You're actually wrong about Mario Wonder not winning anything; it won best family game in the pre-show.
Sparking Zero is actually the original name for Budokai Tenkaichi for Japanese customers. Budokai Tenkaichi was the name given for western customers for some reason.
Maybe because of the Budokai games that came before?
In Japan the Tenkaichi series is called DBZ Sparking, so they decided to use that name over Tenkaichi which I’m with btw.
I only heard good things both about Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 so the fact they took home the most awards I wasn’t exactly that shocked shocked during the live. Mainly shocked that spider man didn’t get at least one award is kinda crazy lol (I’m glad TOTK at least got something) but I guess I can understand at the same time lots of great games came out this year. Congrats to the winners though !!
Same case with Resident Evil 4 Remake but they won PlayStation Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023 so it wasn’t a complete loss.
But what would it win? What did it do better than every other game for it to deserve an award? Lies Of P and RE4 were great too but they don’t deserve an award just because of that.
The orchestra flute player that was going ham with all his instruments is a legend in the business who makes alot of his own flutes aswell. Don't know his name, but I know him from a dvd called Yanni (which has insanely good music performances shown on it.)

I’m glad we got beamstruggles and destructible environment confirmed, Vegeta backhanding a Kamehameha was kinda sick, and it looks pretty, obviously. But we didn’t get much new beyond that :-/
Still hoping for way bigger ‘arenas’ (multi-biome plz) and way more special abilities per character, as well as button combos, and more unique attacks for each character like Budokai Tenkaichi 2.
If they can nail a DBZ game with BIG open arenas, destructible environments, easy and smooth teleporting & beam struggles, and many combos and moves to counter each other, then we got us a GOAT.
The reason why Budokai 4 is called Sparking 0 is because in japan the games were known as sparking I do believe.

Sparking was the original name of the budokai tenkaichi games in Japan. Sparking Zero is just them saying that they are sticking to the Japanese name
Budokai Tenkaichi 4 was called Sparking Zero, because that's what the games are called in Japanese. For example, Tenkaichi 3's Japanese name is Sparking Meteor.

Spiderman 2 is a very good game in a year of excellent games. It juts had a misfortune of releasing same year as Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, both of which likely beeing among best games of decade.
Budokai title is Budokai in english because the anime games industry was in that weeb phase where they thought ot wouldnt sell if it wasn't. It has always been called Sparking in Japan.

The Games Awards was like mostly commercials with a few awards sprinkled in. Even the commercials were all just "post-apocalyptic shooters with robots."

As an Award Show? Nah absolutely not that was shameful how they treated the award winners plus like half didn’t even get to go up on stage.

After my friends and I watched it together through Discord, aside from Baulder’s Gate 3 taking home most of the glory as we kinda anticipated, most of us (mostly me) had a similar thought process regarding the show as a whole: it was more show than game awards show. So many ads, so many promotions for games that were mostly just cutscenes and not gameplay (won’t be THAT indicative of the entire game, even though some showed promise), a two-three minute long dance for Alan Wake 2 that the speakers seemingly had no interest/rehearsal in based on how they were moving and signing out of sync, Simu Liu (hope his foot heals) trying to build hype of a game he’s when it’s just footage and when his voice is heard for like 10 seconds, and a lot of the games showcased felt the same with their genre, artstyle, and formatting. Think what you will by me saying I’m a Nintendo guy, and say what you will about Tears of the Kingdom not innovating enough from Breath of the Wild, but isn’t a bit surprising that they took only one award? I actually wanted Mario Wonder to win for Art Direction based on uniqueness, but maybe its late release prevented people to form a concrete opinion on the game (it did win best family game, but that was in the pre-show for some reason). Same with Spider-Man 2; I felt really bad for those developers as that game is undoubtedly great in story and adventure.
To clarify, this isn’t hate towards BG3 fans. I’m legitimately happy for you guys and you guys earned these awards. I’m just shocked how this awards show didn’t wow me too much. It felt like Game Awards 2020 where Sephiroth’s Smash Ultimate reveal was the only thing that stuck with audiences, and most of those watching online left after that. The fact I didn’t leave early for this one makes it feel like the last two hours I was watching on stream felt like a waste.
The best reveal, in my opinion, wasn't even in the show. It was in the preshow. Which was world of goo 2. I guess that shows how low quailty the game awards have gotten.
Skull and bones is actually a disappointment it isn't a good game actually one of the worst.

But SM2 isn't a Spider-Man game, it's "Hey, buy our overpriced console" game...

No, because Spider Man 2 didn’t get not one award I would’ve at least expected it to win best action/adventure award but it didn’t Tears of the Kingdom won that award and I don’t care what the haters say Spider Man 2 is an awesome game and it is personally my GOTY.

I mean in terms of action/adventure, I feel like Zelda deserve to win compared to Spider-Man
Spider-Man exploration, map, puzzles and what you can do in the game doesn't compare to Zelda in an open world aspect
And this is coming from someone who knows nothing about Zelda games narrative wise and generally like Spider-Man more

Considering Spider-Man 2 didn't win jack-shit in any category when it clearly deserved to, I'm going to say no! The Game Awards were incredibly shitty this year & I didn't even have to watch it to know it. There's a reason I stopped watching awards shows altogether, and this year's Game Awards was concrete proof.
It's not like it didn't deserve any award, it's the fact that the entire year was stacked with great game all around. It wasn't snuffed out, that's just personal bias if you don't consider what it was running against.
there was nothing spiderman was nominated for that it deserved to win, and that's not to take away from the game. It just released in a year where there were plenty of fantastic games
