    Thanks for the video!
    Just installed i7-3740QM in a HP EliteBook 8470p.
    Super easy upgrade, I didn't even have to change BIOS settings or anything.
    Linux Mint simply picked up where I left off, and the laptop booted up so fast I first though the laptop was in sleep mode (not possible, since I unplugged the battery).
    The laptop already felt very snappy since I have replaced old mechanical drive with SSD and then upgraded RAM to 8GB. But now with CPU power doubled (according to benchmarks), this old machine received a new lease of life.

    For those trying to upgrade. Based on the documentation, the best CPU you can put into an HP 8460p is Intel Core i7-2860QM (4C/8T).
    I've managed to use it on my 8460p, together with an SSD (old HDD caddied) and 16GB of RAM.
    My laptop kicks the butt of up to 7th Gen i3s and i5s and even some i7s.

    • @Cobuman
      @Cobuman  Před 5 lety

      The main concern is BIOS support; however, I've had someone reply that it worked for them (using non-standard CPU) on this specific video in comments. It may work but I can only recommend what was originally sold as an option. If you go for it reuse the heatsink as there is no upgrade available. TDP refers to more power/heat compared to 35w as you know, so I would test the temps afterwards to be in safe range.
