    If you want to hear some of my original music you can go here. I need to get back to recording. I did this in my bedroom, all instrument and vocal i did myself in one or two takes. It's really just sketches of song. Todd

    I’ve been following Marillion since 82; they make timeless music that touches your soul. They are one of the best bands in the world for me; and they just get better as the years go by. Thanks for listening to them :)

    it is one of the best albums to date, even after the amazing F.E.A.R, and everything that has come before it, it's simply stunning music! I've been listening to it a lot this past year!

    Excellent reaction Todd! You get it because you let it happen to you. Marillion is about the music first and foremost. They go where the muse guides them, regardless of technique, or genre. Also, the members share the same definition of beauty. The best way to listen is to let is wash over you, or as they say: "loud with the lights off". Definitely listen to the whole album.

    There have been 2 distinct camps of fans of Marillion - The Fish Era 1981 up to the end of 1988 and then the Hogarth Era thereafter. I don't mind the later music. I tried to get into it, there are some moments of brilliance especially instrumentally, but to me, it never had the resonance to stand out for me in terms of repeated listening, especially when there were bands out there doing a much better job in the progressive rock realm. Also Hogarth was never as strong and as dynamic of a singer than Fish. The latter wove magic into his articulate lyrics and did not back away from hefty and punchy concepts. He put a hell of a lot of emotion into his singing, which grips you upon first listen. He was a master poet with a bit of Scottish angst in him and remains a force to be reckoned with in his long solo career. One concept album you must immerse yourself in its entirety is the brilliant masterpiece Misplaced Childhood, which is a rollercoaster ride of emotion. There are ytube videos of the entire album, but I instead, prefer to share out a playlist where the fan does a good job transcribing the lyrics for each song. They should be read to understand the eloquence and depth of Fish's mastery of the written word. Once you understand the lyrics, then you can go to the uninterrupted full length videos to appreciate the continuity of the entire album. If you were to review a single song on the album (which is really hard to pick!), I would suggest BITTER SUITE. But here is the playlist.. Enjoy..

      If you don’t think Hogarth puts emotion into his writing and performance then you haven’t been listening. I’ve been a fan since 83 and sit in both camps. Fish is a poet who could sing a bit. H is a musician who just happens to be an incredible vocalist

      @JoshMainka I agree totally. I love both eras of the band but how anyone can say that Fish is a better singer is beyond me. Technically and emotionally Hogarth is miles ahead of Fish. That's not to say I don't like Fish, I do but they aren't even close. Imagine Fish singing Neverland or the great escape! But listen to H sing script and for me he gets far more out of it.
      I know music is subjective but comparing ability isn't and in that category H is leagues ahead

    "Care" is the best song from AHBID. Fans have always joked about the band being obsessed with "songs about death and water", and here's another one. Hogarth has a penchant for writing somewhat obliquely about controversial topics by focusing on how they affect one particular person or family. "Gaza" is a good example of that technique, as is this song. This time around, the group of people Hogarth focuses on are the people who died with or from Covid and the nurses on the front lines who risked exposure to the virus and worked a lot of double shifts to the point of exhaustion while treating patients under circumstances where normally helpful family members were banned from visiting their loved ones and providing in-person assistance and badly needed emotional support. The emotional support had to come from the nurses, which must have been an additional burden for them.
    Covid is a controversial topic. About half of America fervently believes that the government response to it was horrible and more damaging and deadly to people than the virus. Nurses everywhere should be praised and remembered for meeting their Oaths to care for the sick under very trying circumstances, but I can't help but think while listening to "Care" that by highlighting the human tragedy of a death from Covid, Hogarth is endorsing the draconian government response I so vehemently detest.
    Some fans are of the opinion that AHBID is the greatest album ever released by Marillion. They undoubtedly agree with the politcal messages contained in the lyrics of the songs. Others, like myself, are not all that impressed after waiting six years for the album. That is the risk any band takes when it becomes overtly political and takes a side on highly controversial issues.

      @JoshMainka Před 6 měsíci +4

      No, Care isn't the best song on the album and Care isn't at all political, or any kind of "endorsment". It's humanitarian (as is Gaza) and that isn't taking sides.

      Care (iv) is the the indiviidual best track but as an overall track I would put Crow and the Nightgale higher (just). They (the group) are most certainly NOT taking a political stance (they are more anti Government than pro it) listen to F.E.A.R. where they let their politcal views out. Care is in praise of the Nurses and in no way, shape or form endorsing Governmental responses. Also you have to remember Marillion are a British band so you cannot reflect that on the situation in USA. Educate yourself and do some research before spouting your keyboard off. Watch this video czcams.com/video/RZGyKDNtOnM/video.html which will give you the background to the Care (iv). That particular video has been lifted from the DVD in the Digipak for AHBID. Personally I believe it's their best work to date, although I still love Season's End from all those years ago.

    I can't remember when I've hated an album this much. What happened to Marillion? The band that gave us "The New Kings" is now pumping out approved propaganda for those same billionaires; pushing the B.S. of the COVID hysteria, and calling doctors who lied their asses off "angels on Earth."
    Sad. I don't think I'll be giving them another penny.
