    Excellent video. Very well done. I like how you’ve made it relevant for all age groups.
    I’m one of your older viewers at age 62. I’m fortunate that I look relatively youthful-I’m in decent shape and my face isn’t showing its age too badly (this is mostly genetics… my dad always looked younger than his age too). However, I was always a very casual dresser: jeans & T-shirt, cargo shorts & sneakers, etc. I recently made a conscious decision to change my style and start dressing better, which is what led me to following your channel and others. I really like it now. It feels good to know I’m looking better and I can see positive reactions from people. I have had compliments, and I notice people treating me with more respect.

    I was initially against the looser clothing trend, but have since come to see that this look can be done well by a man in his 40s (as I am). I picked up some dark wash Levi’s 550s to experiment. I got them hemmed to no break and pair them with a slim/tailored button-down Oxford or T-shirt to create balance. This look is classic, modern, relaxed, and sharp all at once.

    3:18 I have to say I respectfully disagree with your point, yes jawlines are attractive especially at a low body fat percentage-

    As an older man, I concur on all your points, James. I have recommended your videos to my 20 year-old son because I believe he would identify with your excellent advice and mature demeanor. What he lacks most is confidence. I believe your videos could inspire him to elevate himself in terms of his appearance and help him develop his confidence and sense of style. He frequently approaches me seeking advice but your series will, I believe, reinforce the recommendations I give him. Thank you for your great effort and informative videos. As for more effective communication, I also agree that eliminating vulgar language from one’s vocabulary is essential. One factor that enhances your communication skill is the way you use your hands while speaking.

    In my youth I had the "problem" of looking younger than I actually was. I tried to compensate this by dressing classic. A funny episode was when I travelled the US for 3 weeks in -99 I carried trousers, jacket,shirt and ties with me. In Chicago ;staying in a hostel youth gathered at the entrance giggled when I got out dressed up and took a taxi to a Salsa venue. I did not know what to expect but to my surprise everybody were smartly dressed and I felt I was met with friendly respect. (I´m white european)

    What is your opinion on skin taper fades? My hair is very curly, so a side part or combed look does not particularly look good and if I grow it out, it looks too messy. I feel a more mature look is actually to go with a fade and keep the curls medium length and healthy on the top.

    I agree with the points you made. I'm only about 2 weeks into trying to become a gentlemen. Moreso like Henry Cavill. So I have 2 questions-
    1. Can a gentlemen have long hair? Like ponytail long hair?
    2. Could you make a video on how a gentlemen deals with anger? From both external and internal affairs?

    • @kirstenbakker839
      @kirstenbakker839 Před 22 dny

      Hi Alex,
      My opinion as a 37 year old European woman:
      1. Long hair is definitely not a part of the traditional gentleman aesthetic, and it is generally not so well accepted in gentlemanly circles, including certain lines of work. Some will argue that long hair ruins the gentleman's appearance completely, while others (like me) will appreciate it as a flamboyant touch or an expression of personal taste in the modern gentleman. So be prepared for mixed opinions!
      To keep it as gentlemanly as possible, your hair needs to look neat, clean and healthy at all times, so be prepared to spend time and money on daily styling and maintenance, regular trims, good quality shampoo, conditioner and styling products. Messy, dirty or unkept hair is very ungentlemanly.
      A simple sleek ponytail, bun or braid looks more polished than loose hair.
      However, your safest bet as an aspiring gentleman is still short hair.
      2. A gentleman does not react with emotion in return, but with a calm response in order to defuse the situation. A true gentleman has control over his emotions and will not be tempted to participate in emotional fights. He does not say offensive or hurtful things, he does not raise his voice.
      A gentleman is authentic, in being able to set aside his ego for a moment and trying to understand what upset the other person. Depending on what's appropriate for the situation, he is able to calmly but firmly disagree, set boundaries, show some empathy and understanding, or even apologise for his mistakes.
      This does not come easily to most people, and may require a fair amount of inner work and personal growth to develop your emotional intelligence (both inward and outward).
      Best of luck on your journey!

    • @kirstenbakker839
      @kirstenbakker839 Před 22 dny

      To add, In relation to appearing 'immature':
      1. Young men with long hair may give the impression that they have not yet moved passed their rebellious teenage years, therefore they may be perceived as more immature.
      2. Emotional reactiveness to anger comes across as immature. If you cannot think of an appropriate response, it may be better to say nothing and just let it be rather than to engage in a heated discussion.

      Interesting. I'm a woman with a 6ft 7" partner. I decided to learn traditional tailoring 10 years or so ago specifically to tailor most of his clothes including coats, jackets and trousers. I make all his shirts to a professional standard - he says it makes all the difference to have shirts that fit. Getting stylish good quality footwear is the problem, and very expensive if you want something other than trainers.

    Beards of the shorter lengths generally at just the point it transitions from sandpaper to soft are very good for aging yourself and actually emphasizes your jawline almost like makeup unlike longer lengths. Best achieved with weekly use of an electric razor. Definitely approve the toastmaster’s recommendation particularly because it has the side benefit that it looks nice on a resume especially for young guys trying to get their foot in the door with little experience.
