How about you do the outside wiring mods to run the 65. iirc you just have to wire the input speed sensor to the ecu. Then with HP tuners do a transmission segment swap for a 65 and it should be good.
I helped a buddy do this swap. (I only did the tunning part). He did the install and the wiring. And as far as I recall, that was the only mod it needed. I think he may have gotten the pigtail from the donor truck. This was on a 01 tahoe.

I guess I got extremely lucky. I’m a diagnostic tech now but I’ve done everything over the years except for transmissions. I bought a camaro with a bad 4l60e and decided to rebuild it myself. It’s been going strong 6 years now. I used a lot of sonnax parts like the performance pack, pinless pistons, ceramic balls, transgo plate, and did some of the mods like the hole in the passage for using the overrun when not in overdrive. I really like the feel of the sonnax kit as it is tame unless you really get into the throttle.

You need to tear that transmission completely apart. It's just a waste of time if something else is broken in their, and all that clutch material that has gone around inside of it needs to be cleaned out. The sensor in the pump is an ISS sensor. Input speed sensor. The reluctor on the input shaft is what the ISS reads. You need to be careful when mixing pumps and different input shafts.

Dude I went to the same thing as you and after the first used transmission I bought for it once it blew I bought a brand new one and didn't have a problem after that and the best thing that you can do is buy your transmission at a transmission shop and don't go for any high performance s*** I made that mistake and got f***** years ago the best thing you can do is get a transmission to a trainee shop they give you a really good warranty and if you want it beefed up a little bit like the torque converter they can do that for you with actual genuine parts and that's exactly what I did to mine and it shifts smooth as butter and mine is cranking 345 horsepower after my upgrades in my dual exhaust it's a flowmaster FX Cat-Back exhaust system after I installed it several weeks later I replaced the rest of the exhaust everything except the headers those were replace five years ago when I first bought the truck so the only thing I did was had them taken off and had them all resealed mechanic said that was a real good idea to do that my mileage count on my is 121,000 miles exactly just turned over I would recommend if you have the money to get a new transmission because the headache is not worth it my friend that Camaro IROC is yours is a very nice car I had two of them myself in high school the only thing I didn't like about them they were really low to the ground and they would scrape on any type of speed bump that's one thing I hated about those cars but besides that those cars had a really really fast 305 I thought anyway but good luck with your transmission on Tahiti man. I would try a local tranny shop they could even fix your transmission that you have for probably peanuts but you seem like you're skill that mechanical things so if you want to save a buck do it yourself but remember you're going to go through the stress and the headaches of the transmission giving you problems left and right once my transmission gave me one issue the used one I fixed it took it out sold it and got a new transmission good luck man.

HEY don’t use that pump in your core transmission for the one in tahiti. 2009+ 4l60e’s have different style stator tubes to accommodate for an input speed sensor on the input shaft. The only way it would work is if you use the input drum AND the pump out of your core. Keep the ISS plugged into the pump and just leave it unplugged in your tranny. Also, not sure on Tahiti’s transmission but the pump cover may not work with each other, some covers have an o-ring gasket around the edge, others have a wedge seal that sits in the case.

Let me know if you run into anything once you install. I build over 10 4l60e’s a week. We have to mix and match parts all the time. I talked to a guy earlier that said he had a unit come back after 20,000 miles kind of similar to what your setup is going to be. The problem was unrelated to the case/valve body/pump being switched around. So it seems to hold up. Cooler line fitting holes are a little bit different connecting to the case.
