- Leon Edwards vs Colby Covington might’ve been a slower fight, but from a technical viewpoint it was fantastic. Leon shut Colby’s game down with a variety of fundamental techniques, ultimately retaining the UFC Welterweight Division Title. Let’s break it down.

Wow. Recreating elements of the fight on the mat and being able to talk through it without the footage directly infront of you is seriously impressive.
Definitely knows what he's talking about. Great video
Leon being able to get up in the way he does is very under appreciated so I’m glad you went though the technique of that
I'm surprised so few are talking about the stance switching. Which Colby for a moment in the post-fight conference admitted to confusing him a lot with his takedown offence (his only path to victory in reality). With Leons bigger frame, reach and way better distance management I think that completely negated Colbys rush in with an overhand and drop for the takedown approach. Then with his fast counters, Colby couldn't rush in without catching a hand so started backing up more naturally. Colby smiled at one of the early counters, so it hurt him for sure, and didn't want to engage with that anymore. With the leg chewed up he had no base to push forwards either.
Yvuu😮😮4😢 4e😮4 😢😢😮😮😮s😢5s❤❤
I think Leon’s take downs of Colby outshined the switch stance. I don’t mean his takedowns were actually better than his switch stance . . .but for shock value with the fans, takedowns from a British fighter against an American wrestler is memorable
3:53 Colby said he broke his foot in the first 30 seconds, I don't know how true that is
Leon starting the 1st round in Orthodox when Colby in the build up sounded like he prepared for Leon to stick to his usual Southpaw stance definitely caught him off guard 😂 it was almost like he thought he had answers to the exam until he realized he didn't read all the chapters in the course 😂
@@ItsameAlexColby always has an excuse bro
and that’s why leon edward’s has the most aesthetic physique in the universe
Best in the UFC
These videos are absolutely outstanding. Some of the best analysis out there, and explained so well that even people (like me) who don't train in MMA can enjoy them.
Well done to all involved.
Hes the best if you do train mma too. FACT. Non bias, funny and accurate .
@@thomashearne243yeah, Cory’s got a little bit of everything; intelligence, discipline, and a sense of humor
3:53 Colby said he broke his foot in the first 30 seconds, I don't know how true that is
Glad someone who understands the intricacies and can explain them well enough for a lament to understand
3:53 Colby said he broke his foot in the first 30 seconds, I don't know how true that is
colby looked like an old man with severe arthritis against leon 😂
3:53 Colby said he broke his foot in the first 30 seconds, I don't know how true that is
@@ItsameAlexOh so colby took Two L’z that night? Or was it three? lossing in front all his weak fans either way good to know 😂
@@lowkeyb8429 his weak fans can be counted on one hand, most of his fans are strong
@@ItsameAlex Y’all need to be strongest having to watch him lose a third time in a tittle fight. It’s over for yo boy. pack it up
This content is FUCKING AWESOME Cory. Thank you. Super technical and you explain it so well and like no other!!
Leon is truly disciplined with the basics. That drop step you talk about happens cuz he's just always light on his feet meaning he's always bouncing from his heels to the balls of his feet. Great video!!
Just found your CZcams channel.. you always seemed like a insightful und thoughful person, so I'm really interested in your analysis of things. Looking forward to more vids!
absolutely love these breakdowns bro, please keep this going!
Hi h h h h oh h cc c cc c cc c cvvvv
Content’s consistent and getting better and better, love to see it Cory 🤙🏽
This is dope! Love the insight and breakdown, more of this please 💪
These are cool little teach-ins explained really well. Cheers Cory.
Cory, great content bro!!
I like this! New sub from the UK. Straight to the point, knowledgeable insights from a great current fighter. Actually moving and showing us what he's talking about instead of sitting on a sofa spouting clickbait opinions. Good stuff Cory
Good to see you doing CZcams mr sandman 😎, these breakdowns are awesome man thank you
Great breakdown Cory! It’s very interesting to learn all the mechanics of what goes into fighting.
I’ve been a big fan for a long time now so always support you but these breakdown videos are class. As someone who doesn’t have much training in fighting you explain in a way that everyone can follow. You’ll be an amazing coach
Way to Go Cory👏👏 Great to see this addition to your fighter offerings ✔️💯🏆
Great to have your eye and expertise laid out like this in analysis for all of us to enjoy! You’re the man, lots of appreciation and respect your way!
