I don't really care about all the drama, I just really like the music. And when I was young it was fun to watch Perry strut around on stage as he was very Dynamic and had a lot of charisma along with his voice you just don't see that but once in a lifetime as far as I'm concerned

Besides having the most iconic recognizable voice in rock music, Steve Perry had this other extraordinary gift. He was able to identify melodies that would would turn into hit songs. John Waite obviously blew it when he heard the opening to Open Arms. Steve heard it and immediately saw a hit song.

IMO rather see him do that then the band play can get anyone to play those songs it's the voice that matters in this case.
Well, in retrospect I think Steve Perry was proven right in his sentiments that he didn't feel like he was really part of the band. I can understand his feelings there, and it would be even reinforced after the other band members made the decision to drop him and move on. In fact Neal, himself, stated that there was a band before Steve Perry. In Steve's mind, to some extent, he probably always felt like the new guy, even if he was instrumental in running things for a period of time.
I think it's easy to say Steve Perry was the real talent in song writing, but if that were true where has be been all these years. The band together with Perry had a magic neither side could replicate on their own. I would also bet that being famous for Perry wore him down being hassled all the time by people. Lose that freedom to just be a normal regular person end up isolating. Seemed like he just gave up on music after 2000 his come back in 2021-22 I think was for the fans I think he done with music.
Being in bands my whole life ( Not Nearly at this level) i understand the dynamics between band mates. Its a brotherhood. Anybody who has brothers know its Not Always good. You Love your bro but you mostly want to one up them or kill them! Jealousy sets in Always on the front man! They get All the attention. Being a bass player i Never wanted the spotlight but you cant help but envy it at times. Anyway i dont understand why they haven't gotten back to do a farewell. Unless Steve cant sing anymore. Then its understandable and i cant imagine age helps Such a Powerful Voice!! We always have the songs!!! Thank you Steve, Neil and the boys!! 🎸
Steve is Journey but take away Neil & the impact is tremendously reduced. Aside from Steve P. these guys are all masterful musicians! If it were all Steve Perry he would have becone world famous sooner than having to first link up with Journey before people got to really appreciate his voice and the high emotion he pushed it out with. I get exhausted watching Steve perform. Steve Smith's drumming alone is from another dimension!

(He worked nights) She drove her red T top Trans Am to Bloomington to go with me to the Journey 'Escape' tour. We drove around town with both tops down. We had the time of our lives that summer (Stone in Love)! He found out, threatened to kill me, they got divorced and she married a coworker that had a life to offer. By my sophomore year I had a new girlfriend. Good times! The sound track of my life, sad that today's kids don't get that experience.
The combination was Steve & Neal (you guys keep spelling it wrong) and then when you try and change that there is'nt the same magic.steve was drumming in a Porterville band before Journey so this pushed him to stardom seems was overwhelming for him.Neal I give props to because he is continuing the Journey legacy but I think Steve Perry should have gone on to tour w the Trial by Fire eventually but then again the frontiers tour could never be duplicated it was one of a kind.Augeri and Castronovo were good replacements I never saw Journey but once w Arnel &it was not anything like seeing the way the band was in the early days Arnel does a decent job though
Agree! But it was also Steve's song writing/producing that made them famous. (Song Writers Hall of Fame + R&R Hall of Fame) Although when John BonJovi named Perry "The Voice", and it stuck - to this day, didn't hurt. Few have that 7+ octave voice!

A ton of bands break up or musicians leave a band due to so many egos in one place and everything just combusts. It's a lot like a marriage and it isn't easy. A marriage is 2 people and a bands more than that. I'm sure there were a lot of other " head games" going on here besides their egos. We're just lucky we got to see them in their prime. I love Steve Perry but I'm disappointed in him saying that he never felt part of the band. For s bit it looks like he was running things and fired a couple of guys. We're all only human and shit happens. Just have to celebrate the good times

For me me Steve Perry ruined the band. Besides finding his vocals waaay too nasally, he “tamed” Schon’s guitar playing as well as Rollie’s keyboard playing and silenced Rollie’s vocals. Greg was the best vocalist Journey ever had. Perry’s a crooner not a rock vocalist and his schmaltzy style declawed the original Journey. I get they became very popular with Perry but, they ceased being a rock band and became a pop band. I’ve often wondered what would have happened if they would've released a live album as their fourth one. From what I’ve heard they were a great live band in those early days and had no trouble attracting a crowd. A live album might just have captured the true heart and soul of the band, better than a studio album and kickstarted record sales without selling their musical souls. It worked for the Allman Brothers Band. Their first two studio albums produced lack luster sales. They then released their live At Filmore East and their popularity exploded. They also didn’t have a true “frontman” with Greg Allman providing the lead vocals from behind his keyboards.

@@FitnessFactoryOutletQuakertown he still had an amazing voice with Trial by Fire . Also sounded well on his FTLOSM so what of it was a bit of a change . He was still better than most even the young ones .
