hii, I'm melon and I'm reacting to dragon ball z abridged for the first time. This is my DBZ abridged Reaction: Revenge of Cooler. DBZ was my first anime and holds and special place in my heart:) I already really love this abridged series and am so excited to go on my DBZ abridged reaction journey.

You need to exert Ki to fly, scouters track Ki, since Icarus actually uses his wings and doesn't use Ki that makes him undetectable by scouter
The scouters still detect life forms, just ones of a normal human or animal power level isn’t worth much attention.
They even state the reason why he should fly Icarus immediately before she asks about it xD

If I recall the actual film, gohan gave a tired Icarus a sense on the way back and he started Ki Flying with a actual neutral ki aura.

The Snickers reference in the fight was a mirror of the Kit Kat reference from episode 30's fight with Frieza
I don’t see anyone mentioning this yet, but that henchman from Space France is Jeice’s cousin (Jeice is red guy from the Ginyu Force). He mentions it as he dies at the end

When the movie first came out with a American rock soundtrack there was cool thing they did when Cooler and Goku went into the water to fight (at the point 12:55 was at), the music actually lowered a bit and then rose again when a blast was shot out of the water, lowered back down when the view went back to under the water and then rose back up when the fight went back out from under the water.
That toriyama joke hit different now 😢
Just to answer a couple of questions, the capital H is typically used when referring to God, the lots of shame comment was referring to letting Icarus fulfill his Maron fantasies, the permission to die comment was in reference to Bane from the Batman movie (hence the mask). Also not sure if someone’s answered this since you started reacting to the movies, but the whole reason why things look like they’re kinda ripping off the anime is mostly because the movies were made to promote the anime and manga at the time when they were airing. Like Lord Slug was the first half of the Freiza arch and Coolers movie was the 2nd half
Don't forget, the mask is also a TMNT reference. The original quote from Shredder is "Tonight I dine on turtle soup."
Oh man...between Cooler himself, his insane new transformation and demise, and the absolutely ballin' soundtrack, this movie has to be my favorite DBZ film behind Fusion Reborn. Give me more Cooler over Broly any day.
Coolers design looks so freaking cool man. The growth in size, the spiked head, back, and arms, the mask. So cool.
Brolys sound track was extremely hardcore idk what you're on about. To this day I've not heard anything better than ION's contributions.
However this did having Drowning Pool which is definitely a close second.

6:15 - The Harmony Gold dub of Dragon Ball had atrocious localization. It renamed a bunch of characters, including naming Korin as "Whiskers the Wonder Cat." There are a lot of those jokes throughout the Abridged movies (and some in the main series) referencing various horrible dubs (and there have been a lot), although they sail right over your head if you're not familiar with DB lore.
Seriously, the TFS staff are MAJOR Dragon Ball buffs. They know pretty much everything there is to know about the series, inside and out. It's *royally* impressive.
Remember back in the day when another Character ask him, if he can controlls go Super-Saiyan and he answered.. "It took a while but now i can turn it on when ever i want?".. Well even if that movie is non-canon that's probably it, why he struggled fighting Cooler in the first place.
In case anyone needs a reminder, Team Four Star absolutely hates Icarus. With this movie they obviously couldn’t remove him entirely, but making Goku eat Icarus at the end just shows how much they loathe that dragon. See also: Icarus being turned into dragon soup in “Lord Slug” and his decapitated head during Gohan’s drug trip in “The Dead Zone”.
And finally his bones at the end of the Hatchiyak TV special. They really despise that thing.

I don't think it was because they hate him, I think they said it became a running gag because they wanted Icarus to die in every movie to explain why he wasn't in the actual show
Cool fact for any Overlord fans: The voice of Cooler in this video also voices the main character, Momonga in Overlord. Remarkably sexy voice on that man.
Chris Guerrero.. he has a few roles but yeah, he has a very powerful voice.. it's impressive how he can go from his high, natural voice to his low, growl voice... much like how he has his ainz voice and his inner voice
the whiskers the magic cat line is a reference to one of the original dbz dubs that just... called korrin that.

In case it went over your head, the "Tonight I dine on monkey soup" line is a reference to a similar line. In the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon from the 80's, Shredder said, "Tonight I dine on turtle soup."

You should watch teenage mutant ninja turtles the 80s show, the 90s movie, the 2003 show, the 2012 show and rise of the ninja turtles

It's not about age actually. The tails just stopped growing because they were not longer relevant to the plot and we as the audience were never given an actual explanation until very recently. The game DBZ Kakarot has a subquest after the Namek saga about Gohan asking himself why his tail hasn't grow back yet, and after investigating he comes to the conclusion that as his power grew so much during Namek, his normal state surpassed the power he had the last time he used the Great Ape transformation and as such, his body saw the transformation (and by extension the tail) was unnecessary and that's why it didn't grow back.
So if you ever watch the English dub of Overlord, the guy who voices Cooler, Chris Guerrero, voice the main character in that show. He will also voice another character in the upcoming episodes of DBZA

“Grab a Snickers” is also a callback to when Goku fights Freeza as a Super Saiyan and says “I’m going to break you, like a Kitkat bar”. Because Freeza and Cooler are the same so Goku treats them the same lol

The most common theory why Goku fights without Super Saiyan for the most part in this movie is because it is an alternate universe where he defeated Freeza with the spirit bomb. He basically couldn't do it yet and had to unlock Super Saiyan here for the first time.
To be honest most DBZ films are remastered versions of the arcs they mimic, put at film length. I don't think you have to dig that deep to find reasons.

Tails grow back when the plot needs it. Not entirely true but they do grow back seemingly at random. Honestly its a wonder why Goku's never returned so it must have something to do with growing.
My head cannon is the tail will regrow as long as the saiyan is still growing

Even some of the jokes are a copy of Frieza's. Like for example Cooler says he'll dine on monkey soup, and Frieza says that Goku is super sayian soup when he plunges him into the lava. And when Goku goes super sayian he tells Frieza he'll break him like a kitkat bar, then tells Cooler that he should grab a snickers.

The movies have absolutely no continuity with one another or the overall story at large. Creative teams either didn't know Gohan lost his tail or just ignored it all the time.

In case you didn't get the Toriyama joke. Part of it is in episode 40 and the other is Toriyama means Mountain Bird. Or Tori (bird) Yama (mountain).
yeah and Goku didn't revive the bird with super saiyan energy, he simply gave it enough energy to fly. just like he did with Freeza.

All the movies take place in an alternate universe and also sayans regrow their tails at least once in their lives. Goku did, Gohan did, and Vegeta hasn’t yet.
I think it only regrows when you're a child. Once you're an adult and it's cut off, it doesn't grow back.

I think with the Super Saiyan thing, since this is basically placed right after Namek in the movie canon, Goku hasn't had time to hone the transformation like he did in the main series, hence why he doesnt just use it.

In previous videos the Apple joke was pointed out as well, as well as in the first Bardock movie with the people who could see the future. There are callbacks that won't happen for a long time, and by the time this one shows up Melon may have forgotten about it.

I LOVE Cooler as a character even though I have no good reason to, though tbh this abridged movie wasn't in my top favorites. I guess less funny jokes. But there were plenty of cool moments. Especially the setup for a joke with #16 later on.

Yep, that tail was cut off and by the DragonBall rule it should not have grew back ahah. They establish that once a Saiyan surpass the power of an Oozaru their tail doesn't grow back.
Sayian tells will keep growing back throughout their childhood