These videos are my favourite thing to watch right now. Super knowledgeable
Great breakdown, Cory. Didn’t even realize you had a channel, but now I do, and you have a new subscriber. ✌️
Amazing Breakdown. Loving this!
Much Love Cory! You should have 0 issue growing this youtube channel of yours! Highly intelligent breakdowns for MMA fans who know nothing like myself. Thanks!
This is dope.. Love the insight, keep the content up 🔥
Really love your insights. Could listen all day
Love your breakdowns sandman!! Let's go brother!!!
I agree with his take on American wrestling style in mma. Leon and others have gotten so much better at being able to work their way back onto their feet. The sambo style translates better to mma. They are able to keep people down and able to G&P/submit their opponent more effectively.
Thanks for the video, Cory
Great video! Thanks!
It is great to have valuable technical insights from the fights. Very well explained. 🙏💪
You’re the man Cory! Hope Ufc has you fight for the title next because you deserve it!
You are really good at breaking fights down!!!❤
Great breakdown of the fight.
Thanks so much for the insights. Being able to see and understand these kinds of details makes watching the fights so much more interesting!
Easily the best breakdowns out there absolutely spot on
Keep the videos coming big dog good stuff super clean video
I enjoy your breakdowns! Thank you Cory
Phenomenal content. Your thinking process is very interesting
This was really cool. Phenomenal breakdown, great demonstration. Beautiful work much appreciated. Sandhagen needs more title fights !!!
Colby "Leon didn't break my foot by checking it, I broke my foot by kicking" Covington.
Great video. I enjoyed it as a fan of martial arts. Thanks for breaking down this technique.
Wow it's crazy Cory goes out of his way to give out info like this bravo dang
Thanks cory, great technical stuff
Love this Cory. Thanks man.
Cheers Cory great video !
Killer details!! More like this!
I think a key part of Leon's ability to standup is shown at 8:32 as well. Jack Slack mentioned it in his breakdown, but Leon slides his knee across Colby's belly and uses that to create distance and doesn't allow Colby to lay on him, as well. Overall his defensive grappling was super slick. He was active and constantly moving multiple places to push and not allow Colby to drop his weight and get control.
Leon is so good at framing off. Didn’t he almost take Diaz’s head off with an elbow out a clinch?
Leon’s technique is next level.
@@Lowdo1549 he'a a true martial artist, like Colby is too. glad he's the champ. Usman was a mid tier steroid wrestler that should've lost the first Colby fight. We got robbed of 3 years of a real champ.
@@wafflebotus both colby and kamaru have sloppy technique lol and it was a good stoppage. cope
@chka1043 no idiot, it was the liver kick in the 2nd that took Kamaru's wind. Usman got 2 minutes to rest. He should've lost then.
@@wafflebotusyour a clown. Usman had nevet popped and he beat Colby both times. Only race fans feel other wise. Get over it
Cody get your videos up sooner after the card you content is spot on something different breaking it down on the mat. Top work 👊🏻
These breakdowns are unique and excellent 👍
Matching outfits haha so good. matching the mats, too! Digging this channel 🔥🔥🔥
Nice one! Thanks for this. I Love hearing about the techniques that steer the fight. Far too many post fight videos from other 'content creators' have been focusing on "what's wrong with colby", it seems like they've overlooked Leon's solid performance.
Fantastic breakdown! Subscribed
please keep doing these. need more technical breakdowns from fighters themselves
Such a great and detailed breakdown, love it
Great analysis
amazing breakdown, subbed
Great video bro
I think Sandhagen has one of the highest fight IQ’s in the entire sport of MMA. He’s got that Might Mouse fight IQ flowing!
Very good style and very good break down , both of you will go down as goats for you’re divisions
Leon is a beautiful artistic fighter. It's not really going to be exciting. Probably barely broke a sweat beating Colby. Great Breakdown Cory. Cheers
I find them pretty exciting for the most part, I’m a Leon fan so it’s easier for me to be entertained. The Colby fight was the least entertaining fight I’ve seen from him, though. They’re both at fault but you can’t really blame Leon, he did what he had to and only a little bit more. Colby was very tentative and kept the fight pretty closed for the most part.
Yes! Love to see the content
Just found out you are doing breakdowns & youtubing ! Glad to see your fight IQ @ play ! Subbed!
