    you need to learn how to strap down your load. all of those straps on the outside of the rails is WRONG. i don't care how many of you dumbasses do it that way. it doesn't make it right. those trailers were designed a certain way for safety reasons. run the straps through the slots. that is what they are there for. if you rub up against something, you pop all of the straps, one right after another. live... learn... adapt. do better!!

      Not the best practice in general, but allowable if needed due to load dimensions. If you run up against something, you've got bigger problems than just damaging the straps.

      @@briansmyla8696 I have no choice, there is no rub rail on my trailer. Havent seen a western flatbed with a rub rail yet, but yes sometimes on a trailer with a rail you have no choice - Martin.

    This drama makes me so glad that I truck for the utility here in NorCal. I'm home every night with my wife and kids and I only have to go out of town when storm or fire damage happens. I haul and run heavy equipment and sand and gravel.

    Hello,
    I've watched a couple of your videos, beautiful truck. I had that same issue in Montana, I was over weight. Shipper refused to take a bundle or two off.
    When I told him to take the load off my truck, he refused and said, If I have to unload you im gonna charge you. Long story short I headed out empty.
    Im from Reno and will look forward to your videos. Stay safe and keep rollin.

      Thanks! I hear ya on that, I think he wanted his money from that load, even though he claimed he could find himself another truck I didn’t think so. The weight isn’t a problem but the ordeal of reloading that mess was and putting me even further behind from what I already was.

    Great way to handle that issue, most shippers are used to barking orders at drivers without argument. They need trucks as much as we need freight so you are right when you say there should be mutual respect and courtesy.

    Hey Martin, just a small tip for what it is worth, keep a bottle of soapy water in the truck so if you suspect a tire of having a slow leak you can squirt on tire and if it is leaking you should see bubbles, it's what I do and it has worked out great so far.

      I usually have one, couldn’t find it. Ended up leaving it at home. It stayed together till I got home and fixed it here.

      @@TruckingTogether What was it? Leaking valve stem? I've had a mystery slow leak like that once, turned out to just be bad Schrader valve core. Less than a dollar to fix.

      @@brnmcc01 I've had that happen several times. I've even had a bead not fully set because the tire guy didn't use enough air to blow it on and within I would say half a day I lost 60psi.

    I left a shipper when they had a woman who was as wide as she was tall, in a white lab coat try to take my temperature for a coil in Malvern, Arkansas. I told them she is not pointing a laser gun in my face, we can use my old school thermometer, and they said they had to use their thermometer or I couldn't haul for them. So I left. Never been back. No regrets.

    I have crossfire on mine and they are very reasonable and you can keep equal air to both tires and visual for air pressure.

      @@TruckingTogether They work pretty good as long as on level ground. Had one on a reefer trailer back in about 2000-2001. I think the trailer IIRC was a Wabash.

    We buy a lot of poles out of this mill. I’ve heard a lot of truckers have the same attitude experience from there. If you ever want to bring a load to upstate NY that would be great!!!

    Martin I used to tell 100 gallons of fuel and 1 tire to haul extra weight or extra stop....... the conversation was usually pretty short

    I've been to that place before and they don't use dunnage on the top bundles. The receiver had a hell of a time getting the top bundles off. Had to try and get chains around it.

    Hey Alice! Hate sitting in front of the computer since 7am until your eyes burn? No matter how fast you dial, the load is gone? After a few loads in the morning, nothing? You may have seen the future. In a declining market with too many trucks and too many desperate folks who don't know how to run a calculator it doesn't get any better. Maybe time to put a little thought into leasing on to a reputable carrier ( like Mercer, etal ) with a broad customer base of contracted freight for the coming inevitable lean times. Only you know your situation but don't forget to look down the road and not be the one left standing without a chair. Just saying, and please don't shoot the messenger.       Thanks, Mercer doesn’t allow Lease on from California last I heard do to the AB-5 law. We’re happy running your freight under our signs though, it’s who we mostly haul for.

    If you ever get stuck looking for a load out of the Spokane or Post Falls ID area there's usually plywood loads out of Sandpoint ID. Unsure of what the rates are though. Stay safe.

      Hey look at that Tag from the Customs inspector it's 9 months old.
      I see the lids opening
      The load got wet already.
      I called the boss and told him look this load is a claim waiting to happen and they're going to put the claim right on you I told him the best thing to do is do not pick this load up because the shipper would not sign the bill that I wrote stating the condition of the load. Then one smart guy went and said you can't take pictures of the load that's illegal!!!

    hey martin im sure you already know but youre sposed to have your straps inside of the rub rail. with DOT in general having a woody tryin put truckers outta bidness you might want to sacrifice the ten minutes to put them inside.

