  • Loading a harp in and out of a vehicle can be intimidating if you've never done it before. In this video, Jacquelines loads three different sized harps in and out of a mini van, showing various options for how to safely transport a harp in a vehicle. Throughout the video, she offers thoughts and tips while demonstrating the process.
This is the third video in a three-part series on moving harps.

Thanks for sharing! I have a Ford Transit 15 passenger van and have removed the last row middle 2 seats so I can fit lots of things in the back and between the aisle. I am hoping to be able to take my kids with me when I have the harp loaded, so the column approach seems to be the best option for me.
Im so nervous it will put too much strain on the harp's column since all of the weight is on it. I haven't been brave enough to try it yet, but seeing how easy you made it look, I'm going to try it!! Have you noticed any denting and / or issues since you've started loading this way?

I'm glad this was helpful for you! Actually, the column of the harp is really strong so there's no problem putting the weight on it. To avoid denting, I would be sure to use a column cover and you could also put some pillows, blankets or foam in the car so that the harp doesn't scrape along anything hard when loading or unloading. That will be great to have your kids and your harp in the car! Good luck!

This is hugely helpful! Thank you! Quick question: Do you think it would be possible to have one of the captain's chairs also up in the minivan third row when column loading the full-size pedal harp? (Trying to figure out if I can fit all my kids in the car with the harp too!)

I'm glad this was helpful! Yes, I think you could have a captain's chair in the third row without too much trouble. As long as you'd still be able to slide the harp up the middle, and have room for the base (which is the widest part), it should work just fine. Good luck - it can be tricky moving around harps and kids together!

Thank you so much for such detailed explanations. May I ask what minivan you own ?

You're welcome! I've had a few different minivans over the year - Toyota, Mazda, etc. Generally when buying a car, I measure everything and make sure that it will make a flat bed for my harp as a first step. Then when I've narrowed it down, I actually try putting my harp in and out of the car.
