Manila to Boracay (Not Quite As Planned)

  • On Day 5 in the Philippines, along with Anton and his family, we flew to the island of Boracay to spend 2 days. Things didn’t go quite as planned, as our first flight was canceled, but we did end up making it to Boracay at the end of the day, and then got checked into Discovery Shores Hotel.
    Anton’s CZcams channel: / antondiaz
00:30 Going to the Airport - We took a taxi in the morning to the airport, and arrived and checked in. The line and security was pretty tight, but didn’t take too long.
2:08 Flight Canceled and Rebooked - Cebu Pacific is notorious in the Philippines for delayed and canceled flights, and today was no different. We were supposed to fly from Manila to Caticlan, but our flight was canceled, and we had to re-route on another flight to Kalibo airport, about 2 hours from Boracay.
2:36 Lunch at Airport - Lunch at the airport wasn’t anything too impressive, nor was the food supplied by Cebu Pacific.
4:55 Flight to Kalibo, Boracay - Finally, even our re-routed flight was late by 1.5 hours, but we finally took off the Kalibo Airport, towards Boracay island.
6:19 Where is Boracay? - Boracay is a small island off the coast of Aklan. The closest airport is Caticlan, and about 2 hours away is another airport called Kalibo.
7:19 Boat ride to Boracay - After taking a van for about 2 hours to get to the pier, we then took a quick boat ride to Boracay island and we headed to Discovery Shores Hotel where we stayed for 2 nights.
10:00 Dinner at Discovery Shores Boracay - Dinner was served on the beach, along with Anton and his family, and everything was pretty good.
Disclosure: We were invited to stay at Discovery Shores Boracay, so we didn’t pay for our stay. But everything in this video, and all thoughts are my own.

I would first like to apologize, on behalf of all Filipinos, for all the delays you guys have expected. This is a common thing in the Philippines, especially when it comes to traffic and domestic flights (even international ones). I must say, that despite all the setbacks you and your company have experienced, you have managed to still stay very positive and open-minded all throughout. Your patience is remarkable, and your great attitude is admirable. You could have gone the other route and totally blast your Philippine holiday, yet you did not. Again, on behalf of all the Filipinos, thank you very much, Mark! Keep up the great job!

+jazzyisme , Flying Cebu Pacific myself along with my wife, patients is something everyone needs to have with this airline. 100% rate of being late. If any one flies on this airline, I would recommend purchasing the insurance just in case the flight is canceled and you are stuck over night because of their cause including weather cancellations.

Domestically, Philippine Airlines has a better record of departing online. Cebu Airlines is like Spirit Airlines with all the fees and delays. My wife and I plan to take Philippine Airlines and just pay more to fly to a different island rather than be stuck with delays on Cebu Pacific. Cebu Pacific can be a great airline if they simply get organized and learn how to run the company better.

Cebu Pacific seats are so small an tight, learning air Philippines and pals seats give you more room. I hope the taxi did not try to get more money then the meter stated. That food Cebu pacific gave you is sort of cheapy, I remember they gave us Jollibee when they were delayed. It is the air conditioner that was making the steam not smoke. Boracays nice but surigaws nicer.. Philippine Mangos are the bomb. March time is the peak season for them. Enjoy the Video Mark, Keep them coming

Mark, I am so pleased you were able to publish these Manila Trip videos despite your camera troubles. My wife (we are a Lesbian couple) is from Tacloban Philippines and I am from Toronto Canada. I am a street food fanatic. I follow many food / travel vlogers and so many of them compliment the Philippines on their beautiful country, incredible service and wonderful people (compared to other Asian countries). As for the food, I think just about all the other Asian countries have had their time at the top of the "hip food" ladder, but Filipino food has yet to reach this level of popularity and general acceptance. I would love to hear your take - perhaps in a discussion with Anton about why this has yet to happen and where you both think Filipino food is headed. I hope you get back to Manila soon and get some time to hit the streets! You must look up the "Filipino Street Food Song" by Mikey Bustos (CZcams video) and try to sample all the foods mentioned in the song !!

