Rotted frame and salt cars. Hmmm....
Cool little bit of local action. Perfect place for this railroad. Barre has tons of roads in and out but somehow doesn't seem to have any roads that go directly to anywhere. Lol

960 is GP9 2389 built in November 1954. Milwaukee had a new 2000 hp 16-645 installed and chopped the nose and on their books called it a GP20m. They purchased GP20 placards giving rise to the confusion. No GP20 came with a 645. They came with 567's.

A few years ago I got some pictures of 960 when it was still being stored up in the Barre transfer yard. Didn't know they'd since moved it. At that time, I also encountered some passenger cars. Later began to hear some rumors of them bringing back tourist trains, though aside from Sky's vid of them moving most of the cars, I haven't really seen or heard any definitive info on them or plans for them.
iirc 960 was one of two or three ex-MILW chop-nose geeps MCER owned (the others being long gone). Forget if they were 7s or 9s. I wonder what did the frame in, there's certainly many other geeps of similar vintage that are still sound. Maybe there's no real way to tell.

Nice little catch on a beautiful Indian Summer afternoon. That GP20 might be appreciated in a museum somewhere. Thanks for posting, Stephen.

If you hadn't mentioned it I don't think your audience would know this about the GP. If the Delaware and Hudson had owned GPs this could be the Interchange to the Boston and Maine because of the paint schemes. The celebrity car indeed was the first covered Hopper in that when built it was PBLX Pillsbury Co and later was sold off and.later was MILW RD or SOO. Todays odd reporting mark is SALX which lists the owner as General American Marks. Stealthy GATX uses it in their Fleet so therefore SALX is for their cars carrying salt. Please no poking of the tummy and he is the Doughboy but is lacking some Anatomy plus only a thumb no fingers

Too bad about that GP20, though they still have a neat little active fleet

Ironic that 1750 is going by since it has 960’s old m3 in similar condition to when it was on 960.

Rotted Frame never thought these big guys had regular inspections. Are they conducted on-site? FRA is the authority?

Always sad to see a spent locomotive. That Pillsbury car, or one just like it, minus the graffiti, sat idle on the NECR line just south of the CT/MA border for months about 10 years ago. I used to pass by it on my daily commute.

That poor old girl is headed for the dead line somewhere. I don’t know much about locomotive repair, but I’m guessing cost effective work isn’t in that unit’s future
