Dr Jordan B Peterson and Dr. Yoram Hazony discuss the major problems plaguing today's youths, such as the resurgence of Marxism under the guise of woke morality, the creation of aimless social hierarchies that leave participants devoid of meaning, and the complete lack of respect for adverse thinking that has lead to the deterioration of our foundational principles.
Dr. Yoram Hazony is an Israeli author, philosopher, political theorist, and Bible scholar. In 1994, Dr. Hazony founded the Shalem Center in Jerusalem, which became Shalem College in 2013. Being the first liberal arts college in Israel, it attracted widespread attention, followed by much acclaim as many of the country's renowned intellectuals joined its staff. Hazony has also served as director of the John Templeton Foundation's project in Jewish Philosophical Theology, as well as a member of the Israel Council for Higher Education committee. Dr. Hazony has published many books, his 2018 work, The Virtue of Nationalism, being awarded Conservative Book of the Year in 2019. He also maintains a regularly published blog, Jerusalem Letters, that explores the topics of philosophy, politics, Judaism, Israel, and higher education. Other writings by Dr. Hazony have been published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and American Affairs.

That sounds awesome! I am not saying this to discourage you but, make sure you find out what the senior sem classes are like so you can strategize about how you are going to deal with them before you get there. Senior seminars or the last class you take before you get your certification/Masters Degree tend to be where the worst of the gate-keeping BS is. That way, they can get a sensible person's money while still not allowing them to get their degree. It may also be a good idea to take a couple of good general philosophy classes early on. I didn't take one until my senior year and had been completely baffled in earlier classes by a deconstructionist English professor and I just thought that I was an idiot the whole time.

I have learned so much from this man without ever meeting him. Meeting him one day would be a very happy day for me. Thank you for all of your work, live long and prosper! I cannot imagine a world without you right now. Being completely on your own can generate depression incredibly easy. I started a get together with my friends once a week and also joined another get together with another group of friends on another weekly cycle. That was the key, being around friends. Conversing, laughing, telling stories, and generally fellow shipping twice a week helped me over that first year on my own. All of my friends have the same hobby as I do, old cars. All the structure in my life disappeared all the people that depended on me disappeared. There was no one to honor. I raised my kids in the 70’s & 80’s. I do recall the beginnings of that liberal philosophy of let your children be free . Personally I chose Adler’s method of raising children by logical consequences. It worked great for my family and all three children grew up to be happy and successful. An quick example of that method was, if a child took his tricycle in the street instead of staying in the driveway or sidewalk as instructed then you take the tricycle away for a short time. Never make punishment too long to where the child feels hopeless in ever getting his bike back. Time to a child is long.

    • @NotARussianDisinfoBot
      @NotARussianDisinfoBot Před rokem +2

I haven't watched the video yet, so I'm not sure what restoration you are referring to. But for almost two decades now, I've been of the opinion that the principles related to liberty needed to be restored. So much of what liberty depends on has been eroded from our society's knowledge base, to the point that in the last two years alone, liberty has been willingly sacrificed for "greater good" concepts. I believe that if the majority of western civilization actually understood our history, understood what liberty is and means, and understood how liberty came to be and mean what it does, we would be able to have it again. For instance, multiple critical thinkers and founding members of the United States made it clear that liberty was dependent on morality, and that no matter how much effort is put into the government not being exploitable, if the people are immoral, they will lose their liberty. Unfortunately, history is being revised continually, and the philosophers and heroes of the past are being torn down or phased out, and the knowledge that they had is being condemned and forgotten. So, now we find ourselves about to begin a civil war where neither side actually represents liberty for itself nor its "enemy." Therefore, it doesn't matter who wins, because liberty won't exist for either side when the smoke clears. It's a really dismal outlook, but I believe it is accurate. So now, the only hope we have as far as I can tell is if we have a sudden change of heart and the majority of us begin to value true morality, or if enough people learn to appreciate and understand liberty so that they can rebuild when the war is over.

