      Would like to see David Walsh or somebody else do a critical look at the doping (and other cheating) practiced by East Germany and the other Eastern Bloc countries (including China & North Korea) in the various international athletic competitions (including the Olympics). Maybe this has already been done.

    The information that you are asking for is very valuable information, and I don't believe it is published free anywhere or in a book. Yes, Lance was a fine triathlete when he was young and still is. He won a triathlon in San Diego last year too. You have to understand the difference between multi-day events like the TDF vs, single day races and the effects of EPO on each type. EPO is a much greater benefit in long stage races along with blood packing (transfusion of energized stored blood)

    Lance failed 4 drug tests in 1999 and the Tour as well as UCI looked the other way. Yet they got off Scott free. Why?
    Cheers

    In a one-day race, like the national championships 40k TT, EPO would not be much of an advantage, but in a TT, after 20 days of hard racing, EPO would help dramatically. Remember that a 40k TT is only a 45-50 minute event for the pro level cyclist. With proper preparation in training, the body can naturally be topped-up and ready to perform perfectly in an event like that without doping. But the doping allows for the athlete to recover faster from hard training before the event, which helps.

    The only reason Lance got cancer is because of all the doping he was doing. Blood transfusions and all the other steroids.

    • @wk633
      @wk633 Před 3 lety +1

      Considering how widespread doping was, and how few other riders got cancer, I'd say your statement is completely lacking in evidence.

    My dad told me years ago about doping in the TDF and how the cyclists were receiving clean blood transfusions, in the same way a methadone user has to give a urine sample obtained from someone only using the drug so they may continue using opiates....

    • @anthonyskata
      @anthonyskata Před 2 lety

      Kinda different. They do blood doping. They get bags of fresh blood and they will literally swap out their blood between races because the fresh blood carries oxygen better and thus allows them to race better. Tdf is multiple days so they're just exhausted by the end

  • @Synch9256
    @Synch9256 Před 11 lety +1

    How do you know everyone else was doping? That's a sweeping statement considering there's no proof that "everyone" was doping - whereas the proof about Armstrong is out there. It's also incredibly expensive to dope like he and his team did, most riders wouldn't have the funds to be able to do so. You need millions to carry out that sort of fraud. Even if "everyone" wanted to cheat.

    They have already explained exactly how Lance and his teammates were able to beat the tests and come out clean. Apparently, you missed this key piece of information. Maybe they don't broadcast it, to keep everyday cyclists from using the same method, since it really works. Did you ever consider that? Anyway, your answer is 'micro-doses'. For some reason micro-doses of EPO, increased the red blood cell count only slightly on a regular basis and they used blood thinning medicine to mask it.

    Europeans are not a unit made up with the same kind of people. We are a continent with more than 700 million people from all over the world situated in 50 different countries. It would be stupid to think all people thought the same, just like it would be stupid to generalise the American population. Keep that in mind, will you? As for Lance Armstrong, he would be more respected if he owned up, apologised and got on with his life, although I understand it will be very hard for him.

    Ok so they beat the tests with microdosing, can they ever tell us with numbers other than hematocrit levels ,what is the advantage of a doped rider like these guys training all year round on dope and vs a totally clean person.What would the best clean person do on a 40k tt vs the doped guy.What would lance have done clean I know he was a very good triathlete as a teenager, or was he doping as a teenager too.

    • @lewis809
      @lewis809 Před 3 lety +2

      I don’t think it’s that he was doping as they all were, more that he was a monster of a human. Harassing, bullying, arrogant yet somehow viewed in the eyes of the public as a hero. So he made himself the number 1 target. Had he just quietly doped and won his 7 TDFs, he might have got away with it.

      Some of the Nike's anti-doping ads with Lance Dopestrong:
      This is my body and I can do whatever I want to it. I can push it, and study it, tweak it, listen to it. Everybody wants to know what I'm on.
      Also:
      I'm on my bike, busting my ass six hours a day. What are you on?
      Me: he asked for it, and got busted. Soulless, ball-less bully trash.

    David Millar explains how they take EPO out of season in training to make sure the haematocrit level is below 50 come race day as there is no drug test for detecting EPO. Even Paul Kimmage's book explains how doping controls were dealt with although it is pretty much Pre-EPO
