  • Experiencing fear and anxiety may not be pleasant, but both are important emotions that drive human evolution. Our brains react to threats, preparing our bodies for what might lay ahead, in a way we learned how to thousands of years ago. But what’s the science behind this inherent reaction and are there consequences?

      It's on average more due to your parents than anything else. If they don't give you proper emotional regulation tools then yes...anxiety takes over. The issue is not that evolution is a problem...it's that our prefrontal cortexes have created an incredibly safe world in a very short period of time and our emotional regulation skills (learned not genetically inherited) have not kept pace.

    Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate and hate leads to the dark side

    • @herb_rolls3929
      @herb_rolls3929 Před 4 lety

      That's a very male version of that response. fear can create anger but that doesn't necessarily manifest as hate. Females felt fear and anger in evolution but didn't take it upon themselves to physically engage others because they couldn't compete. They used fear for survival, not hate. Women in domestic abuse situations also have huge amounts of fear, anger but in order to survive they normalize their trauma, even going out of their way to forgive abusers. Male society induced entitlement changes which way the brain accepts as a reasonable reaction to fear and anger.

    "Blood rushes to the extremities"...(we hope) and when it doesn't you get the result of the internalizing of emotions: hypertension, digestive problems, fibromyalgia...and other chronic conditions. When threatened, a response of fear/anxiety first then anger should follow. Anger should always be there and blood should rush to your extremities to fight or for flight. Regardless if you are in a grocery store or have a burglar in the house. If not, anxiety will rise, and then internalize. Your anger is your power. If you can learn to feel it and "regulate" it ,you will be fine, and live a low anxiety life.

    Whilst fear an Anxiety certainly may have been the driving force for our society to develop. I would give more credit to Laziness and ingenuity. the drive to make our lives easier. hence why in early societies we see a division of labor between men and women. Why we see cats and dogs adopted into our households. not only as pets, but as pest hunters too. cats that drive away birds and rats. while dogs drive away larger animals, and sometimes other people.
    As with everything, evolution is a bit more complicated. in terms of the issues of panic buying. That is a result of mistrust more so than anxiety. it is what happens when a nation is raised not trusting their government (sometimes with good reasons) and without any confidence in their own situation.
    The people who panic buy etc... are more likely to cause societal collapse. less likely to succeed in my view. in the long term anyway.
