- My name is Chrome i have been living in y cargo van for 6 years now. I started this lifestyle BROKE and IN DEBT and after 11 months of living the van life i cleared my debt and started to put my life back together and build for a better future. I have turned my original van into a badass camper van that is lifted with all the toys. Over the years i went from being broke and stealth camping in the city and sleeping at walmarts... to now, living fulltime in a jacked up van and driving deep off-grid into the backcountry and living life in the dirt. WOW LIFE HAS CHANGED.

With the price of gas, it might be better financially to pay for a night in a campground with hookups. Then you can connect to shore power to top up all your batteries.
I think Chrome should get a generator, but if not at least get a 50 or 60 amp DC-DC charger. That way when wasting gas idling the engine, there will at least be an extra 50 or 60 amps going into the batteries, reducing charge time.

I think it’s a mistake not getting a gas generator,you waste a tremendous about of fuel idling your V8 you could run a generator the same amount of time as driving and idling and use 1/4 of the fuel minimum.

Ha ve you upgraded your alternator. OEM alternators generate enough power to keep the vehicle running. Vanlife requires an alternator upgrade. Not cheap but worth it.

As far as your battery problem goes, I have four vehicle batteries, no solar,and two battery packs and camp one night at a motel or a campground with shore power and just charge everything overnight. It works fine for me 🤗👍

You can get a Honda suitcase generator get the 2200w inverter and you could set up to plug into the 12v to your charge controller and charge ur system

I'm surprised you haven't figure out that yourself. Firstly install double alternators, secondly upgrade both alternators, and thirdly upgrade the batteries, maybe another 200Ah wont hurt

No, the earth is going through its cyclical seasonal change.
"Worse" condition would be smoke/fog.
Can you "plug in" at an RV park for one night to fill the batteries?
Get a better, or second, engine alternator, or dedicated generator. Before the 1960s, many/most cars had generators.
Suggest more and higher efficiency solar, with tilt ability, and/or portable panels.
Struggle through now.
Build out the AMBO better. Make the next north adventure in the AMBO.
I agree with your idea about making the next vehicle better. That's what I told him last year. I really hope he gets to working on that AMBO some more this winter and keeps all of these problems in consideration for future usage.

I have been having power issues myself. It was great in the Yukon this summer, but it has been declining and Starlink is a power pig. I have 300AH of lithium already. After 2.5yrs of vanlife, I’m getting a generator for the fall and winter so I can stay off the grid and still work using Starlink. I’m at 56.5% battery right now and I need to wok tomorrow so off I go down the road to Fraser Lake to get some more charge.

Ever thought about a small windmill. I have seen some that are designed to work in the wind and in running water. That would generate power overnight.

Great video bro. I don't know how many watts you can throw at those batteries but maybe an auxiliary alternator should be added to your system. For one it would give you more charging capability but also redundancy. I'm sure you have already thought about it. I need to get me a couple of your shirts. Love them!
