  • A very rare Kiam song from 1984. No associated LP album as far as I can tell. I have read that Kiam broke up before 1980, so maybe this was a one-off reunion release? I'd love to know more. I was amazed when I tracked down this 45.
It's a great song and the classic Kiam ensemble vocals are there, but the production is typically 80's soukous, chorus on the guitar and prominent hi-hats in the mix.

Classic vocals of vintage Kiam of Muzola Ngunga, Bakolo Keta, Eddie Mboyo and Botuli Ilonge. Sweet memories

Great song. You could also look for Ya Mbuta recorded by Kim Kim Band. This is perhaps the last single they played as the original group in 1979

Most of the singers are still alive, perhaps all of them in fact. I've been in contact with a writer who is working on a history of the band, and he has been able to contact and interview most of the past members.

i think it is a Nairobi reissue, which would explain the later date. They issued three albums in Nairobi

Excellent research you did! I thought I was the only one moved by Kiam! I was just as curious about the band but there was no information. To add insult to injury, I did not speak any French!

You'll love this then: afropop.org/articles/congos-overlooked-orchestre-kiam-the-story-of-an-oral-history it's a very detailed history of the band, compiled and written by the kind of polyglot who could really do it justice. I'm proud to have contributed some information to the effort.
