    I fixed that steering in my 165.
    Loose feed back mechanism in front behind grill.
    I put a gas shock on a 966b CAT which wobbled on feed back rod cured it.
    Excellent 👍

    Just finished changing the axle legs, spindles and bushings on my MF 270 with a loader - huge improvement. I was lucky, my centre axle pivot was in good shape and didn’t need to be replaced.

    Never had that issue with our 165. The throttle and pto power were the 2 main issues. Our 165 was used primarily on the manure spreader and silo blower. Our 78’ 275 has power steering and radiator issues. Hoping the power steering cylinder can be rebuilt. I’m dreading tearing that apart. Your videos give me inspiration to work on it and bring back memories to my childhood.

    The wobbling wheel... i remember that issue with a Case IH i drove 3 times back to the dealer to get that issue out of the way. The farmer wasn't happy with the first repairs.
    That Case IH was an in England build one... The farmar also had a 35X wich i drove a lot... also a Landini wich is the sister of Massey Ferguson
    Yesterday (April 2nd 2023) i discoverd your channel... and the Massey Ferguson fan as i am i had to watch and subscribe! I love these older tractors of MF. The first tractor i drove was a Massey Ferguson 35X my grandfathers tractor, still my favorite... And i think it is still a bloody shame that tractor got sold...
    Yes i like the tractors of Massey-Ferguson... the last one i drove was a 6270. Thinking wich models i drove: 35X ,135, 590, 690, 3050, 3080 6270 maybe not much but always fun from one brand or another back to the Massey Ferguson

    Hey JT. Love your show..my dad is a retired test engineer from massy Ferguson..I grew up on that same tractor to..and a few 1100s ..if you have a lot of play in the tie rods make sure you have enough toe in.. measure the front center rib to front center rib ..then the same on the back..he told me it should be one to two inches closer on the front mesurement that the back ..that would keep the play forced tight ..love your show..seems though the damper worked anyway 😊

      It's good to see someone taking interest in the old masseys..they are extremely rare here in south Georgia..massey Ferguson had a test farm here in Boston GA..on the Florida line..500 acer farm.. they dug a 100 acre lake on the aucilla river ..its on the google map..they closed it down in the mid seventies..they wanted my dad to relocate to Michigan but he took early retirement..i spent many days with him riding on tractors ..hard to believe the abuse they put those tractors through to develope them..

    YOU DA MAN JT!! I have a '71 175 that I don't have that problem yet thankfully, but I have multiple one row Farmalls Cubs and 130 HiClear that I thought of doing this to them a long time ago thinking it should work...now I know it will. BUT I take some of these Farmalls to shows and the Farmall Police and purest will outwardly make fun of me while after seeing it works go back and do it theirs cause this problem is notorious in the one row Farmalls!!! The purest Farmall owners that will call me out, do not use their tractors for nothing but "trailer queens" and "parade wavers" ... I STILL use my tractors and need to solve working problems the simplest and cheapest way possible !! Thanks again! Wayne W. NC

    The "wobble" started in the UK in 1965 with the MF 175 fitted with 7.50x19 front wheels with heavy cast centres, took MF quite awhile before they cured it, of coarse knowing MF, it had to be cheap! 2 discs were fitted on the bottom of the king pin, one having serrations on it, ALL cured.

    Everything in the front end of mine is well worn. To the point that traveling on two lane roads with any traffic is scary.. she's prone to swap lanes almost completely of her own volition.. lol yeah , done puckered all the foam off the seat. So even though kudos for the quick fix i want to tighten everything back up. Like you say the 165's are one of the best ever made.... Lol

  • @bfields1448
    @bfields1448 Před rokem +2

    Quick fix. The proper way to fix this is to take the bushings out of the steering control pivot arm where the hydraulic cylinder connects to replace with new ones. That's usually always the problem.

    • @jtsbarnngrill6873
      @jtsbarnngrill6873  Před rokem +2

      @@jtsbarnngrill6873 you know all the tractors have their problems red, blue, green, orange even the new ones. The older ones you can still work on yourself and still get parts. The Massey's had some incredible engineering back in the day like the perkins engine you can rebuild it like 4-5 times. Fuel efficient and tons of torque

    • @jtsbarnngrill6873

      It was just a generic steering damper from a Jeep Cherokee I believe. The box is loooong gone. I extended the damper to 1/2 open, bolted it to the collar of the outer tie Rod, and welded a piece of angle iron near the center of the axle. That’s about all there was to it. Hope that helps a little. Wasn’t much to it, just did my best to make it work
