My 4th generation Jimny came with steel wheels painted metallic black. The surface is glossy. I am planning on painting them white for a 1980s looks. Your technique looks effective but steel rims have a higher lip. I wonder how I can get the paint on the outer side that will get partially covered by index cards. The surface will need a bit extra prep too, I guess.
@@DentedFenderGarage OK. Thank you. In any case, if the paint job does not end up looking good, I could go to a workshop with a paint setup. Also, each steel rim of the Jimny here in India costs the equivalent of 25 US Dollars so I could always buy new ones if I wanted to go back to the stock finish.
Yooo jokes aside put them in length ways next time... hahaha why’d you take the extra time to lay them vertically... hahaha come on my guy. Btw use plasti dip it’s easier to redo it when you inevitably have to because you painted over the oe finish with zero prep. Hahaha ugh it’s actually a little painful tbh. Haha painting the wheel weights too haha oh man. Im getting serious my first Honda in high school vibes from this.
I sanded and prepped, that wasn’t part of the video. This wasn’t about vertical or horizontal, I’ve done both, this was about using cards instead of tape. As for plastidip, I hate that crap, it’s temporary, I didn’t need temporary.
Just ignore this man, the smart people see much hate and anger he has inside to really take the time to post a paragraph making fun of you for everything little thing. Do whatever you want with your rims however you want, they looked great btw. Nothing wrong with a quality paint job over purchasing new expensive rims.
A deck of cards works amazing
It does, and Dollar Tree sells cards, but that’s 52 for $1.25 and these note cards were 100 for .50 cents
You could also you a glove tip to cover the air hole

I can’t remember exactly but I know it’s a metallic dark grey if of some sort. Haha

Do you pull the cards while the paint is still wet?

I’d still just use the index cards and just worry about the face being painted.

What about deflat the tire
If you deflate the tire it will still be stuck to the bead unless you have a way to break the bead.
