All the while I listened to this audio with my eyes closed I thought of a lil something:
The character is stone cold. Not an information spilled.
One word about his task, its not him who'll die, but his partner and her platoon, then the next. He'd been task to sabotage the armada, but all the while secretly helping everyone else.
All he'd done, he'd done for them. The noise he made was to distract the enemies as William got shot.
Hearing "The woman who loved you" stings, but it is what it is. He'd love to cry out and claim his innocence right there when she said she had hope, but her life matters more than his. If he were to be killed he will be the only cost, not anyone else.
He was caught probably messing around with more of the military supplies in order to seem like he was sabotaging them but in reality, his technical blabber about the military kept this organization at bay. But this couldn't go on forever.
He was bound by a secret. He was tasked to sabotage his partner's platoon and lead them to certain death, only to misinform the organization and lead them to *almost* meeting their maker.
His situation was dire. Silence in exchange for the safety of the friends at arms he made, and for the woman he loved. Even if it causes him his reputation... and his life.
War is nothing more then systematic killing of an enemy on an industrial level and with government sanctions. The only difference between soldiers like me and you is that you fight for a flag, I fight for an idea. I have my orders, "Seek and destroy the enemy" and if you can't handle that then I pray you never get in front of my gun sight, because I will not hesitate to kill. I am not a traitor, but instead a different kind of soldier, the one who kills on order. A good soldier follows orders, no matter what. I have not the heart nor capacity to regret, so I continue. If what I do shatters your heart, then so be it, another useless casualty in another useless war. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a river of blood to create.

Plot twist: The listener was under a form of mind control (most likely hypnosis), and was ordered to betray his/her allies. Not realising what he/she had done, still under the effects, he/she tells the interrogater what he/she was told to say. The soldier then killed the listener not realising that they were hypnotised to do what they had done.
If that's the case then this just got a whole lot more depressing.

I'm just thinking up this scenario where I've been mindcontrolled to betray my people, and I can't even physically tell them that I didn't do it on purpose. The thing I told her was a code that they'll eventually crack and find out the truth. Imagining how broken I am for having to kill my own comrades and how broken she is when she finds out I really was innocent all along.
This would make a awesome opening for some anime like a back story for the protagonist like his regrets that is something someone should do

MY ONLY WAR IS THE WAR ON CRIME
Guaranteed we were made to do what we did from some higher ups. Probably to make Female Winter Soldier over here go on a heartless murder spree to wipe out the enemy we're at war with, because now she's under the impression that the person she loved was a turn coat or an enemy the whole time and killed a squad mate.
I mean, think about it. If we were REALLY an enemy, why would we: create strong bonds with everyone, fight side by side, make this powerful woman fall in love with us, really worm our way in, and then what? Kill William, the bright eyed, eager to make friends, squadie that shined my boots? As well as to do it during a mission at a point where we hadn't even found the enemy yet and not during a hectic firefight to keep it concealed?
Doubt we were smuggling info out, cause what rat would compromise their position by killing someone and injuring others in such a sloppy ass manner? Why didn't we just leak where we were being deployed and have the rest of the squad be mowed down in an ambush, become the sole survivor of a squad wipe, get reassigned, and start the process again?
This is a movie scenario where we find out in the end that the higher ups gave us a choice: Either kill that weak link, William, and get caught to push Female Winter Soldier into being a cold killing machine or they will kill Female Winter Soldier because she's becoming too dangerous or something or other. Our love for her pushes us to take out poor William before we find any enemies and then we get some others injured to really sell it. Bada-bing-bada-boom now we're here. Sworn to keep it a secret for her safety and accepting that she may never love/forgive us, but she's alive.
Or we really are evil and just a moron...
But hey, that's just a theory, an AUDIO RP theory. Thanks for reading.

It's happened - the uprising in the alpha location has begun as was planned, so I have to make my move. William has the charges set and is ready but I have my doubts. I've grown a bond with this unit that I can't shake off. Bethy is one that will hurt to break - the one I'll always regret. The boss always told me to be loyal to the mission - I never thought it would be that hard. But here I am - and the uprising must happen whether I like it or not. William is ready to move - and so am I. My trial of fire to become what I will become. This is where I become my demon. No turning back.
