- This is the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, live from Belgrade the capital of Serbia!
For the first time in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, two Semi-Finals were held to decide which 25 countries would be represented in the Final. The Final of the contest took place on the 24th of May, just like the first ever Eurovision Song Contest in 1956.
Serbia hosted the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in the Belgrade Arena. A record 43 countries participated including San Marino and Azerbaijan who made their respective debuts. Austria withdrew and did not return to the competition until 2011.

The stage was also spectacular. Really ahead of its time. That stage could be used in Eurovision 2021 and nobody would think it was outdated

I agree. BUT the green room segments were probably the worst ever! Two unprofessional, screaming, pathetic 'presenters' really let Eurovision 2008 down. Otherwise it was so well planned, hosted and executed event.

13 лет прошло...но именно этот год запомнился лучшими исполнениями ,и песни помню до сих пор,в телефоне был весь альбом . Особенно Израиль,Армения ,Украина ,Сербия one love ❤️
Proud of my country! :) Hope we'll show you Belgrade and Serbia soon again and in much better way for sure. For that time, it was super good when we include these cameras, lighting, fireworks, arena etc. Serbia has organized so many live events, festivals, big shows and competitions with amazing production (sometimes never seen before) and I'm sure we can highly push the boundaries with organisation and production once more. Love from SERBIA :)

Serbia was the perfect host that year. Especially the postcards and interval acts were amazing. I don't even have a word for Zeljko-Jovana ❤ Also Azerbaijan and San Marino both made their debut in Eurovision. ALSOOO we participated with Mor ve Ötesi and my favorite artist Dima Bilan won. Wow what a year! :)

Украина то понятно, но 12 баллов от всей прибалтики и кавказа - это сильно. плакать от этого хочется. май 2008 евровидение - 12 баллов от Грузии, а уже в августе мы с ними воевали. Литва, Латвия, Эстония какими бы наши отношения не были еще со всемен советского союза, вражды между нами не было. без матов нынешнюю ситуацию, конечно, не описать. как можно было довести до такого, что все дружественные страны-соседи отвернулись на 180 градусов. теперь евро, как чудесный способ понять, какая страна сама по себе. голосование по принципу "соседи", разумеется, бред. но, его не уберешь даже убрав голосование "проф жюри", все равно люди будут голосовать за содружество народов. а наш удел: 12 от Беларуси, странно, что это еще не Россия...... хотя.... не буду каркать))) и от Азербайджана (если повезет). пс спасибо карабахскому конфликту и Турции. отвернулись от Армении, повернулись к Азербайджану и Турции. в общем жесть.

Thank you Marija for bringing Eurovision to Belgrade for the very first time, and hopefully not the last! We are still thankful and proud of you to this day! Overall, I think my country did a decent job hosting considering our recent history and that we are not the richest country in Europe. Not to mention that two semis were also introduced this year. And sorry y'all but this should have been our second victory in a row! Oro is in my opinion the best Host country entry in all of the 2000's! This was also the year with the most joke acts, but that wasn't our fault so don't blame us. XD Tho, it did give us a lot of good songs. Ukraine, Greece, Armenia, Norway, Israel, Portugal, Turkey etc. I remember Qele Qele being a massive summer hit in Serbia! I don't remember reactions of the winner then much, but I do remember liking it, but it wasn't a winner in my opinion. Also, these were the best postcards in the 2000's!
I really hope one day, we will have an experience of hosting this show again, and I don't doubt it that we will make it even better then the 2008 one!

Очень непросто... Им тогда не дали привезти лёд нормального размера, пришлось сократить площадку для Плющенко просто до неприличных размеров. И вообще, с реквизитом вставляли палки в колёса. Но они сдюжили.

@@Most_Wanted_2005 well here in Greece he was a decent player, one of the best of our league. But premier league is much difficult than greek league. I think he is really good as a rotation player. We are really proud about him here,hope he gets more playtime

Ani Lorak performed it so amazingly, with so much control, despite having a dance routine, being picked up, climbing steps etc. And she looked amazing. Still love that song to this day!

Eurovision Song Contest 2008 is absolutely perfect example why we all love the contest to this day.
Perfect organization, staging and directing came from back-in-the-day still very poor but proud country,
new format allowed more countries to try harder to win this competition,
Azerbaijan and San Marino debuted and later gave us some of the coolest and craziest ESC bops,
and I don't even need to mention this combo of the best and the worst ESC entries of this century.
Serbia gave us another timeless tune, Russia won based on their 2006 fantastic entry, Norway paved the way for their 2009 win,
and Sweden, Andorra, Denmark, Portugal & Slovakia were so underrated... DAMN France sent Sebastian whose song "Divine" became slow burn radio classic... and most importantly (in my humble opinion)
2008 ESC gave us - die hard Eurovison fans - 3 all time Eurovision classics
Kalomira, Sirusho and Ani Lorak remain mini skirt holy trinity of the Eurovision Song Contest!
I can't even describe how much I love this silly but amazing contest! Oh and Belgraders lived up to thier reputation of being party all night long people!