I was talking with a couple of friends when a teenager tapped me on the shoulder. She gave me a hug and told me she wanted to say she loved me before she left.
Afterwards, my friend asked, "Is she your granddaughter?'
"No, last year she and I were getting coffee at the same time, and I thought she looked a little shy, so I introduced myself. Ever since, I've made it a point to notice her and greet her warmly by name. After a while she would greet me first and once we exchanged a hug."

Due to this i get depressed sometimes just from being alone, feeling way less than what could be.
That said, Dr Peterson you are an uplifting and hopeful voice in my life that i really didnt know i needed so badly.
Now i get up at 4 am (thanks Jocko) i do what workout and stretching i can and go to work at 6 delivering papers.
Man its not much but getting up, cleaning my room, and doing something has actually saved my life.

Even if I disagree on many topics with him, he never fails to amaze me with his humility. Very few people in this world have the amazing skill of Dr. Peterson to just listen to a differing point of view. And he doesn't do so in a perfunctory manner either. He listens, absorbs, and is so interested and keen to help his opponent convince him. And, if someone presents a well-rounded, fact-based, non-emotional argument to him, he opens up to a brand new idea right away. A remarkable thing to witness in this world of narcissistic public personalities.

The FAMILY, of course. If you cannot even say what a biological man and woman are, you are under that warfare. I loved Dr. Peterson's illumination of the Tower of Babel story at work here -- in that we don't even speak the same language as a result of attempting to build our own ideological and linguistic towers.

As 1 Corinthians 10:11 says, "Now these things happened to them (the early Jewish nation) as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come." It brought my family together more than anything ever has. It also made it obvious how individual atomization has been profoundly destructive to modern society.
I can’t begin to explain how much my perspective has shifted over the years. I still am a staunch classic liberal idealist, and my skepticism regarding conservatives has evolved over the years. It went from vitriol in my early teens, to skepticism in my late teens, to neutrality in my early 20s, to sympathy during the trump years. Now as a parent I am convinced that it’s an essential component of a functioning family and by extension society.
Liberalism and all great ideas, institutions, norms and discoveries cannot exist without a preserving impulse. The greatest values of conservatism are its pragmatism, preservation of tradition, communal focus, and the communication of a cultural historical lineage.

I was raised by parents that always said "whatever makes you happy". I was a pretty happy self described "liberal" from the 80s through around 2015. I have come to question what that word now means in todays culture. I am not conservative...but what does one that used to define themselves as a liberal now define themselves? I have very little tolerance for wokeism. As a liberal it was always VITALLY IMPORTANT that being a liberal means "being cool". Being "cool" meant you dont' tell other people what to do or how to live or what to say or not say and censorship and religion and overly legalistic systems become intolerable as they repress individual expression... which for a liberal USED TO BE the holy grail. Indivuals over groups. Individual expression over conformtity or collectivism. The "woke" mentality is not about live and let live AT ALL. Its very much a secularized version of puritanical behavior where they demand a kind of conformity to an orthodoxy that makes them somehow more virtuous or "good" and anyone that even questions what they think or say is considered "bad". Just as puritans ran to claim someone who was a little TOO independent in how they spoke or behaved as a "witch"...anyone who even questions one bullet point of the woke agenda is immediately labelled a "racist" even if they are black or a "homophone" even if they are gay. Its a kind of religious fundamentalism that somehow developed without any cohesive religious text. Whatever these people want to label themselves I really dont care...but to call themselves "a liberal" completely turns any definition of liberalism from the 20th century on its head. There is NOTHING live and let live about these people. They seek you out to cram their morality down your throat and call you names if you don't immediately agree with every insane thing they say. They are even more abhorrent than the most vehement christian fundamentalist I would encounter in the 80s. Completely unable to handle the idea of free and autonomous thinking and self expression. They only ALLOW freedom as long as it agrees with their own beliefs and interpretations of the world.

I encourage you to keep un-woking yourself and help those around you do the same.

