I think it's hilarious how many analysts mention how much Kirk gets hurt and misses games, then just ignore that and act all confused. For something that makes "zero sense" they really seem to pretty easily be able to make it make sense
if the Falcons are worried about his injuries, then what's the point of signing him? especially when this is a loaded QB class. they could've saved that money, spent on the defense, and still draft Penix. if you wanted a backup, draft someone in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round
But Kirk doesn't miss games. This is the 1st time he's been injured.
@kxngmuzikig2417 QBs should ONLY be drafted as backups. Idk why Green Bay seems to be the only place that understands that the QB position in the NFL is completely different from college, and drafting a guy who's literally only ever played against children and expecting him to start day 1 is a recipe for disaster. At least of a guy has to step up and take over after injury, he isn't burdened with the expectation of instant success. The Falcons are actually the only team that drafted a QB properly, and it'll work out in 4 years better than any of the other first rounders, who will either be backing up at that time being called a bust, or leading their teams to more top 10 picks.
@happysqWid The Packers got bailed out by Jodan Love, not betting on himself and signing a 1 year 13 million dollar extension last year. If he hadn't, they would've been forced to pick up a 5th year 20 million dollar option for a guy with 1 career start. If they didn't pick up the option, Love would've been a free agent after 2023, or they would've been forced to franchise him. The Packers got lucky that Love gave up his leverage.
@happysqWid The Packers got lucky with Rodgers still being on the board that late and got SUPER lucky with Love being good this year. in previous seasons, he didn't play half as good as he did this past season. there's no need to draft a QB in the 1st rd if you're looking for a backup. these teams are drafting so high for a reason. They have no quality QB in the 1st place, so why not let a rookie play and sharpen all of the edges. to think rookie QBs would only be backups is asinine and neanderthal logic

You are uninformed if you're saying Cousins is often injured. HE PLAYED 8 FULL CONSECUTIVE SEASONS SINCE BECOMING A STARTER WITHOUT BEING INJURED PRIOR TO THIS PAST YEAR. He missed 1 game due to COVID in 2020. You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

Kirk cousins is in his mid 30s coming off of a serious injury. The Falcons were justified to draft their quarterback of the future. If Cousins stinks up the place at least they’ll have a Plan B.

My son played flag football with Terry Fontenoits son here in New Orleans before he took the falcons GM job. He told me he has never seen a kid my sons age, he was 11 at the time, have an arm like my son. For that and causing drama with our most hated rival I thank him.

This way you get to spend all your money onto QB and not have any money for the future free agents (probably lose a couple players to free agency) and have none of the benefits of a rookie QB, like having money for free agents and keep from losing players in free agency. You get to have the worst of both worlds and then if you get really lucky the rookie turns out to be a good QB you get to jump to a new contact on high money ensuring another cycle of not getting free agents and losing more players who go to other teams. It’s diabolically evil in its genius. They will have the first pick in the draft 2026,27 and may be 28 then again in 31,32. The foresight is amazing. Its like an 8 year plan.

First Kirk is not often hurt, he has one serious injury in his career, and has otherwise been an Iron man. If you reframe to Kirk is coming off a serious injury this isnt that bad of a take.
Until you realize you need someone to back up your coming off injury free agent.
Also, Bo Nix got taken at 12...you are not getting Penix in the 20s. And if you think Penix is your guy because of his age and your current 2-3 year window because of the cousins contract you probaly cant wait just in case the vikes or broncos also want the most mature of the available QBs.

Everyone acts like Kirk is Tom Brady or Aaron rodgers he is not that good.
She's repeating what she heard others say. But Penix would have gone to the Raiders a few picks later. And the defense last year was actually highly ranked, not so good at certain times, but not "pourous" either.
The problem is the timing. Doesn’t make sense to draft an old rookie this early and make him sit behind the guy you just paid 180m. If they didn’t sign Kirk this would’ve been totally fine, but the Kirk addition makes this incredibly odd. Even if you love penix, they still need pass rush help. Their defense was solid last year, but they were 32nd in pass rush win rate which is horrendous.
