Tarantino had an entire saga with the main character as a female kung fu superhero who is determined to get to Bill. And he did that in 2003 when no one was having a female take that kind of a lead. Lazy to say he has a thing against women, ridiculous actually. Jackie Brown was a badass female character as well.

I loved this movie so much, now my favorite Tarantino film, possibly my favorite film of all time, but for a lot of personal reasons. Having grown up in CA during that time, I went back to see it again the next day just because it took me back to that time so completely. It touched what I didn't realize was still such a raw nerve about those killings. Manson killed the hippie movement and hippie culture and turned a movement based on anti-war sentiment, peace and free love into something so horrific we had a hard time understanding it. His treatment of Tate at the end was so tender and beautiful that I cried at the end, even harder the second time. Tarantino allowed us to realize our collective fantasy ending to such an extent that both audiences applauded and laughed at the violence. It was one of those private "YES!" moments. What we would have wanted to do if we were there. I could watch this movie every day and never get tired of it. For me, it was perfection and I have even more respect and love for Tarantino.

Margot Robbie is undervalued. She sets up the pathos for Sharon Tate. She doesn't make Tate perfect. She has human quirks. (She snores. She likes to watch herself in movies. She has odd taste in men.) But you don't ever feel this person deserved a tragic fate. She is also the counterpoint to Cliff and Rick's flagging careers. She had opportunities to make it, while Cliff/Rick were running out of chances.

Noah Iellina I agree. Every Tarantino movie is slow and long throughout but there’s usually a big pop at the beginning of each of his movies (Inglorious Bastards, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction) that gets everybody’s attention. @Lamidemonami7891 Před 5 lety +1

I don’t think it’s as entertaining as some of his other long, slow films. Inglorious Basterds is my favorite of his films (and to me is a perfect example), and it’s slow and long, but with a complete purpose. Most of the scenes are building tension brilliantly throughout, and though the scenes are long, they don’t feel it. I’m not saying I feel negatively towards this film, but the slower scenes don’t feel like the build to anything. For instance the scene where Pitt walks into the house on the ranch, just to find the man laying there the exact same way everyone told him he would be... it builds tension the way a IB scene would, without any payoff. Not only is there no payoff, but there’s no reason for the tension to be there in the first place.

Keith MacDonald I liked the scene on the ranch because we didn’t know how it was gonna go down, in his other movies(like inglorious bastards) it’s obvious at a certain point during the intense scenes that is just gonna end with someone dying, but I understand ur point, Inglorious basterds is one of my fav Tarantino movies as well it’s awesome!

But like I said, for a first time watch it is tense and interesting how you’re never quite sure what’s going to happen

The only complaints these guys have with the movie revolve around the aspects of the movie that are either a) left purposefully ambiguous or b) rely on our preexisting knowledge of history. Neither of these complaints are valid in my mind. QT is not someone who panders to his audience. I know that nowadays audiences love to be spoon-fed everything but the best movies are the ones where the director lets the audience choose what happens (i.e., did Cliff kill his wife or not?). The tension which builds during the entire film revolves around our knowledge of the historical (and horrific) acts that happened to Sharon Tate and her guests at her Hollywood home. If you don't know what happened to Sharon Tate then you're probably too young to watch this movie because QT doesn't pander to his audiences and he's not one to give a history lesson. QT loves films and this is a movie for people who love films. This is why I love Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and why it's the movie that 2019 needed.

Brian Wilson really had no involvement with Manson--other than changing up the lyrics and tempo to a Manson song (giving writing credit to his brother Dennis Wilson). Dennis actually picked up two of the Manson girls and took them home--later that day the WHOLE family moved into his home! When Dennis and Manson had a falling out. After draining Dennis' bank account, stealing and hocking his gold records, and destroying his abode, Manson threatened Dennis by handing him a bullet. Dennis ran for his life. Melcher also ran for his life. Trust me, I've done my research.

The Bruce Lee stuff was amazing. That scene was incredible. Bruce Lee did self promote, and it worked to a large degree to build him as a legend. But realistically Cassius Clay (aka Muhammad Ali) would indeed have wiped the floor with him. Bruce and Cliff fight, each knocking the other on their bums. It was a respectful draw, and then you have comedy schtick with the car and Zoe Bell. Perfect. It advances the plot. Cliff is not the showman, but when the situation calls for it, he is capable and unafraid of violence.
We build up movie stars like invulnerable myths. Jean-Claude van Damme famously got his *** handed to him in a bar by bodyguard Barry Zito. Taking a little air out of Bruce Lee is not offensive. It's a comment on the Hollywood image and perhaps an alternative version.

An alternate ending I read would have worked well:
Brad Pitt’s character Cliff Booth does hear something going on in Tate’s home, he, his dog and Rick Dalton sneak into the Tate house to see what’s going on. While sneaking around they come across Bruce Lee who is hiding and preparing to attack the Manson family hippies. The hippies have got Sharron and her friends tied up. All three of them attack the hippies with a similar outcome to the movie.
In that way it would have tied the side character plots together a little better and the audience would understand that these hippies deserved what they got. An ass kicking from Bruce Lee and Cliff Booth plus a flame thrower wielding Rick Dalton.

I had a very interesting trip at the movies today. I went just got finished watching OAATH at my theater. Just as I was finishing purchasing my ticket the was a power surge. The brown out cut out power in every auditorium. Just when it was on the last 15 minutes of Brad Pitt going to town on Tex and Co. They had to give out re-admit passes. Once power was sustainable they had to rewind back to the said scene above. I didn't want to leave so I watched it again everything was cool until it happened again this time during the Lancer with the girl and leos dialogue scene. No sooner than 15 minutes the movie started right back up and I gotten two more re-admit passes. So it was a very interesting visit to the movies.

Brad and Leo both deserves nomination. Glad Leo finally has an Oscar but he did get it for the wrong film. Deserved it for so many others that came before but I hope both won for this film.

Did anyone pick up on the Inglorious Basterds reference? When they are narrating the Italian films Leo does when he says he was in the 007 knock off directed by ANTONIO MARGHERITI!!! The fake Itailian film maker Eli Roth was pretending to be at the end of Inglorious Basterds. I popped out loud and nobody in the theater knew what I was excited about or got it.

It actually wasn’t the house of Brian Wilson, but record producer Terry Melcher, who denied Manson a recording deal. Manson was introduced to Melcher by DENNIS Wilson, drummer of The Beach Boys and brother of Brian.

I have to agree with the middle guy. QT builds up this sinister air about the Family and threw it away with that slapstick parody ending .
