  • A talk by Kira Pollack, director of photography at Time. Pollack has worked with the world’s leading editorial photographers and photojournalists and was the driving force behind Time’s Emmy-winning Beyond 9/11 project. She established LightBox, Time’s photography website, in 2011 and Red Border Films, its documentary film unit, in 2013.

    If your photo has to deliver in 4 seconds it is saying something about a photograph’s depth.

    I don't understand the "learn to code" advice. No magazine editor needs to code. I did many years in magazine editing, and it required a knowledge of some software program (Quark, InDesign, etc.), but no one in editorial production ever did any kind of coding. Otherwise an excellent presentation, and I enjoyed to great images. Thanks.

    she cant answer difficult questions properly - lots of erms and aahs and stuttering - without journalism we wont see whats happening end of. you can say the same thing about a war photographer , about their safety etc.

    I'm 15 minutes into the video and so far all the photographers she's mentioned are male
