'100 Deadliest Days': Agencies warn of summertime surge in fatal teen crashes

  • Penfield, N.Y. (WHAM) - AAA and other local agencies are spreading awareness about the dangers teens can face while driving ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
    Experts say the number of fatal crashes with young drivers at the wheel increases during the summer months.
    AAA refers to the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day as the "100 deadliest days," claiming fatal teen crashes increase dramatically during this timeframe.
    Lyndsay Tomidy, the STOP-DWI New York program coordinator who also supervises the Monroe County Office of Traffic Safety, says 35 percent of crashes with teen drivers in Monroe County happen between May and September.
