  • White cloud minnows are my favorite fish and I decided that I was going to breed them. They are super easy to breed and a lot of fun to watch!

    Mate, amazing video. I searched up how to breed white cloud minnows and your's popped up as the first one to catch my interest... thanks for sharing, mate. I am so excited to start breeding my minnows; feeding them frozen brine shrimp, moving them to my 5 gallon tank with big pebbles on the bottom. You are amazing and I learnt a lot from this video. Thanks for sharing, and have a brilliant week, Barry! 😀👍

      One thing I’ve done for breeding white clouds, leopard and zebra danio’s is have about a 1/2-3/4 inch layer of marbles on the bottom as the substrate and had a decent chunk of java moss and some ambulia or hornwort (any plant that grows as fast as those or as dense would probably work just as well) and yeah went from about 10-12 to well over 200-300 in a few months which worked out well ended up putting them into my pond for mozzie control 👌🏼🤙🏼

    Hey! I woke up yesterday to 2 fry in my tank. I hadn’t even noticed any eggs and wasn’t expecting it because I’ve had my wcmm for two years now and they’ve never bred. I’m trying to figure out whether there are more eggs so I can be prepared to separate them from the adults (got a mesh nursery) but I have no idea what their eggs look like and with snails in the mix it’s hard to figure out if I’m looking at eggs or poop. Do you know what the look like? I can’t find any actual images on google

    I feel like breeding white clouds and get a big big school going, but every video I see they behave differently....do you feel they directionally school more, or they just hang out together like guppies? maybe is something to do with number or water flow

      @BarrysAquarium  Před 3 lety

      In my experience only juvenile white cloud minnows school. Once they are full grown they do act similar to guppies in which they don’t really school. It might have to with water flow but I am unsure. Hope this helps!

    what is the ideal temperature for breeding them, mine is currently unheated with a low temperature of 7-10 Celsius degree, I place all 8 of them in a plastic box(20 litre) and got a sponge filter operated. do u know what‘s the size for maturing age, when I bough mine they were about 1cm and now they were slightly bigger but Im not sure when they will breed and what to do?
    plz help

    • @BarrysAquarium
      @BarrysAquarium  Před 3 lety

      You might try adding a heater. I found that the minnows breed at around 15-22 degrees Celsius. The biggest thing that helped me was using small pebbles at the bottom of the tank so the adults couldn’t eat the eggs. The minnows are usually mature after six months. If the horizontal stripe on their body is tan colored and not neon green/blue then they are ready to breed. Also white cloud minnows are really weird. The fish that I bred only bred once, I tried to do it again but nothing happened. The offspring from those fish however have been breeding none stop and I haven’t done anything special for them.

    • @George-ow9nl
      @George-ow9nl Před 3 lety

      @@BarrysAquarium thanks I just added the heater, but when I fitted the heater I realise, there's only 6 of them, two must died and got eaten by the loaches cuz they can't tolerate extreme temperature, here in London, temperature drop below 1 degree.
