Setting up a business in Thailand - if a foreigner, get a lawyer - SIAM Legal works well but there are others legal advisors; contracts need to be reviewed for Thai legality, Thai law is not the same as the country you could be coming from. If a US Citizen, you can set up a business under the Thai US Amenity agreement meaning you can own the company 100% with no Thai partner - as a note for this type of business, it's not a fast process, can take months to approve and generally requires more capital. Also keep in mind this type of company can't own any Thai property such as a house given it's not a Thai company - so don't think your going to open up this type of company, run it as paper then go out and purchase your retirement home - not going to happen. It is overall safer though and it's only available to US citizens since the 1970's.

I know it’s not possible for everyone but You don’t address the Amity Treaty. Guess you can’t cover everything. Very few Thai lawyers or accountants know about it at all.
Yes but there are a bunch of further restrictions that go along with that privilege. One Example, a treaty of amity company cannot own land. A “normal” limited liability company can. One day we will get into it for sure!

Yes you csn start a business. You do legally need a Thai partner and need to hire some Thai people. But otherwise, it is surprisingly similar to starting a business in your own country. Once you register the company and deal with the legal niceties (not difficult) your biggest problem is marketing, sales, finding staff etc.

Minimum 2 million Baht. That's the value of your shares. Not the money you have to have in your bank account.

Yes. So long as you meet the threshold of what a foreigner should pay themselves, then for sure you can. But a subsistence street food business will not qualify. You need to register the business, get the relevant food permits and you will be fine.

It does not take a long time for the visa. IF you are setting up a business, or a business is sponsoring you, then that process of setting up the business could take a week or two in and of itself. But once all the paperwork for the visa is ready it is not a long process.