Respectfully I would have to say I disagree, presuming I am correct in my conclusion(s) in regards to the unspoken insinuation/your meaning behind recommending Ayn Rand to the OP- that as such being that there is a/are parallel(s), as well as a correlation or coming recurring theme between both said persons/works. Certainly there are commonalities and loose and broadly generalized similarities- but ultimately (at least in my opinion), they are of two vastly different belief structures and ideologies, holding very different principles and values as the ultimate/supreme- and thus, their motivations and goals are completely different- and as a result their attitudes, personalities and outlooks are dramatically different and/or varied. Ayn Rand was very secularized in that she didn't believe in God or deity/theology- not in any instance that it weakened that idolatrous pedestal she put the businessman/productivity creator/money man that was her ultimate person, structure(s), goal(s) and ultimate virtue(s) and aspiration(s) as a result of that value system/prioritization of what matters most in society)life.
If you read Atlas Shrugged- completely front to back all the way through in a short time frame so as to digest it all in a continual linear chain of events of a larger story/odyssey- the deistic way she worships and creams herself for the boss the job creator as if he/she is God and the only just and right person, as well as the one that gets her legs(the characters', most probably symbolic of what she feels- she ultimately confirms just such a thing in later editions forward/afterwards I can't remember
Dr. Peterson isn't some type of Communist/Socialist in the traditional/routine sense, but he isn't a cold hearted capitalist unmindful and/or unconcerned with peoples' well being and the general welfare of the smaller/greater community and society as a whole.
      Least that's a part of my take(s).
      God Bless You/Everybody.

It’s all apart of the globalists elites plan their puppets are Klaus shwaub and Jobs and Harrari among others who they are well there’s allot of them most likely the usual shadow leaders like the Morgan’s Medici rockefellers and rothchilds and world leaders country’s over , I can’t name every group for sure the ability to hide is what gives them power . They want us chemically castrated so we can’t populate more and without testosterone we won’t have the energy or power to rise up like our ancestors with 10x test would have They want our moral grounding that took us so far erradicated and confused masked under wokness and pushed by their useful idiots the “extreme liberals “ who in the true terms are anything but liberal . And keep us distracted with tv and porn unlike our ancestors who had to stew in their thourghts among the company of friends , leading to them standing up. It’s just like the old Roman saying : “give them bread and games and they will ignore everything else we do” . The devil is in the detail . The world is moving towards feudalism and we are the serfs . The WEF openly talks and publishes its views about how “we will own nothing have no privacy and be happy”. These people have addresses .

There are so many gay adults that just want to function like a ‘normal’ person in this country. With patriotism and manners. We are not all the same nor here to destroy the moral fabric of the US.

    A few random thoughts:
    1. I've always thought that the marriage analogy is a great one, I'm glad that Dr. Hazony mentioned it. Imagine it as more than that, though: a household with parents and children. The parents might represent "opposites" of the political spectrum (a flawed concept to begin with), but what do the children represent?
    2. One of the rules at a prior workplace of mine was to *never* discuss politics. Not "do not insult one another in the act of debating political issues," the rule was simply not to discuss it at all. In what kind of society does that need to be a rule? These days, it's one in which the act of engaging in political discourse forces everybody into this mindset: "I must be right about every single detail discussed, I must never compromise, I must never admit my own faults or lack of knowledge, and I must win the debate in a crushing victory." In other words, most people demand to win in a political discussion in the same manner that they demand to "win" in many other areas of life - regardless of whether the victory is well-earned.
    3. Many of the problems facing Americans today (I can't speak for other cultures or societies) stem from the aforementioned mindset. They also originate from a lack of understanding of how the issues *actually impact the development of the society they are living in* and, shockingly enough, they even ignore how the issues affect those who are closest to them.
    4. An increasing abundance of laws and regulations is only necessary in a society that lacks the concept of respect (and many other virtues) and is not grounded in some kind of higher purpose. Hopefully this concept will take hold in western culture sometime soon, but I'm not holding my breath.
