  • SOVL is a tabletop fantasy combat game with roguelike elements. You pick your faction and lord, select some early units and go on an adventure on a Slay the spireish map. So if you like warhammer tabletop games, this game is perfect for you. I've been having a great time with the game and it's FREE!

Yeah unkillable units are fun but building a blender Lord is even better. In my Empire trail, I've managed to build a knight captain to be absolute monster (pretty much every random item drop was for my hero). He had like 7 attacks, rerolling, hitting on 2s, and forcing rerolls on succesful saves, with great weapon. He finished campaing with 147 kills (on hero alone). He carried final fight singlehanded (with a retinue of like 6 knights but that's beside the point) killing 2 dwarf veterans units and elven lancers. Cool playthroughs, keep'em coming :)

Nice, most of the time my lords are decent enough, but the best part of them is just the ability they come with or their retinue/mount.

As a massive skaven fan, I vote for them every time. Also their weapon teams are an interesting variation on artillery

Same, skaven is best faction yes-yes!

At 20:45 the bolt throwers are kind of crap artillery. You start out rolling 3 bolts that you need to hit with and get through armor so against large stacks can basically shave off maybe 1 or 2 models a turn (outside of the goblin bolt thrower which is hot garbage). Where the bolt thrower shines is against single large models or units with multiple wounds as each successful bolt deals 2 wounds. In the classic warhammer tabletop you could also use bolt throwers to target lords in an army which was very efficient points removal but i don't believe that feature is there in SOVL.
In general Mortars are just better as most of the time you want to remove a large numbers of models asap before units charge and mortars are better at doing that removing up to 6 models at a time. Plus they can still take out single large models or at least soften them up so you aren't really losing anything by taking a mortar.

So they are kinda more random cannons then since they are best used to snipe monsters, so that makes sense for them. I guess in that case they are kinda better than cannons at infantry though since cannons can only ever get 3 if it rolls well and no saves while bolts can shave of some extras.
I did like the mortars though. They did exactly what I though they would, soften up some infantry for me.
I think the choice would depend on what you need then. If you're already mowing through infantry without a worry but no way of dealing with giants and cav, them cannons and bolts are amazing. otherwise mortars for the other way around. :)

@@lazygrouse yeah kind of like cannons, the best thing about them other than single model removal is that they are cheaper than a cannon/mortar if you have to buy the unit. Had a playthrough recently where I got 3 elven bolt throwers and they racked up something like 250 models in kills all together.
That chasm map you didn't like instantly becomes the best map for you as you can shoot them but they have to go around the chasm if they want to get to you.

    • @lazygrouse
      @lazygrouse  Před měsícem +1

@@vampuricknight1 I mean if you got shooting, the chasm is great. Not so much when you got all melee units that want room to maneuver.

This vampire 2 parter has convinced me to look into the game more. Looks like it can fill the Warhammer itch, without the complexity of Total War. 👍
Also convinced me to sub to the Lazy Grouse. Do we get cake? 😁

I'd like to see a consolidate move or at least some free pivoting after winning a melee combat.

45:26 ..the dragon mounts beath attack is independent from your lord, as well as infinite use, like any ranged units attack.
    Why not use it?

Click on a unit in the army view and there will be a + and - arrows, those lets you adjust the width of the unit.
