I'll never forget when she played at the Calgary folk festival about 15 years ago. Steve Earle played with her. It was the closes thing to a religious experience that I have had..
yes ... what can you do but quote the lyrics of this amazing song? absolute SADNESS ... I have been there and thank Lucinda for putting my own despair into words ...
I grew up with my dad listening to this while sitting at the kitchen table drinking beer all night. He passed away suddenly last week and I find myself doing the same thing. I miss and love you so much dad
Very well written folk song n my Favorite tune from many years ago, since it Never gets old. Ty Lucinda since this is Heavenly to me n you're still Beautiful to this very day my Lady !! - 🎶🎵💙🎶💙🎵🎧🎵💙🎶💙🎵🎶 -
I don't wanna talk I just wanna go back to blue Feeds me when I'm hungry quenches my thirst Loves me when I'm lonely thinks of me first Blue is the color of night When the red sun Disappears from the sky Raven feathers shiny and black A touch of blue glistening down her back We don't talk about heaven, we don't talk about hell We come to depend on one another so damn well So go to confession whatever gets you through You can count your blessings I'll just count on blue
Sorry for delayed reply (didn't get notifications for comments before) If you want to listen to more I recommend Out of touch from the same album. Thank you for listening!
This song by itself is clear proof that Time Magazine's naming Lucinda Williams best songwriter in 2002 was well-deserved. It is also one of those relatively rare instances (like Astrud Gilberto's "Girl From Ipanema" & Devil Doll's "Bourbon In Your Eyes") where the voice perfectly matches the song, creating a synergism where the sum is greater than the parts.
That's funny because I live in Santa Fe NM, and she comes in concert here quite a lot for being a smaller town. But I still hadn't heard of her until a friend of mine from out of town introduced me to her music. She is an incredible musician.
lucinda is sort of like the female counterpart to say...steve earle. She is just wicked, and has been for many years,a staple in my musical diet. This song is special. Her voice cracks, and you can hear the real heartache in it. God bless her,and those who love her.
Go find a jukebox And see what a quarter will do I don't want to talk I just want to go back to blue Feeds me when I'm hungry And quenches my thirst Loves me when I'm lonely And thinks of me first Blue is the color of night When the red sound disappears from the sky Raven feathers shiny and black A touch of blue glistening down her back We don't talk about heaven And we don't talk about hell We've come to depend on One another so damn well So go to confession Whatever gets you through You can count your blessings I'll just count on blue
@blaqkroseimmortal SInce it's just her and her guitar it is most likely her demo for the label. She writes at her kitchen table. There's a whole disc of all the demos in Deluxe Edition of Blessed and the vinyl comes with CD and Demos Disc.
blaqkroseimmortal, this doesn't sound like the original cut. It sounds better, and I love the original, but this one... the emotion feels raw, her voice sounds like something beyond what could otherwise be called merely extraordinary. Thank you. Thank you so much for posting this.
@jadestephens76 -Far out man,I have bought this one 5 times because I keep getting drunk and then crying and then guess what? Lose it man,get it? Have had to buy 3 Car wheels on a gravel road! Insane or what? Beautiful voice, just great!
:$ Thank you so much!! None of my friends know who she is so it's geat to find other people who know her. I should be uploading another of her songs soon. You comment made me well up with happiness XD Thanks again!! XxXx.
Where is this version from its not the same as the one on Essence and its got some very pretty guitar work? Is Essence the best CD ever made? Just maybe.
Hi. Can you be more specific where you found this version? The guitars sound different from the original recording. Sounds like some studio version with Doug Pettibone on the tour in 2006. It's a beautifull song and thanks for uploading it. lwj
Hello; I'm your mums' friend, gazork123. Pretty song, nice job on the video. If I tried to put together something like this, I'd probably burn the house down.....hahaha!

An all time favorite! How could I forget this song. Lucinda Williams you are so beautiful.
Agreed, this song is one of my favourites too :)
those breaks and trembles in her voice indicate someone who has been through the mill. Many times.
Lucinda has always had one of the best vibratos I’ve ever heard. Add the rasp/sweetness and she can break your heart
@@chipsterb4946 Yes she is perfectly unique, lucky for us.
I'll never forget when she played at the Calgary folk festival about 15 years ago. Steve Earle played with her. It was the closes thing to a religious experience that I have had..
A great song...
A great song writer...
A great musician...
Love you, Lucinda!
She is so wonderful
yes ... what can you do but quote the lyrics of this amazing song? absolute SADNESS ... I have been there and thank Lucinda for putting my own despair into words ...
The power of song on our emotions is an amazing gift, both for the musician and the listener.
I grew up with my dad listening to this while sitting at the kitchen table drinking beer all night. He passed away suddenly last week and I find myself doing the same thing. I miss and love you so much dad
I'm so sorry to hear that
the best female singer songwriter ever
No kidding!! How am I this old before discovering this legend?!?
This song makes me want to cry a little, but mostly it makes me want to Feel! Makes me hungry to try again. ...
Me too :D
Karen Harris
These pictures are breathtaking. Can you imagine our lives without ALL of the beautiful things God has provided/created for us. (Sigh) I can't.
Nothing stops me in my tracks like Ms Williams...
Im so unbelievably tied to this song, tears into the very fabric of my soul.
You and me and so many others. Love: very fabric of my soul. Such poetry.
Very well written folk song n my Favorite tune from many years ago, since it Never gets old.

Beautiful voice on this one! Love all her stuff! Amazing how many people have never heard of her? I remedy that real quick!
I don't wanna talk I just wanna go back to blue
Feeds me when I'm hungry
quenches my thirst
Loves me when I'm lonely
thinks of me first
Blue is the color of night
When the red sun
Disappears from the sky
Raven feathers shiny and black
A touch of blue glistening down her back
We don't talk about heaven, we don't talk about hell
We come to depend on one another so damn well
So go to confession whatever gets you through
You can count your blessings I'll just count on blue
such a deep exploration on how difficult it is to relinquish our sadness
A hauntingly vulnerable vocal by Lucinda. If this don't move you, nothing else will.
You can count your blessings, I'll just count on blue! She is incredibly talented! She makes you feel her songs!
Totally agree
BLUE... my favorite color!!!!!! My son's eyes were blue... I often feel blue. This song is on my top ten
K....that made me cry.....she is so talented!
Sorry for delayed reply (didn't get notifications for comments before) If you want to listen to more I recommend Out of touch from the same album. Thank you for listening!
This one of 10 Great Songs to Listen to When You're Stressed...and who has not been stressed a few, okay a lot of times?
Lucinda is so under-rated.
Massive tallent.
She's not underrated...She's a boss of Americana.
So true. I love her music
This song brings great memories!!!!
This song is stunning.
Wonderful song. Wonderful video. Appreciate the time you have taken. One of my favourite songwriters and singers.
Passion is passion, no matter its source.
We all love you, Lucinda, for that journey you've shared with us.
Cheers from Minnesota, Jon
love this song.
One of the best songs x
My favorite Lucinda Williams song - thank you for posting it.
Congratulations you have achieved what I never have - picking a favorite. How did you do it?

The scratchy sounding undercurrent reminiscent of olden days LPs is very soothing and bloooooooo indeed.
love this song....love the album Essence.
Hi I now have the CD.. This was a live-in studio recording from KGSR Radio Austin, TX March 15,2001. It was a special promo CD. Beautiful version.
I love playing Lucinda when I'm driving in my truck alone.
