His photographic memory combined with his ingenious improvisation ability made everything he did seem the more real and the more natural. He truly had GREAT talent, and even greater resilience to failure, let downs, and set backs.
He plowed through the past pain, the present difficulties, and the future obstacles. Jackie Gleason was a triumphant overcomer; of course his cigarette and booze dependency was both helpful (to him), and at times very destructive.
As irresponsible as that may seem, he took responsibility for everything; both good and bad.
He might not have been a great role model, but he sure was the GREATEST Entertainer that you could ever wish for.
    R.I.P. Mr. Gleason
    Jackie my boy, Jack. ✝🙏

My grandparents and mother lived down the street Chauncy St. from Jackie. It was mostly an Irish neighborhood and my family is Irish Brennan. I have enjoyed watching Jackie in all his shows and still do. He is deeply missed, God rest his soul.

Gleason's favorite work, was "Gigot" from 1962. He doesn't make a sound or utter a single word in the entire film. To me, it's one of the greatest performances by any actor, ever. He, and the movie, were ignored by Hollywood, as he generally was. A stupid slight of a great talent. A crime, in a way. If you haven't seen it, and you love Jackie Gleason, you really should see it.

I have many heroes in life from the worlds of music , art , sport ,film etc . But the king of them all by a country mile is 'The Great One ' ... Mr Jackie Gleason ! To achieve all of his brilliant successes so easily without rehearsal in most cases , is in my book extra ,extra super special ! A true American hero who if there was an Oscar given out for facial acting reactions Jackie would have had a living room full of them . The man was majestic in all of his work projects . Put it on Norton ..... let's go !

I have vague memories of my dad watching The Jackie Gleason Show but I have sharper memories of watching the Honey Mooners. Dad loved that show bc it was about the average working man himself my dad was a factory worker for 25 years when there were factories here in the States. He also appreciated the slapstick humor. I do remember the June Taylor
    Dancers & their dance routines.
I never knew JG had an orchestra & recordings.
    He had a huge talent.
RIP 💔 to all the deceased cast members & a thank you to
Jackie for making my dad laugh alittle!!!!!! 😊 ty.

I've watched all the old black and white comedies... most of them don't stand up well to time and just aren't all that funny. However I think most of the Honeymooner shows are just as hilarious today as they were then. Gleason's comedic charm obviously had a lot to do with it, but it also had a lot to do with the fantastic writing. They were way ahead of their time.

      Believe me, it's possible.
He may not have finished them all, but he always played and worked with a cancer stick in his fingers and lips 🚬