Unreal content!
Colby was circling left heavy because he was terrified of Leons headkick 😂 swear he didn't want to end up like Usman in front of Trump (all respect Usman cause he's a killer) but that's exactly what it was, he fought a scared fight, he can make all the excuses in the world but the real truth is he was scared. Shouldn't of put all that pressure on himself. Btw I love your channel Corey and your fighting abilities are amazing, one of the absolute best in standup and dont worry we all notice how much better your grappling has gotten to.
Great breakdown that many don’t take into an account, it was fun to watch from my point of view since it was very technical from the champs side and also dominate
Class man big up cory
Appreciate you explaining things that fans see that aren't actually in the octagon. My perpespectice about a fight changes so much when I hear high IQ mma guys break it down (such as cory). Keep grinding cory. When we get to see him and omalley his channel is going to take off even more.
Great content
This video was super awesome.
I really enjoy this breakdouwn . I think you could be a high level mma coach. Im still learning after more than a decade being a mma fan. Keep up the good work coach
Super awesome video 🎉
damn your break downs are solid. glad i realized u had a channel shaggy
New subscriber! As a fan, I recognized your high fight IQ and thought the same things you said about Leon's mastery of fundamentals. You guys play jazz.
So good thank u bro
As per the other comments. Great content. First time I have found this channel. Take Care Be Well Gordon
Dope shit Cory
Sandhangen got a nice underhook. That and collar ties plus wrist control are very important
New sub! Great breakdown
awesome video turn the volume up
What a brilliant video
Excellent breakdown you’ve earned a sub from me
Hope to see you get the belt one day buddy, you are a real one
Next best mma CZcams in the next year or two.
His stance switching and effectiveness and efficiency on either side is actually a work of art.
Beautiful❤️🫶🙏god bless Cory and Leon🙌two amazing and talented warriors & elite striking technicians🐐s.
Thank you
When passion and knowledge collide ❤
Dope video bro
You're like the next generation Dominic Cruz without all the ego 🫀🫀🫀
Keep on going! You're one of my favorite fighters!
I loved your latest match! You did what you needed to do!
I was thinking; wouldn't you match up, like fight iq wise, with the Danaher squad?
Your striking is literally insane, if the ground game matches that I would be surprised if goat status isn't in your future!
Ah yes a CZcams station, love those
I’ve always loved the Sandman moniker it’s one of the best fighter nicknames right next to assassin baby it’s sad you haven’t been using it lately
A real breakdown from the most technical fighter in combat sports period
True student of the game. I feel Corey and Leon have a similar mindset about a technical approach to fighting. But Corey has a vicious streak that Leon lacks and is prepared to risk positions to damage whereas Leon will always favour staying safe, which has occasionally gotten him in trouble towards the end of fights.
Nice break down, world class trainer one day for sure. Very succinct
Hey Cory love your content. You should consider doing an interview with MMA GURU. If you do he will glaze you for the rest of his days and you’ll gain some new followers. All the best!
Ohh just ran into your channel, us serious MMA fans who stay away from the negativity will really appreciate your high IQ insight. Keep the content going. ✌🏽
This is an amazing breakdown. Gotta swap mics though, this one is not mixed well at all
Me and my friends met you at a slot machine last weekend. You were just chillin. Humble ass dude. True student of the game and its dope to see. Good luck w the future bro i feel a belt coming
I wouldn’t have guessed that he would be a gambling man
@@bigben42 he was just sitting not playin the machine
Love your content you are such a inspiration to so many. I’m 19 and want to train mma but their are no gyms in my area. Do you think I should just move to a area where their is a gym and just get a job to support my training and living conditions ? I can always come move to Colorado and train at your gym!
Buy a bag
Im 20 with quite a bit of experience, if u really wanna be a fighter, find someone better than you now and have them beat you up for a couple rounds. That'll show you what being a newbie to training is like. If you still love it then yeah man a coach is the only way you can grow
If there’s no explicitly MMA gym around find a Muay Thai, kickboxing, submission grappling, or boxing gym. It’ll give you the foundations for when you find an actual MMA gym down the line.
You train UFC bro?
Jerry this very bad advice because he can develop many bad habits not fighting in a gym with a train and 1 year of waiting to see if you love it so stupid in that you could have aleready had a amateur fight and grappling competion experience
