      True my old disco 2000 were belt drives. I’ve recently got some reloop 8000 and to be honest, I’ve found them difficult to mix on. On technics the pitch seems to keep the speed more constant. The reloops I’m forever adjusting during a mix. Seriously thinking about going back to technics.

      My first decks was also a pair of soundlabs, I seem to remember on the back it had a 3/4" headphone jack input, which if was plugged in would make the patter spin in reverse at 33 or 45 depending what was selected. Never really knew what it proper intentention was for. Also, pushing down on both 33 and 45 buttons made the turntable behave differently.

    dj-ing is a skill/craft that takes years of practice, it definitely doesn't have anything to do with balancing mercury 🤣 DJing is about syncopation of audio, matching two of the same beat and monitoring audio via the neural pathways of the brain. 👍 Once you learn the fundamentals of Audio beat matching you can then hone your craft.

    Saying the higher the pitch adjustment (8/16/50) percent, means the smaller the movement required is not strictly true.
    Pioneer PLX-1000 and a Hanpin deck like dozens of others, and as such, the pitch adjustment is digital ie it moves in steps.
    This means there is no way of making each step any smaller, what it actually means is, at 8% adjustment, you might have a 0.2% (just as an example, this might be 0.1% or 0.3%), adjustment per 'steps' in the pitch. At 16% adjustment, each 'step' in the pitch slider's adjustment might be 0.4% and at 50% setting, each step might be 0.6%.
    There is no way to minutely adjust the pitch in 0.1% steps, no matter how small amount of movement you adjust the pitch slider, the steps are always there because it is a digital adjustment, and anything digital moves in steps.
    On a Technics Mk2, M3d, or Mk4 turntable, the pitch adjustment is analogue and is just a voltage, so there is an infinite amount of adjustment, there are no 'steps'.

  • @meganoid_9001
    @meganoid_9001 Před rokem +1

    Your view is opposite to that of JustTechnics channel. My experience is as follows. I've bought a PLX 1000 and I've compared them to my old SL 1200 MK2. While aesthetic and torque of the former are invaluable, I must say that the precision of PLX 1000 is lower than that of my old MK2. With the term "precision" I mean two things: 1) Wow & Flutter of PLX 1000 lies between 50 and 100 percent more than that of MK2, based on comparable measurements (whose absolute value might be debatable, but the relative on is undoubtedly fair); 2) Pitch granularity is finer on MK2 than on PLX based on the ability to match a precise beat sampled using a digital metronome. Conclusion: I am up to sell my PLX 1000.

  • @priyonjoni
    @priyonjoni Před 3 lety +15

    Modern turntables for DJ use have digital controlled pitch speed, like on the PLX-1000s. Unlike analog pitch control, the speed is more accurate and consistent between models. Older turntables with analog pitch control would have minor variances between identical models. That’s why back in the day you can sometimes have two brand new (turntables that everyone used) and have one slightly faster at +8%.
    Digital pitch speed reduces those variances. A loose way to look at it is, imagine having quartz lock accuracy at the entire +/- speed spectrum. I say loosely since actual quartz accuracy actually reduces wow and flutter.
    Unfortunately, it’s also been highly controversial to the purists about having digital pitch control on an analog device because they claim you lose the resolution. But last I checked, DJs aren’t measuring their bpm inaccuracies by the 0.00001% variances. They just want the rotation speed to remain as consistent as long as possible for those 32 to 64 bar transitions. Anyways, great video!

      the issue with the digital pitch as i'm aware is that the minimum incremental move is not as low as an analogue turntable resulting in more riding the pitch fader which was the single factor that made me go for a set of used 1210s over any of the oem digital turntables

    • @davidcunningham9282

The only difference being the build quality in which case the reloop seems to be the best option. • @JackDoonerMusic
      @JackDoonerMusic Před 3 lety +2

      I have a pair of PLX 1000’s and I’ve also noticed the same issue on display units.
      For arguments sake, let’s say we are mixing two identical tracks with the exact same BPM and the pitch is locked correctly so that both tracks are in perfect sync....Whenever I‘m pitch bending, mainly when nudging the platter/ vinyl forward to beat match, the tracks will temporarily be in sync, but then the platter falls back maybe half or a quarter of a beat so that results in you nudging forward more and more.... almost like you’re fighting to get the track up to the beat. This is also visible on the strobes.
      Lets say we are at 0% pitch, the strobes are dead centre and still... to nudge it forwar, the strobes move further clockwise, but after a few seconds, they temporarily begin moving slightly counter clockwise. It just seems so annoying. And it’s happened on every unit I’ve tested.

    Digital pitch controller, ugh! Hanpin motor, ugh! These decks are great if you are a cut and scratch DJ however, if you are a club mix DJ avoid. Look for decent set of mk5's. Last of the Technics with analogue pitch controller.
