  • The Compact Disc is actually far superior to downloadable media. The bitrate of a CD is 1411 and anything downloadable will max out at 320 kilobits per second.

    No streaming for me.....NONE. When you 'stream' music, you're actually RENTING the music from a subscription service. Your collection is nothing but a few playlists, which can be deleted at any time by the service. As for CDs (and all other forms of physical media!), you actually own the music POINT BLANK.

      That is why I only use streaming services for music I want to sample, I'd never rely on it for music that I want to keep.
      As an example, recently someone released a video on CZcams of a cover of "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again" by Almost Karen (it used an AI to simulate the voice of Karen Carpenter). I could tell it wasn't her but it was a nicely done cover of a song I wish she had covered. Unfortunately, a few days later I went to listen to it and it disappeared.
      In the same way, there was a vocaloid video for ABBA's "The Winner Takes It All" where a vocaloid lipsyncs to the actual song. The video was excellent and I preferred it over the official video. The video had been there for years, then one day it was gone.

    I recently sold my turntable because I'm so tired of the high prices of vinyl not only that vinyl requires way too much care cleaning the record before you play it cleaning the stylist I sold my turntable I have always had a CD player I have about 150 CDs that's going to be the only format I listen to other than my cassette deck I can go to Goodwill and buy 10 CDs for $3 CDs Superior in a lot of ways you can play them in your car they don't take up a lot of space and if they're recorded good they sound excellent and they don't wear out in my opinion CDs are superior in a lot of ways I will always buy CDs but then again to each its own

    I still use my Phillips CD880 single disc player from 1988. It works flawless as a player and digital transport and looks better than anything you can buy today for any price. I have CDs that are 35 years old that sound great. Back then, CD had to compete with vinyl and analog, it was designed under a different philosophy.

    "Anything you can download or stream these days will max out at 320 kbps." No. Qobuz, Apple Music, Tidal and Amazon Music can all stream above CD quality. But I like your spirit kid! Nothing wrong with CDs and I still have thousands of them. The "streaming is lower quality" argument is not valid though.

    Look - I'm all for collecting CDs - but saying that "anything you download" will max out at 320kbps is just false. Bandcamp, for example, lets you download hi-resolution files (where they're available, I suppose).

    • @Solitaire001
      @Solitaire001 Před 2 měsíci

      That is true if you lump all of the formats together. However, the format is a factor. If the format is MP3 then it will top out at 320kbps because that's the limit of the format. Other lossy formats have their limitations too.

  • @cdscissor
    @cdscissor Před 10 měsíci +4

    I know he's wrong with his 320kbps assessment if we take the whole truth, but in general he's still right. Most streaming is lossy, that is the default. Only the dedicated will dig out for lossless streaming or download their favourite Bandcamp releases.

    • @Solitaire001
      @Solitaire001 Před 2 měsíci +1

    I stream and I play CDs and LPs. But streaming a good master from a good source like Qobuz is definitely better SQ than CD. But SQ is not all of the experience so yeah... CD's are better than most think but it''s not bcs of the SQ but the tactile experience.

    While the CD is great, your understanding of streaming technologies and codecs (plural, because there are multiple ones with radically different characteristics) is sorely lacking: a CD is not “9 times clearer” than 160kbps compressed audio, because that’s not how lossy audio encoding works.

      @@janath9118 Indeed but, older ones that are in good condition are hard to find cheap but DVD and BR players of all kind are abundant and cheap. I used one in my office until I ran across a good used CD player in great condition at a thrift that, had a remote! I am playing it right now. But, eventually, everything wears out.