Hey Mark.. Another great video! I've experienced the delays and cancellations several times before, especially coming from Boracay or even Cebu. I think it's pretty common. It drives my wife crazy but for me, I've learned to relax and enjoy. The same goes for the traffic, which I actually enjoy a lot mostly because being an avid photographer, getting stuck in traffic just gives me more opportunity to capture some amazing shots even from the car. By the way, I hope you also got a chance to go to one of those restaurants in Boracay that's sort of like home cooked meals. Meaning that, you go to the market to buy your fresh seafoods, meats, etc and bring it to them to cook. I've had the most amazing meals that way. The last time I had these super huge prawns cooked in garlic butter sauce and it was heavenly!! My wife loves your reactions when you eat something delicious. I think we can tell when you've eaten something wonderfully delicious or you've eaten something that is so-so..lol. I hope one day you can travel to my wife's home province of Pangasinan and try some of the delicacies there. Thanks for making me miss the Philippines even more. It has truly become my second home… I think I also want to try that buffet in Sofitel in Manila. Wow!

Well, I just came back from Boracay and I enjoyed so much, I will definitely go back someday. I would advice anyone who plans to go to take the flight straight to Caticlan airport. You will end up paying almost the same if you go to Kalibo airport. Apparently the two hour bus ride from the town of Kalibo to the Caticlan pier is quite rough. I stayed at Coast Boracay and was treated like a princess. Service was A+. I was only allowed 10 kg checked in baggage but the excess fee of $6 per kilo did not put a hole in my pocket. Yes, it was a holiday I will always remember with fondness.

  • @BAdventures
    @BAdventures Před 9 lety +14

Shame you had a cancelled flight, but at least they gave you some food. It's common to fly to Kalibo then get a bus/van to the port, then a ferry to Boracay. It's much cheaper and a common route. Good thing you had a local friend Anton to help you. The hotel looked very grand and lush, amazing they even had your photo framed lol. Dinner looked very fancy =)

Hi Mark, the condensation coming from the air vents is normal and no cause for alarm. This is common whenever an aircraft is sitting on the tarmac on a hot and humid day. The condensation occurs when the hot humid air is sucked into the air conditioning system and is mixed in with the cool air inside. There are several CZcams videos documenting this phenomenon. It's just harmless water vapors.

I'm terribly sorry for that wasted time in the airport. Philippines is known for terrible domestic flights. Almost all of the domestic flights go through that problem you just had. And CEBU PACIFIC has the WORST service BAR NONE.

    Great video Mark,
My daughter has a friend that lives in Cebu City. From what I understand always get to the airport and expect to wait. The problem is with the weather. Not so much where you are but where the plane is comming from causes delays. It makes for quite a shuffle for everyone to deal with there.

Oh,how super,a plethora of informative videos from Manila,by the way our airports here in the UK are beyond redemption, and the food in the hotel was absolutely what you need after quite an arduous adventure in an airport. The lobster bisque was beautiful and your reaction confirmed it.The hotels have a quality of food we here in Europe only experience in very high class hotels/restaurants and even then they do not approach anything like the quality you are showing, again SIGH!As ever, more please!

    • @tosht2515

? There are dozens of 5 star luxury hotels just in London (since you mentioned UK) that offer the same service and quality dining as the Discovery Shores Boracay. 100s more in Europe. With that said, Mark's accommodations during this trip have been absolutely wonderful.

    Hello Mark and Ying.
The airport was indeed a catastrophe. Long waits, then makes travel no fun.
And then also a salted snack.
But the hotel room was very nice again.
And the food looked very good.
    Very nice atmosphere.
What I miss a bit, you're not traveling on the road to look for local street Food.Nice video as always. Keep it up!
    Thumbs up!