      @@TruckingTogether i stand corrected. yep forgot some people had those wacky trailers that just have stake pocket holes without a substantial rub rail. almost looks like a curtainside or conestoga trailer without either kit :) keep truckin dude

      Style of trailer you can't do it . The floor and rails are 1 unit with the holes machined in

      @@kalebsut Yeah or one of those trailers you can set up to be a covered wagon. Theres quite a few covered wagons here in the midwest where I am, carrying steel coils around to the Michigan car plants etc.

    Don't blame you. No sense in running heavy. When I was over and the shipper asked if it was okay, I always gave the same answer. I'll do it, $1/mile over the eighty, payable in cash, right now. Nobody ever took me up on it.
    I'll dodge the scale, if you pay me enough. Only had one overweight ticket, and I was good on gross, heavy on an axle. Couldn't slide the tandem enough to get it, so I had to brake slide it.

      @@TruckingTogether Haha, nice. But at $5 a gallon for fuel, and all the hills out that way, I also wouldn't have any of that... Up in BC you can scale 88,000 with a 5 axle, max load is 40 metric tons gross. But they don't allow spread axle I think. So some people have trailers with a separate slider to close up the spread to be legal in Canada and PNW.

    thats funny i read a comment about tieing your load properly i thought the same thing at first then noticed no rub- rail. I prefer flatbedding love it I drove for COTC was wondering is it hard for a flatbed O/O

      It’s not bad, just gotta keep grinding. I think the parts shortage is more of an issue right now. I’m waiting a few days for a air compressor or I’d be on a load to Texas on Wednesday.

    Funny looks like the timber under those posts is round hope if that the case they do not roll around under the poles carted a lot of treated post for vineyards always used bolosters to hold them and chains and binders .

      They were round posts, they stayed on just fine. Not my preferred choice of dunnage but it’s what they provided. Chains on this stuff would be constant tightening, besides the fact they wouldn’t let anyone use a chain on it, straps for this mess was the only way to go as it kept better tension when the strap stretched a little.

    Reserve St. (US93) in Missoula is always bad these days. Doesn’t matter if you’re NB or SB. They overbuilt that whole corridor and there’s no way in or out except Reserve there for everything on the west side of Reserve, and for trucks you’re basically stuck to Reserve too.

    If you cant find the leak, take off the tire and check the rim for a crack.
    Had a 17.5 rim which I thought would never be possible and sure enough...hairline crack.

    Good for you, I did that at US Steel guy refused to load me, I said ok started to get my coil racks and lumber together he said what are you doing I said you won't load me so I am going to find another load, he says you can't do that I said watch me, I said you tell your boss why I left. Truckers get treat like shit.

      The one in Gary? I got banned for 30 days out of that one for some BS about 20 years ago. I hate US steel!
      Atlas tube in Chicago sucks too! I got there and they told me it would be a few hours. After couple hours called broker and told him I’m not sitting here any longer, told the shipping office too and left, found a different load.. 2 days go by, I’m not even kidding 2 days!! Atlas calls and says they’re ready for me to pull in and get loaded 😂😂😂😂

      From my personal experience, a lot of these little rinkadink businesses are ran like shit with no communication between their office and their shipping docks. Their employees are paid $12/hr and nobody gives a shit.

    watch-out driving in Oregon and WA with your straps on the outside of the rub rails... they will pul you in the scale house. Your straps are supposed to be inside those, the idea is, if you rub the trailers on something it does not cut the straps. Also you need a fuel tax permit to run in Oregon. they don't play the ifta game. It's a $500 ticket if you don't have one. don't ask how I know.... lol

      trailer doesn’t have rub rails - Western Trailers don’t come with them from the manufacturer

      There is no law saying you need to have straps inside rub rails, besides who ever told you this is telling you a tale. Most trailers that originated in the NW do not even have a rub rail, same as my western trailer, which does not have a rub rail, so that being said. Please tell me how I’m supposed to run straps inside the rail, when I do not have one??- Martin.

      Fontaine revolution were the 1st flatbed I hauled with that had that style of rails. Hauled alot of drywall with them

    Just a suggestion I see another owner operator that uses Truck Smarter for a load board and it shows a map to show you how far you are from the pickup point. Just a suggestion Alice.

    LoL ! i ve loaded many lumber loads but never round one ! LoL ! Lumber on a super B-train ! we call it super because the lead has 3 axles and the pup got 2 axles ! A regular B-train has 2 axles on the lead ! So i can put an average of 90,000 lbs + Canada provinces ave different weight limits ! the load on my logo is steel pipes ! took the picture after tarping it ! 4 tarps that was back in early 90s ! that was 80,000 lbs load ! well ! i m texting while listening ! I love trailers with tire air flow on all tires ! i don t know how we call that system ! if a tire is low there s a white light on the front driver s side of trailer going on ! I never paid attention on your videos if you hauled those ? i m guessing yes ! LoL

      Steel pipe? Yes I’ve hauled it. That looks awesome, B-trains are cool. I ran them in Michigan running steel, 8 axle set up. Tandem and a 9’ spread on pup, then quad and 9’ spread on lead. Tandem 9 quad 9 is what they were called.

