How quiet are the road in comparison to today's mad rush... Beautiful time to be around early 2000's - last of the normal years.

Good video. I remember driving along the Gold Coast highway when I first moved down in 2000. Just gives me memories seeing all those VR/VS Holdens and EA Fords. Nowadays seeing too many development and SUVs.

Thank you for this video, brought back many memories! I was 16 in 1997 and this year was the first time I visited the Gold Coast and I moved up there a year later. Happy times. :)

So cool to see this! I was living in Helensvale during the time when this was filmed in 1997. Such a great time in my life. Remember going to Surfers every Friday night with friends, season pass for Dreamworld and Wet n Wild, Australia Fair and Pacific Fair malls, Carrara markets.... Moved away the following year and have never ever been back sadly. Be cool to one day, to have a look around again for a wander down memory lane.... I can imagine its changed a lot now.

It's changed a bit since then, more high-rise buildings. It's moved with the times. Pac Fair has been extended and renovated. Aus Fair is still there. The theme parks are still here. Carrara Markets still exists. A lot of new businesses in the suburbs along the beach. There's a light rail service from the new hospital near Parkwood (old Southport Hospital was demolished) to Pac Fair now with stops all along the way. It's still a great city.

I drove a lot of this road last week and it’s notable that the route through Surfers is different and the highway was classed as Alt 1.

Felt like going into nostalgia seeing all those sedans on the roads, unlike today too many SUVs. Good cars those XF Fords. Good seeing those VR/VS Holdens as well.

They have absolutely killed the Gold Coast and surfers with the light railway. Surfers was so vibrant bcse the locals made up half the demographic. You could always get a park and driving to Broadbeach to surfers literally took 2 minutes with 4 lanes and two sets of lights. Now for lease signs everywhere and shoddy business that sell absolutely nothing, no parking and traffic lights every 30 meters that are all designed to be red to slow the one lane traffic all the way to nsw
