating fear because one cannot understand the mystery behind a particular God for which it is being used. Language should be for the public to easily understand and communicate daily, get much closer to God feelings, understand the preachings directly without any complicated interpreters and feel secure with God. Because God is the Mother and Father for all living beings. Sanskrit is very useful for the interpreter to feel elated and high".

    1. Just because Google states something, it doesn't mean that it is true.
    2. We shouldn't be bothered about white people looking down on our language. Back when they ruled India, they tried learning our language and literature to spread their religion. But they ended up realising how rich our language and our literature are and became proponents of our language instead (G.U. Pope, Veeramamunivar). While being proud of our language is important, what's more important is to learn our language and literature in depth. Recently, I have started studying Thirukkural even though my university course has nothing to do with Tamil; I have been astonished by how realistic and useful the teachings it provides are.
    3. The reason why Tamil is not used in Tamil Nadu like how Chinese and Korean has to do with the politics. First of all, those who rule Tamil Nadu aren't even ethnic Tamils, and they also hate Tamil language being given the pedestal. So they belittle the potential of our language (they say that learning Tamil has no use and that we should English instead) and legislatively remove the rights of our language (learning Tamil is not a must, etc.). Naturally, this impacts all Tamils and we end up being indifferent about our language.

      Let’s take two languages X and Y at time t0. Then at a later date through times t1-t5, we will have Xt1, Xt2, Xt3, Xt4 and Xt5 similarly, Yt1, Yt2, Yt3, Yt4 and Yt5. Now, which of these is oldest? Most would answer Xt0 and Yt0. But, in fact none exists other than Xt5 and Yt5. Since, languages are primarily spoken they don't exist beyond the point of utterance. Assume now, we have written records left for each of these, viz., Xt3, Xt4 and Xt5 but Yt4, and Yt5. Which of these is oldest? People would quip with Xt3. In fact, Xt3 wouldn't have come into existence without Xt0, Xt1, Xt2. Therefore, the answer is wrong. Hence we should say Xt3 and Yt4 were the earliest recorded stages of X and Y but not the oldest representations of X and Y. Logically, Xt5 and Yt5 are the continuities of Xt0 and Yt0 through ages. Neither of X and Y is older than the other. Ofcourse! It's lot more complex than this. The closeness between X0 and X3 than the closeness between Y0 and Y1. It gets even more complex. X0 not only creates X1 in T1, but also X1-1,X1-2 and so on,in the same T.X1-2 then to X2-2--1,X2-2--2etc.... Then X2-2--2 to X2-2--2---1,X2-2--2---2 etc.... So does Y0. You can call them different languages or different dialects. It's subjective. Things don't end here. X3-3--3---4 might influence X3-3--1---2 to create a new language (X3-3--3---4)(X3-3--1---2). But whether this newly created language be given an independent language status is subjective. It depends on the magnitude of influence. Just like there's magnitude of influence, there's magnitude of mutation too to pave the way for more vagueness.(Plot twist: The language X0 was P5-6--9---2----7-----12 and Y0 was P5-2--4---2----7-----1). Now I'd like to know which one is the oldest living language. ((X3-3--3---4)(Y3-3--1---2)3-3) ((X2-1--3)(X2-3--1)3-1--3). Or..((Y3-1--2---1)(Y3-3--1---2)3-2) ((X2-1--2)(X2-1--1)3-2--3)?????

    chinese, mandarin, thai, korean, japanese all other such languages are spoken by most of the people in respective country and probably the only language (may be theres two or little more) in their respective country, india has 17 official languages, so tamil has to compete languages within the india first , then only be recognised on other countries, besides, lack of innovation and major impact on scientific community hasnt happened even from india altogether not to mention not a single impact from tamilnadu. so naturally we lack any other modern impactful identity other than oldest 'living' language.

      Tamil is not the 'Oldest living language'.Let’s take two languages X and Y at time t0. @@Flying_Spaghetti_Monsterr A small correction bro.... where u missed was 👇
      Lets Take....
      Language 1 = A
      Language 2 = B
      Language 3 = C
      So.....
      BC2= CD × AC
      Adding the equations (1) and (2) we get,
      AB2 + BC2 = AD × AC + CD × AC
      AB2 + BC2 = AC (AD + CD)
      Since, AD + CD = AC
      AC2 = AB2 + BC2
      Therfore Tamil is the oldest language bro,, 🤗

    Sister,
    Dont fight over a language without knowing the full facts.
    Just by Google , it says Tamil us oldest doesn't mean anything.
    But, when you argue about it, then you need to have good archeological and linguistics evidence to suggest our theory.
    I believe Tamil is the oldest basede on my 30 years of past learnings.
    But to prove scientifically, it is difficult as the western education have created different theories over it.

This could be one of the reasons why our mother tongue might have sidelined

    Tamil is one of the oldest living languages in the world, alongside Chinese, Greek, Persian, and Basque. Old Hebrew lost its status as a spoken language to Aramaic after the Assyrian rule and was subsequently used only for liturgical purposes by Jews. During Jesus's time, people in Palestine spoke several dialects of Aramaic and Koine Greek. Modern Hebrew is a constructed language that incorporates elements of Old Hebrew, Aramaic, and Arabic, developed by Zionists in the last century. The ancient pronunciation system of Old Hebrew was also lost because settlers from Europe used German pronunciation for modern Hebrew instead of the Yemeni pronunciation system, which is considered more similar to Old Hebrew. Most other ancient languages are used only for religious, educational, or research purposes. However, our mother tongue, Tamil, is a classical living language that has been shown through archaeology to have existed in written form since the Sangam age, over 2,600 years ago. So It predates Ashoka brahmi script of North India by 3 centuries. Recent archaeological evidence suggests that the Sangam age, the golden age of Tamil literature, began around 2,900 years ago. As a spoken language, Tamil likely has an even older history, possibly dating back at least 4,000 years.

    highly debatable topic . since it is not in mobile , it does not mean it is not oldest . even UK ruling india has its influence to Indians to use English. we need to see the grammar of this instead adapting to newer tech. only scholars know this . Ofcorse greek lating and tamil are in same age language where tamil is still in use. this is the main catch.

    The oldest language is Sumerian. Don't take the "Google search result" as the ultimate one. Researchers should properly perform the research, and they should have published articles about their findings. Google gives the newspaper articles from the Times of India or something which need not be correct. Its Sumerian. Tamil dates back to 300 BC, Egyptian dates back to 2690 BC and Sumerian Dates back to 2900BC. Chinese dates back to 1250 BC

    The beauty, pride, and secret of tamil language is the spectacular tamil script. The Hebrew word for God is YAWEI that is tamil word yawai means everything or all things. The Hebrew prophet Isaiah contains tamil word aiyah means respected elder. Jesus is called messaiah also contains the word aiyah