      @@TruckingTogether Hi ! yes ok ! cool ! that s as far as i was goimg across the borders Detroit to unload and then back in Canada > Early 90s i did 2 Montreal-California unload and load fruits for back home Montreal food terminal . And a few years later i went to Boston with a load of Granit ! one block each trailer total of 93,000 lbs for the 2 blocks ! I was overweight in Quebec so i got a ticket on the last scale before entering USA ! then had to drop one trailer and go deliver my lead but they didn t have time to unload ! the guy was already gone ! so i went bob-tail to get my pup and then came back with the 2 ! LoL was not allowed B-train there ! so that was all my USA experience ! and it was all illegal ! since i had 2 crim...recor...one canadian and one American ! LOL ! did some time in San-Diego back in 1980 ! LoL !

    Take care be safe. That's right they want to put accident on they pay more I used to go through the same thing. With my backhauls. I only had a I pulled a 42 ft utility trailer without side frames I didn't have to deal with coils they sent me to place one time I told my goodness they was pissed I didn't care. I don't know then California Eureka I can haul 52,000 legally. So my back holes I told him I could only hold 4546 at the most Canadian penny worth a damn to begin with. And if they wanted to put extra they had to pay for it or I wasn't all in it I mean even on the rig but I was responsible for it. Well big rid take care and be safe keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down and hammerdown 10-4 Rodger d don't forget the 10.100.10.120. That occasionally pisses her off. Means pissing on a tire that's what I called it kissing a tire off😁🤣😊😎👍🏽🤙🏾🙋🏽‍♂️.

    Yep I had a tire that used to lose pressure, but not all the time. It turned out to have a small metal spike in it. But it only leaked when it was parked and it was pressed against the Road.

    curiosity: did DOT back off on load securing standards? In '98 when I was pulling a skateboard, it was standard to put at least one gut-wrap in the middle of load bundles like the one at about the 02:30min mark.

      @@TruckingTogether ah gotcha brutha, just didn't see it lol - also thank you for replying -- for those that are unfamiliar with "gut wrapping" bundles, the gut wrap acts as a choker so if a load shifts, it pinches in tighter on the inner pieces of the bundle further restricting the movement of those inner pieces.

      It was a 5” nail with the head missing. It wasn’t leaking unless I was sitting. Thought it was the valve too but that checked out.

    One problem Martin. those straps should be on the inside of that rub-rail. You can actually get a ticket for that. other than that you strapped a neat-looking load.

    Have had that happen before and shipper was hell bent they were adding weight. I told them to remove the load and they refused. I unstrapped and dumped it right there. Never saw so many jaws drop at one time. There is a contract in place when you show up. You are there to haul a certain amount or specific order. Additional requires adjusting the rate and a new contract.

      I was supposed to get a “full load” but found out it was 13 bundles per customer buying the product. So naturally I stuck to that lol. Hey less weight pulling all those mountains coming out of there and better mpg. The rates are garbage out of there as is so might as well take advantage.

Can't add stops to the load because that is fraud if it's not on what the broker contracted with you. Every rate con, bol, and log are all federal documents. It is a crime to lie, disguise or omit pertinent information on them.

      I got Conway fined one night for hiding 31,000lbs of hazmat within the load on a food grade reefer trailer. I had no hazmat endorsement and was told if I opened the paperwork, my company bought the load. The cover sheet, "BOL", was so vague and blatantly disguising something so I opened the paperwork and found what was really in the trailer. My mistake to move it without knowing what was in there but I called the weigh station a few miles away and they sent troopers to me. They crawled the trailer front to back and fined the life out of Conway for it.

      @@TruckingTogether some companies take risks thinking they will get away with it because someone doesn't have that much experience out here. At the time I was still new to driving, in my first year. Been driving 10 years now and I don't pull any punches with the shippers, receivers or brokers. While I am far from knowing everything, I know more than enough to generally keep myself from getting screwed over.

    The best jokes I ever heard come from a truck driver at a Colorado. I loaded thousands of trucks in a mill that I’ve worked at. Lumbermill drove a big forklift I’m sorry to say I’ve seen some pretty stupid truck drivers. Seen a couple of them walk right off of the loud hit the ground like a big flat tarp.

    Once word is out on certain Shippers Truckers generally refuse the load, or, just try to deal with the Shipper in a professional, condescending manner, if all else fails, then I leave the load sit!
