This is a full representation of MTH. Intentionally weird, heavy and soft at the same time and 100% badass.

Good choice to present this (imo most iconic) song to (the very likeable !!) Phillip as an introduction to MTH.
The title of the song means in free translation "revenge and forgiveness". The guitarist, the younger brother of the drummer and band founder Nao, was bullied by his class mates in middle school for being fat and obsessed with mangas and comics. He is full of negative phantasies of revenge until he understands that these thoughts about the bad past prevent him from having new positive thoughts about the present. So he decides to forgive his former tormentors and concentrate on a brighter present and future.
The visuals tell this story: The video was shot in a former school building. In the beginning it shows his bad memories ("anger", "f*ck you") and shortly a pic of him as overweight school student. In the next scene the band stands in front of a manga book. The part with the brain ("fight") repeats how deeply he was hurt by his bullies. In the fourth scene he walks with his band friends through the school hallway towards a better future. This is repeated by the designed part where he lies on the grass and a flower grows out of his back. He left his memories and made room for new and better impressions.
The intro and extro make clear that his sister Nao is telling his story.

His name is Ryo :) [Other band members are singer Daisuke Tsuda and bassist Futoshi Uehara. Nao and Daisuke founded the band together, Ryo and Futoshi joined in 2001]

@@bernardoesperanto3194 Because those songs (alongside Koi No Mega Lover and later the album Buikikaesu) were their breakthrough. Musically that style is still the basis for what they're doing today, it has just become more sophisticated. Those songs were, also thanks the inclusion in the death note anime, for a time synonymous with the band. They're classics.

@@Killerbee_McTitties -- Okay, these are serious arguments based on the criteria "regarding only the music" and "band history" and you are right about that. Naming Yoshu Fukushu "iconic" my criteria were the music, the visuals, the message. Imo there is no need to discuss about the "right" criteria. I just wanted to express that I would introduce someone into MTH via Yoshu Fukushu as well. Thank you and have a good day.

Although MTH has only a relative small repertoire, it influenced and inspired several other Jap. metal bands and musicians. Nemophila's drummer Tamu confessed that it was Nao's ideal as a female drummer that encouraged her to become a drummer herself. Hanabie started as a school cover band of MTH. There may be more examples I'm not aware of. Anyhow, whether you like MTH's music or not - it is an important band for nowadays Jap. metal music.
Btw. "Maximum The Hormone" is a mistranslation. The idea was to express "Maximum The Entrails" (which you can eat as a dish).

Both Akane and Tamu were inspired by Nao. They are both signed artists for Tama drums and generally considered amongst the world’s best. Incredibly to me at least; Wakazaemon (bass player for Marty Friedman, Koiai, worked with Tamu and Daisuke, and currently East of Eden (multiple bands)) was apparently in the MTH spin off. You might have seen the, “audition” videos from Tamu this band. So much talent in Japan.

Small correction with the name: The Katakana version and spoken name entails an equivocation/play on words with the Japanese horumon [a kind of yakiniku/barbeque which uses offal - often seen as waste products and thrown away in many countries] and the English hormon , but the band actually used romaji prior to 2001. This makes it likely that the band not only knew but intended the double meaning form the beginning. It's not a mistranslation.
If asked about the meaning of the name the usual answer is that you can read it as you wish.
